  1. Name:  Justin

    Age:  27

    From:  Pennsylvania

Hobbies:  None...between work, college, and applying to law school I have no brain power left so it's either TV or web to relax

Tastes:  Read my posts, I'm pretty polarizing on what I like and dislike

Why I joined the forum:  I came for torrents but I stayed for the camaraderie

  2. Via TiVo (some of this stuff is on hiatus or cancelled):

    House

    30 Rock

    The Office

Aliens in America (sux that it was cancelled)

    How I Met Your Mother

The New Adventures of Old Christine

    Gossip Girl

    Big Bang Theory

    Top Chef

    Canterbury's Law

    The Shield

    Damages

    Family Guy reruns

an inordinate amount of Food Channel

any mixed martial arts programs (UFC, Pride, WEC)

Via Netflix (cuz we don't do torrentz anymore):

    Weeds

    Curb Your Enthusiasm

    Little Britain

    Wonderfalls

A Bit of Fry & Laurie

Coupling (warning: the last season was horrible)

  3. Not liking V for Vendetta? Perhaps I shan't listen to you.

Somewhat off topic, but let me list my biggest dislikes about V:

    1) Natalie Portman is a horrible actress.

    2) Dialogue and narration were worse than the 2 Matrix sequels.

    3) The premise was lame (and was as much a piece of dishonest political propaganda as any recent Michael Moore documentary).

    4) The action was really not that cool.

  4. Do you identify?  Are you a sci-fi nerd, a science nerd, or some combination thereof?

It's certainly not the worst sitcom on TV, and I find it easier to get into mediocre television now that TiVo makes it so easy to sample every new show out.

And the love interest Penny (played by Kelly Cuoco) is certainly equal to any of the spacely sprockets on Battlestar Galactica and the other current male-fantasy-indulging sci-fi programs.

  5. Just think... The Core meets Event Horizon but of course, it shan't be - officially - gracing the Americas for some months... now you know what it feels like!

Excellent description, it really did combine elements of these two movies, plus the sunburnt guy reminded me of V for Vendetta (a movie I hated intensely, by the way).

Ultimately I was disappointed.  Effective at building a creepy mood and awesome visuals, but kind of lame as science fiction.

  6. I tend to be a negative Nelly, but I've mostly enjoyed this season.  I agree with the people who have panned the acting.  However, I kind of like the overall feel and exploration of the T-Lore (kudos to whoever coined that term).

The thing I like the most is that "Skynet" is a moving target.  In one timeline, it may have been a gov't system, in another it is software, etc.  The point is that an AI which declares war on humanity is basically inevitable.  That's a nice little nightmare scenario.

  7. The new DVD "Futurama: Bender's Big Score" is pretty darn good.  Recommended to anyone who likes the series.  My only criticism is that the animation is a little crude in some places.  Otherwise, one of the best spoofs of time travel sci-fi claptrap ever.

  8. I thought Flickr was for people to post photos they took, but apparently you can post any old thing including screencaps from Star Trek TOS.  Let's celebrate Gene Rodenberry, who brought his trashy B-movie sensibilities to the small screen:

This begs the question: Of Kirk's many loves, who is your favorite?

    My fav is.....

    Dr. Polaski....bleck.

  9. I've been worried this movie would be a load of time crap for more than two years.  As promised, I will throw feces at the movie screen!

The dude's name is actually Erik Jendresen.  You'll find some credits on IMdB, probably also with author search on Amazon books.  He still seems like a nobody.

You can't trust Berman, Braga, &c. to do anything right.  Even picking a writer.  I hope they don't let Jonathan Frakes direct again.

Furthermore, I am sick of time travel on Trek.  After all the pointless eps of Voyager & Enterprise where something happens in an alternate timeline which is eventually averted thus saving "our" timeline, I will throw feces at the movie screen like a goddamn ape if I have to deal with that in the next movie.  Three sucky movies in a row is beyond the pale.

  10. Just finished series 1.  Pretty horrible.  Several eps actually put me to sleep.  The only episode I really liked was "Random Shoes."  Reminded me of "Love and Monsters" from new DoctorWho series 2.  Otherwise generally poor writing and questionable casting.

I enjoyed the cursing, however.  Some creative use of the f-word.  And if you're a fan of my posts, you know I like creative swears.

  11. I know where you're coming from.  I refuse to ever see Bicentennial Man or I, Robot cuz I'm sure I would we be disappointed.  I'm too loyal to Asimov to do that.

But I don't read SF anymore, so I'm more interested in Philip K Dick as a reservoir of ideas for sci-fi movies.  I've never read a Stephen King novel, but I tend to like the movies made from his books/stories.  (Even the Langoliers miniseries.)

So....are there any movies based on Philip Dick that you like?

  12. Just finished watching A Scanner Darkly.  Disappointing.  All premise and mood.  Is this typical of Philip K Dick?  Used to read a ton of SF but never got around to Dick.  Crap movie is fair indication that book doesn't have much to offer.

    scanner.jpg  vs.  ascannerdarkly_large.jpg

Also saw Blade Runner for the first time a couple of weeks ago (the VHS was before my time).  Enjoyed the acting and art direction, but extremely thin story.  What's the deal with Philip K Dick?  Are any of the movie adaptations any good?  What about the stories/novels?

P.S. Am I a total weirdo for thinking Sean Young was the bee's knees?

  13. On the subject of aging gracefully....Kate Mulgrew is definitely not getting nipped and tucked.

    katemulgrew.jpg

Not sure she was ever spank material to begin with.

    katemulgrew.jpg

Anyway, at this point in my life I'm not looking to be titillated by Trek.  In fact, Enterprise was that much worse for having fake-breasted, underfed Jolene Blalock as T'Pol.

If or when there is a new Trek series, I hope the producers stock the cast with quirkily attractive women instead of implants on a stick.

(7 was the only Trek babe that could really do it for me.)

  14. My apologies to the forum for posting pics of 1980s era pancake boobies.  However, we should not forget that Gene Rodenberry produced some soft-core porn when he was a B-movie director.  Nevertheless, as I was a mere seven years old when I started watching TNG, I respect that there may be kids in the forum.  Sorry bout the F-word too.

  15. My favorite sci-fi movie from the current decade seems to be wholly undiscussed on Nite's forum.  "Donnie Darko" has a lot to offer mature sci-fi fans, in case you thought it was a silly teeny bopper movie cuz Jake Gyllenhaal and Drew Barrymore are in it.

    Here's whut I liked.....

    1.  soundtrack featuring Echo & the Bunnymen, INXS, and Joy Division

    2.  mindfuck ending

    3.  Seth "you know how I know you're gay" Rogan as bully #2

    4.  jokes about the 1988 prez election

    5.  Patrick Swayze as motivational speaker w/ kiddie porn dungeon in his basement

    6.  Jena Malone before she became a weird RiotGrrrl

    7.  "Go suck a fuck!"

    8.  grandma death's philosophical treatise on time travel

Please share your likes and dislikes about this movie.

    Yours truly,

    Justin Geist aka Jonnie Jerkoff

  16. The 9/23 episode was totally lame. This is sci-fi by people without imagination. And just plain bad writing.

The premise might have been pitched like this to the network execs: It's like Ally McBeal meets Alias meets Dark Skies.

I would rather watch those three shows simultaneously than watch Threshold.

  17. Mateya, now that you mention it, the space craft from Threshold vaguely resembles the core of the Event Horizon--both devilish spinning things. Plus the creepy flashbacks.

However, it's more likely the director David Goyer borrowed some tricks from Dark City, which he wrote.

  18. Oh yeah, I cringed at the mention of Klingons and anti-matter.

I predict that a time paradox will be introduced into the storyline no later than episode 5. Would anyone like to bet? The wager is, the loser has to seed the winner's torrent of choice for a solid month or risk being kicked off the forum (pending Nite's approval).
