vystral
http://www.cnn.com/2006/SHOWBIZ/TV/09/06/star.trek.40/index.html This article slams the TOS revamp, saying that this show is so old that it is not relevant. Not to mention, Shatner and Nimoy's comments at a recent convention were taken way out of context. The article makes no mention of the genius of any other Trek series, except for Enterprise, which they imply killed the franchise. I'm so angry at CNN right now. Antilles
Well I just watched the clip where they were meant to be talking about the cartoon series, but you could plainly see that Nimoy just didnt give a feck and Shatner just had to keep reminding him what the original question was. They were just having a luagh about it all and ended up just taking the piss out of the interviewer. It watched more like a blooper scene than a serious interview about the shows 40th and in the end didnt get ANY info about the cartoon series. The link wasnt in the regular US CNN page, but on the edition I use here http://edition.cnn.com/
TetsuoShima
These guys are 75 years old. They aren't as young as they used to be. Of course they aren't as enthousiastic as they used to be. If anybody has a right to be tired of Trek it's TOS crew. They have been pulling that along since the sixties. That's 40 years of similar questions and performances. Okay, not continuously, but it is there allways. I can understand that. It wasn't there baby, they were just the actors... It brought them fame and wealth and now that they've had that and they are old, they don't care any longer, it's human nature. You can't blame them for that. I had a good time watching those clips though. It made me wonder: "Are these guys getting senile, or are they pulling the interviewer's legs?" It was funny. It's clear though, that Shatner gave it a lot more effort than Nimoy did. And I also know, that if it were a younger actor with less on his plate, so to say, he/she wouldn't have gotten away with such a 'lousy' interview. I wonder if they are getting payed for such things, or if they have to do it out of the goodness of their hearts. Anyway... Here is a direct link to the article RS Antilles mentioned. As for CNN slamming TOS: It is a lot easier burning something to the ground than it is to build it.

Antipodean
CNN has been pissed since FOX News slammed them in the ratings What's with that, by the way? How bloody dumb are you americans??? "Fair and balanced", my arse... blind Freddy could tell that Fox news is about as "fair and balanced" as 'Pravda' was in the old Soviet union. And yes, you bloody well do export that crap over to our cable tv networks, here in Oz. Thank you so much. Watching that Bill O'Reilly character with a hangover is one of the most painful experiences I've ever managed to inflict on my very own self. I can't imagine it would have been that much better, even if my brain hadn't been addled with the remnants of alchoholic excess.

You quoted me, but NO WHERE in my post did I say I thought FOX News was FAIR AND BALANCED. ALL I said was...well, hell...pull it out of your arse and re-read what I said. Thank you very much. Oh, and I don't take kindly to being refered to as a "dumb bloody American"...K? c4 :(

My appologies C4, it was a rant & none of it was directed at you personally... it was just about my dumbfoundedness at the success of Fox news and the way it is seemingly embraced by the US as a whole. I never meant to suggest that you were a Fox news advocate, or that you yourself believed Fox's claim of being "fair and balanced", and I never said that you were a "dumb bloody american" yourself, but my emphasis was upon your nation as a whole. Because Fox News really is crappy, lazy journalism and I really don't get why you're country would favor its biased reporting over CNN, whatever its faults. I quoted you because my stream of consciousness followed on from what you said, not because I objected to it, or you, in any way, shape or form. Anyhow, sorry again, especially for being WAYYY off topic.
eonfreon
Trust me FOX News has not been embraced by us Americans as a whole. We know it's propaganda (at least most do ) and we hate it (at least I do). But I do watch it once in awhile. After all I gotta know what kinda trouble they're trying to stir up. Since it is out there and does influence a bunch of our neighbors, I watch it to see what to expect from the right-wing crazies. Unfortunately, that means I sometimes add to their ratings, I guess. Even misinformation is information if you know that it's misinformation. For the rest- well, every country has it's unwashed masses- they're the same bored mofos who watch Springer have to have some form of news. EDIT: And sorry to be so far off topic too, but you got to understand that this stuff is crammed down our throats as much as PRAVDA was in the Soviet Union, so we're kinda tired of hearing it. And "FAIR AND BALANCED" is their trademarked slogan, not some label we gave 'em. Anyway back to the topic at hand......
eonfreon
Now I've read the article and it is completely out of context. Not relevent? Sure, I suppose influencing science fiction themes to this very day is not relevent. Should it retire from the field of battle? What an asinine way of saying it. The franchise encompasses an entire universe. Are we to believe that nothing further can be plumbed from a universe wherein brand new characters and situations can created? Good writers can and do build upon what has come before and acknowledge their influences and inspirations. Dr. Who is far older and it has managed a healthy and highly enjoyable modernization imho- and that is about a single character! Star Trek has the added bonus of being completely open-ended. Antilles
Star Trek has the added bonus of being completely open-ended. So had Futurama, with its space travel capability yet they decided to give The Simpsons (in a small town) another million seasons and drop the wonder that was Futurama. I love the Simpsons, but come on theres only so much you can do, Futurama was way cooler.
gjnave
CNN = Clinton News Network --- That was a bizarre (if not disillusioning) article. Although reading Shatners autobiography of the show was a bit as wel.. However.. i agree. QUIT MILKING it. As far as the big boys are concerned, its all about milking the fans for big bucks. Come on.. $100+ for one season of Trek? It's ridiculous. Trek will come back when you get people who love the show and want to make good tv for the sake of the Trek.
