Richard Dean Anderson's (alter) Ego

I noticed that RDA's credit comes before the show title!

I think it's because RDA is also one of the producers of the show, or had some managerial role later on. He doesn't just make his money from acting, like lots of other stars, they take a role in the production behind the scenes once they're established.. helps them make more dough.

I read a little interview they did with the guy who plays baal. Simon something. He said they were more relaxed on the set now that RDA was gone, even though he was only there for brief shooting times.

I pulled this quote from the Homer Simpson thread since it was starting to get off track and this probably deserves its own thread with title.

I would be curious in reading that article. Is there anyway to upload/link it? I can't really understand the connection to RDA's producing and the peoples comfort on set unless he had some hiring/firing power like an executive producer.

He worked them like dogs (slave unas) when he was behind the camera I imagine. I'll try to find the article. I think it was on gateworld.net under the season 9 episodes for simons interview.

Forgot to mention, RDA I think has his own production co, that might be linked to MGM and the making of SG1.

Could be instead of RDA's desire to make "more dough" he wanted more creative control. Not everone is out for the all mighty dollar. IMHO.

I believe that several early SG1 mini-documentaries stated that RDA was *offered* a role as producer, not demanded one as part of his contract. Either way, I think you're probably right that it had more to do with the creative department than money.

RICHARD DEAN ANDERSON

Executive Producer

As the star of Stargate SG-1, Richard Dean Anderson also took on the role of one of the show's Executive Producers in its second season. Anderson and his business partner, Michael Greenburg, formed their production company, Gekko Film Corp., after working together on the highly successful series MacGyver. Gekko Film Corp. has produced such projects as the critically acclaimed series Legend, two MacGyver television films for ABC (Trail to Doomsday and The Lost Treasure of Atlantis), the CBS television movie In the Eyes of a Stranger and the CBS pilot Firehouse. Anderson starred in and executive produced all of these projects.

Gekko Film Corp. produces Stargate SG-1 along with MGM and Double Secret Productions.

Ah...I don't think anyone was disputing the fact that his production company was involved with SG1...the dispute revolved around his reasons - money or creativity.

You know he saw an opportunity and took it, the show originally aired on Showtime and I don't remember that RDA had any control until about season 3, but that's just what's floating around my mind.
