The DVP642 IS region-free, after a simple buttonpress hack with the remote control. I'm able to watch discs from around the world with no problem, and the PAL > NTSC conversion is fine for viewing, with no stuttering. Although a more expensive machine would do an even better job with the conversion, I really don't see the need. DVP-642 Hack.
