This is the official discussion thread for 2x02 - Lizards (Spoilers Within!) Before the show starts, you are welcome to post your theories and ideas. Please use the spoiler tag where appropriate when discussing future episode content ----- Definitely an interesting episode. Who wasn't glad to see The Haitian and HRG reunited? That was a great scene. Morally grey indeed. Claire can regenerate lost limbs, not bad. Figures since she can totally regrow skin and broken bone fragments. Of course cutting off an entire toe was probably a more than needed painful way to test that theory. Peter is still badass, I like that. Totally doesn't know who he is, where he is or what he is, but he still can kick some ass. Nice. Hiro is Hiro ;p "The Battle of the Twelve Swords sounds like a nice title!" rofl. Totally saw Kenzo being immortal. I'd totally geek out if he changes physical appearance when he regenerates ala Doctor Who ;p Hiro's father is indeed dead Sad We miss you Sulu. What the frak was attacking Ms. Pettreilli? It was invisible, as seen from the point of view when the camera pans back as Matt is getting ready to break down the glass. Though it was totally cool how she caught onto his power so fast. Nice. Maya and Alejandro Wonder Twins yet only way more creepy... Overall good episode. Next week we get back to Niki/Jessica, and Sylar baby, SYLAR!

Thought it was great. The little mini-fleet of Puddlejumpers was just awesome. Though I can't say I like the storyline taking a twist with Weir having Replicator nanites in herself now. Cause we all know at some point that will play a huge important role in a future episode. Samantha is still lookin hot, nice to see Tapping return for more Stargate. I just hope they finally put her and McKay together, they are the perfect science fiction couple imho.

We're basically calling it at this point. There's all of maybe 7 of us left from Niteshdw still in the tribe, the rest are just noobs/random people we recruited. No one from Niteshdw seems to want to stay or stick with us any more, they'd rather go to different bigger tribes so what's the point. Loyalty doesn't seem like a high priority on some peoples list. This spoke volumes about some of our fellow...forum members.

SPOILERS AHEAD Great episode. Kudos to Nissan for giving us limited commercial breaks. A lot of questions answered in this, more brought up, a lot of information confirmed. Claire's friend from her new high school, yea he flies. That's Nathan's son, her brother slash half brother. Interesting twist. Love how Nathan is the one that survived first and foremost. We knew Peter would be back but for non Internet fans, it kinda left that door open. "Damn, what if Peter did die and Nathan survived somehow?". Pretty cool. Their mother is still a mega bitch. Really enjoy Nathan's character. Why did Matt's wife leave him? Especially since she was pregnant? I guess we're to assume the child was the product of her affair with his cop buddy? Nice to see they didn't write him off. I don't get why Molly would be pissed about him using his power for fighting crime, she does the same thing in a basic sense. Hiro in Japan. Self fullfilling prophecy. We knew "Sark" was Kenso. But if he wasn't a hero and just did stuff for money, then no heroic stories would ever be written about him. We also know Hiro gets a new "love interest" this season. My money? The swordsmith's daughter, the one Kenso married in the stories. Think about it, Hiro goes back in time, learns his hero ain't all that, does the good deeds himself, falls in love with the most likely candidate we know he'll end up with and finally grows up as a child to hear stories about "himself". Very nice twist. Who the frak was the guy that came after Sulu? Some secret member of the Company? Just some random guy in a hooded sweat shirt? Big tease, hope it pans out to something good. What the hell is Maya and Alejandro's powers? We know both of them have powers. But what? She makes people bleed from the eyes? ;\ Gotta love the guy with the King Midas power. "We have our own Fort Knox" rofl It is looking great. Can't wait. Previews for this season, that aired after the show, Sylar is indeed alive (and not just the actor signed on for the season in dreams or flash backs).

For several series of Star Trek, ranging from TNG and beyond, one of the "scientific facts" of the future is basically any planet that has lifeforms, those lifeforms are almost always a single dominate species. Meaning that over time, only one major species achieved sentience and evolved into a higher life form. Example; Earth has Homosapiens, Andoria has Andorians, etc (note, this does not count when two species inter mate to create hybrids) Now, I bring this up cause it's more relevant in Enterprise. Not just the Xindi themselves, but earlier in the show, I believe a Season 1 episode? *goes to Memory-Alpha* "Dear Doctor". Two separate species evolve on a single planet. Doctorbabble, they share certain genetic similarities but still two distinct species. Anyways, they make an interesting note how, this is considered "rare", which it is at least based on how many other planets the 6 series have visited over the last 40 years. Not unheard of but not common in the least. Fast forward to Season 2's finale/Season 3, the Xindi have not 1, not 2 but 6 species from one single homeworld (one of which being extinct, the Avians). How the hell is this possible? Not scientifically, since anything in Trek can be answered with easily technobabble but considering how in ENT, TNG and even DS9, multiple species evolving on one planet is almost considered "rare" yet 6 happen along the way, in ENT? So I wonder if it was just a simple continuity error (which yes, we know Trek is full of those) that they later realized but couldn't go back and change. Or, was it a plot device? A good one since it introduced 5 species with a similar goal, from the same planet, wanting their race(s) to survive, but of course each one is vastly unique. Some quick to anger, some quick to listen to reason and logic. Others indifferent, others open minded, etc So, continuity error? Plausible scenario within the Trek universe and it's ever expanding bending-of-the-rules or a simple plot device?

Yes the last episode is indeed crap. I won't spoil it but I doubt you'll like what happens to some of the characters.

Cause many times they've been around alien species when they are away from Enterprise or out of contact with it. A good example is Enterprise 3x7 "The Enemy". Geordi gets stuck on a planet plagued with all kinds of electromagnetic and radiation storms, with a Romulan. They certainly can't beam him out without first locating him and setting up the complex Beam Enhancers. They can't even contact him through all the interference in the storm. He was completely cut off from the ship. Yet once he met up with the Romulan, he could understand him. His UT in the Comm Badge still worked. Now back in the day, say TOS, I'd agree most of it probably was tied into the ships main computer or relayed through a communications officer. However by TNG, I'm sure technology was to a point they could micro-size a UT and place it in a Comm Badge. Don't forget these are the same people that went from panels & switches in TOS to touch screen based LCARS in TNG. If you closely look at TNG and beyond, there are many instances where the characters (usually wearing Federation Comm Badges) interact with other aliens (non-Feds) while away from ships and other things. Hell the one episode in DS9 springs to mind, where Julian, Garak and Martok are stuck in the Dominion Prison. The Jem'Hadar there just happen to speak English? Or Enabran Tain spoke English? (Garak might, having lived among humans for so long). I just wonder if it's a plot device or continuity error.

This has bugged me since TNG. Like most Trekkies, I've seen all of TNG, DS9, Voyager, Enterprise and even my share of TOS (which I never cared for really). Point being, in almost all those series, why do Universal Translators only work when they are "needed"? Case in point, in TNG the UT is built into Starfleet Comm Badges. Yet there are numerous instances where an alien, say a Klingon, is clearly around a Starfleet officer who has a UT, and one moment they are translating it into English (which IIRC is the official language of Starfleet?) yet in another instance literally within the same scene, the Klingon will speak Klingonese. Now, if it was just like, instances with Klingon I'd understand, as there are in both canon and non-canon ways, words in English that don't translate into Klingon. But then again there are. A good example is Qapla' which literally translates into "success" in English. Many characters say this, including Picard on one or two occasions. Obviously this goes beyond Klingons. It's happened around Bajorans, Cardassians, etc So my question is, why? Is it a simple writers device to help get across a point? Like back to the Klingon example, when Picard has said it, the overall tone of the scene and such is usually him showing respect for Worf's culture, as best a human could try to at least. Is that just a writers way of showing that? Or does the UT have some way of figuring out when a spoken word is meant to be translated or not? I ask the latter question cause that does bring up inconsistencies. By the time such events in TNG, and later DS9 take place, the average Trek fan who's kept up with either probably knows the meaning behind a few Klingonese words. Qapla', petaQ', etc So if Picard, for example's sake, spoke the word itself, Qapla' and not "success" would the UT recognize the user's voice and realize he himself is speaking that word, meaning it to be said that way and not to be translated? Or does it differ? Cause many times Klingons, when rather angry, stop translating into English and utter a sentence or word in Klingonese rather than the UT appearing to translate. Like it's selectively being done either by the technology, or a simple plot device. It made sense back in TOS or even Enterprise where the UT's weren't as complex as the 24th century counter parts, obviously some words would be untranslatable or just not learned by the system yet. But by say, Voyagers era, which didn't end not too long after Nemesis (which was the last canon appearance of the 24th century era as we know), they still had this issue, whether plot device or technobabble reasoning.

Technically there is. If you have purchased the Premium Account options, you can basically set a village/tribe on the Map to be labeled with a color. Like non-Tribe or Allies are all Red by default right, then when you look at zoomed in map you have dots on the upper left hand side right? Those change color based on Ally/NAP etc With a Premium Account, you can change those dots to basically any color. I used my free week with Premium when I hit 500 points to mark a few villages, it's a handy feature. Too bad you only get it with the Premium Account.

So, let me ask you this. It was ok for Q to in his own means and ways, help the human race through all his power and manipulation but the Prophets couldn't? I'll grant you the fact that Sisko's "mother" being a Prophet was a little stretched but it the first time they really helped, it was a must-do situation. Either they stepped in and stopped the Dominion Fleet in the Wormhole or the entire Quadrant would have been overran long before the end of the war at the finale of Season 7. You are right in that they (the Dominion) were more about numbers, strategy and fighting than superior technology. But that was the breaking point for the Prophets to step in. IIRC, when the Dominion Fleet in the Wormhole was destroyed, the only Federation ships near DS9 or the wormhole at the time was just the Defiant. If you can't really get behind a super technology race like the Borg, how could you justify a race that basically "zergs" their way to victory? The Defiant stood no chance against that entire fleet, even if they could somehow collapse the wormhole (assuming Sisko would think of that, at that point). The ground work for the Dominion War arc is there from Episode 1; Odo is a Shapeshifter, he knows nothing of where he came from or why (which we later learn why). The Cardassians, a proud race, withdraw from Bajor, humiliated in defeat by a band of small time rebels. This later leads them into favoring the stronger ally in their eyes; The Dominion. Or at least, it does in Dukat's eyes cause while even others such as Damar might allow peace with the Federation and Bajor, Dukat could never let that happen even if it meant selling every Cardassian life to The Dominion. So from the pilot of the series, the basic foundation of the story is set. Every episode isn't a storyline to further the plot of this 7 year arc, I'll grant you but you can't begrudge the show for having standalone episodes? Hell Babylon 5 had standalone episodes and it's entire premise was a 5 year story, even if the first season was very very slow paced. I still believe DS9 to be the superior of the series. Simply cause exploration is just, not old but done before. While that is the ultimate goal of humanity in the 24th century, what's left to explore past the Gamma Quadrant and parts of the Beta Quadrant? Voyager covered a good part of the Delta Quadrant. We've covered a handful of the Gamma Quadrant. IIRC, Half the Federation is actually located in the Beta quadrant so there's not a lot left to explore unless there's just a ton of planets that are chartered but never explored individually. You can tell by Voyager's era, there were only so many random encounters with space anomalies or new species that could be done before the formula was old and tired.

If no one minds, I posted an article for the Niteshire tribe on the new tribalwars.net official wiki; http://wiki.tribalwars.net/wiki/Niteshire I tried to make it as accurate as I could find. If there are any mistakes I'll gladly change them or you can register for free on the wiki and edit yourself. Wish we had a cool logo and such for the tribe, so we could have a sweet looking article. If you look at some of the other tribe wiki pages, of even new tribes such as ours, they are all pimped out with logos, banners etc ;p

BSG's theme from season 2 and on is great. It's like an opera style singing, I dunno, call me cheesy but it sounds beautiful.

The same thing didn't happen with TNG? From seasons 1 through 7, each season had it's episode or two where some alien/program/computer virus took over the ship or vastly endangered it. DS9 was a new take on Trek. After TNG, the exploration idea was infact getting stale. How many more series could they do about a Starfleet ship exploring space always running into random anomalies and stuff? DS9 had this too but on a far less degree. The fact DS9 introduced the first stable wormhole in known existence was cool. DS9 also was a nice splash of cold water. The one thing, and probably only thing, I didn't like about TNG, it was too perfect. Aside from random encounters with the Borg or Q, there were never any threats of war or long term huge scale violence. Not that the viewers wanted it, but the occasional skirmish with Captain Tomalok and other Romulans was about the total extent of any kind of feud. DS9 took the ball and ran with it. Federation life is paradise basically. We are free to grow and expand our lives. Explore new worlds, seek knowledge and wisdom. Most Federation planets have eliminated war, poverty, bigotry (especially Earth). You think every species in the universe wants that same outlook on life? Of course there were bound to be a few that didn't. The Borg were one but the writers had to use them sparingly since they were so powerful. The Dominion War was perfect. It had a "villain" that could be especially overbearing, powerful and yet still potentially beatable. DS9 was like the perfect Season 4 of Enterprise. It was a 7 year story arc, with appropriate stand alone stories in just the right places. DS9 was basically the misfit races show. Trills, Bajorans, Cardassians. All these cool races, that originated on TNG but were never given storylines to really develop, suddenly had 7 years to grow, including impressive backstories (The Occupation, Dax's livespan, etc). Sure Klingons rock, I love them but it was nice to have a series that didn't have a Vulcan in it, or a Betazoid. I'll give you the fact a good part of the stand alone stories took place on the station, they also explored quite a bit. I mean they were the only Federation outpost even remotely close to the Gamma Quadrant. They explored that quadrant quite well, especially after the Dominion made themselves known.

Trekkies and Trekkies 2 are very interesting. Trekkies takes a look at American based fans. Some average, some the more, eccentric type (the ones who wear their costumes all the time, the one cross-dressing cosplay guy, etc). It's interesting to see how Trek permutated various people from rich to poor. There are quite a few cast interviews from various actors of the different series. Deforest, Doohan, Mulgrew, etc Some of their stories are great. Especially Doohan's about the depressed girl he kept meeting at conventions over the years who after getting a chance to meet him and such got her life back together and got a degree in Electrical Engineering ;) Some people look down on this one cause it kinda paints some trek fans in a bad, bad light. Trekkies 2 is superior imho. It takes a more broad look at the fans, world wide. You get to meet the guy in the UK who turned his entire apartment into a room from the Enterprise (TNG era and beyond) complete with flashing sound making LCARS panels, etc. You also revisit some of the fans they interviewed in the first one, most importantly Gabriel Koerner. He's a huge trek fan, grew up watching it. His love for it and science fiction lead him to a career in computer digital effects. He's done work on Battlestar Galactica, Superman Returns etc Stuff like that is why I think the sequel documentary is better, it highlights some of the more positive effects Trek has had. Past that I don't really know many others.

Do we need Shatner? Do we want Shatner? As a less than average TOS fan, I was glad to see Kirk's character "hand off" the franchise to Picard in Generations. Why should they go back and redo Kirk and Spock? Spock I could see, but bringing back Kirk even in a prequel style story line just kinda undermines the work that went into Generations (good plot bad plot aside). Honestly I think they should have done another TNG movie, or a Voyager movie. Imagine a continuation of Voyager, the Borg open up another conduit to the Sol system, but some cool mega race from Voyager is convinced to help, say the Voth or the Krenim.

I'm the black sheep of the family when it comes to science fiction, especially Star Trek. No one in my family likes it. Being from a southern state in America, my family tends to like the more rural based television. NASCAR races, reruns of Walker Texas Ranger, etc None of them like Trek in any shape or form, or science fiction in general. Though, the mini series "Taken" that was on NBC/Scifi a few years back was well liked by my mother. She never likes such science fiction, but she enjoyed both the mini series aspect (a complete story wrapped up in a short time, in this case I believe it was 2 weeks) and how the story evolved over several generations of a family (the story is about alien visitation on Earth, dating back to Roswell to current times). Past that, yea none of them like science fiction. I've tried to get them onto more "tamer" stuff like Lost etc but even that they don't follow. They just stick to more local ethnic stuff. Being in the bible belt of the south, for Baptists, it's almost a requirement for them to watch stuff like Seventh Heaven or Touched By An Angel. While I'm sure both were good shows in their own right within their own genre, it's just stuff so far from the science fiction genre ya know? Myself, I can't live without science fiction, especially Trek. While I have said Heroes is the new up and comer that's probably the successor to Trek as my favorite show, Trek is where it started. I was born in 81', when I was around 10 or 11 I started watching TNG which was in it's fourth or so season by the time (I caught plenty of reruns). I was hooked from then on out. I grew up with just my mom from the age of 13 so Trek was an escape from life. Wasn't the popular kid in school, wasn't exceptionally smart or anything. But stuff like Trek was always there. In the 90's, you name it I saw it. Alien Nation, Trek, Buffy, X-Files, etc Some shows I did get into later in life with the dawn of the Internet (ones that I never got into cause there were no reruns in my area). I followed DS9 as I could but missed a lot of it. I watched Voyager from start to finish in the 90's/00's and Enterprise as well.
