  1. it gets no arguement from me but hey lets be honest (if ur usin the elementary school analysis) ....no-one thinks the teacher is wrong when they tell you off for bein naughty, you know your wrong. it doesnt mean you have to like it tho. i know what the law says and i accept what i did was wrong but hey, instead of complaining about what i havent got anymore, i AM appreciating what i had then and am pleased it lasted as long as it did. i sincerely hope nite hasnt taken too much crap because of what his site was providing. long live the shdw (salutes)

  9. what ...ing grreat idea! it wouldnt work on a day to day basis but if a situation developed where it was relevant i think it could work really well. there were situations in DS9 which would have work and they are invariably battles, and in voyager too. it would have to be set up carefully tho. 24 works well cos there are current evebt involved and ideas we are all familiar with. trek isnt quite the same but it think its a cracking idea. imagine a day in the life of the enterprise crew on a special mission or sumthin. wow, cool!
  10. the forum has been a bit quiet recently and i was thinkin that if we had more GROOVY threads that it might be busier. so......... brainstorming session for good thread ideas
  11. changelings seem not to have a physiology in any way comparable with humanoids. they simply simulate whatever shape they take on. this probably includes not simulating internal organs. borg implants are used to regulate brain function and physiology. the changelings seem to have no brain which could be compared to the humanoid brain so i think that at the moment they could not be assimilated. they are essentially the perfect weapon against the borg. they cannot be held in any form for too long or they risk dying quickly so therefore making them useless to the borg. the borg would be forced to kill them. perhaps it could be speculated that there are no borg in the gamma quadrant because they got their arses kicked off the changelings. i doubt it has any basis in trek fact but it can be speculated:D
  12. i see the question as: how have we developed as a people in terms of what in our nature or character has changed. ....and i think that very little has changed in terms of our nature. some things have changed our world i.e. communication. the difference that communication has made has made people accountable for their actions, promoted honesty and tried to ensure that laws, morals and folkways are maintained. though this may be easily disproved i can safely say that if you screw up, more people will know about it than in the middle ages. this then begs the question, have we become more moralistic? to truly answer that human nature must be assessed. how the hell is anyone gonna do that??? i cant but i dont think it has changed that much By Choice. i think that now people are more accountable for their actions that our behaviour may have changed but under that lies instinct and desire and though the have changed since the middle ages, instinct and desire havent changed that much
  13. Fate: 1. a. The principle, power, or agency by which, according to certain philosophical and popular systems of belief, all events, or some events in particular, are unalterably predetermined from eternity. Often personified. (Oxford English Dictionary) does it exist or not? do you believe in it. if somebody is writing this stuff, couldnt they come up with something more interesting. i suppose a comparison with free will is necessary because it seems to be the oppsite of fate.
  14. hey everybody, i'm groping carrie fisher. bet you wish you were me:D rrrrrrrrrrgg

  17. what are your star wars names? there are various ways to find this out and i would be interested to hear others. my way: -first three letters of surname -followed by first two letters of christian name then for you SW surname -first three letters of your mothers maiden name -and the first three letters of your place of birth
  18. i think it was because riker didnt know o'brien at all. o'brien could have found thomas riker out as an imposter and therefore the best way to deal with that was to act aloof and avoid him than to try and bullshit his way thru a conversation. i remember watching that ep and bein impressed cos i thought it was a decisive way to deal with the situation. thomas riker and o'brien never even met tho. by the time that ep occurred where rikers double was found o'brien had left the enterprise. have fun
  19. firstly where is the line drawn? how far should a school go in banning expression of spirituality. i agree that no One belief system should be promoted at the expense of another. i also agree that people who come here should to some degree accept the society they are movingin to. when the british government allows people to move to the UK it does not do so on the basis that people will drop their spiritual beliefs and their rights to accept them. and on the same par, when a government allows an individual to move to their country that person is a citizen and protected by that government. schools in the main part are goverment run and so the responsability cannot be passed to someone else, it stays with the government. in this case the government and the school appear ill equipped to deal with this situation. compromises must be made or the system should change. some will think it unfair that the system will change but the government is to blame for inadequite planning. the parents are not blame free in this either. they have not ley he issue drop and have been unable to respect that (AT THE VERY LEAST) things take time to change. this should have been a consideration when moving to the UK. on the other hand, if they are citizens then the government should represent the best interests of its citizens. school uniforms exist so that pupils dress to a standard, to keep dress appropriate to the environment and these things can prevent individual children from being singled out. a compromise should be reached and the best on i can think of for the government is to have cultural dress represent school colours and as best as possible meet both parties half way and perhaps limit the extent of cultural dress. what has been missed out in this are the needs of the youngster who is at the centre of this. but thats not what the issue is. it is apparent that the government has much work to do to sufficiently represent a multicultural society.
