  1. Firefox on the mac is not so good. Use Safari. Or if you're looking for something slightly faster than Safari, try WebKit. WebKit is a rendering engine. When you run it, it'll open Safari, but switch to the WebKit rendering engine. It's a bit faster than Safari and is updated practically nightly. www.webkit.org Proxy settings for Safari are located in the Networks Preference Panel
  2. Mmmm...Standards...never heard of them. TCP/IP is available on Macs and PCs. Basically, from what i can make out, you've got something disabling multicasting. You need to enable samba drives on your Mac for your pc to be able to access the drives. On Windows you need to share the drives and the printer and ensure that Multicasts are available to be sent. Hamachi, is a VPN, doesn't really work if you're on a local network. I would suggest that the problem would be Firewall related.
  3. TFMF!!!! i just lost a load of db again[br]Posted on: May 06, 2008, 10:55:49 PM http://www.macfanboy.co.uk/?p=59
  4. Windows funnily enough will use your pagefile before it fills your RAM. That's where the speed up of ConservativeFileSwapUsage=1 in msconfig comes from.
  5. i wouldn't use an SSD on a machine that has a swap. SSDs have limited writes. If you're sticking windows or linux on their, they'll rip through the writes really quickly. with linux you can use it in "cd" mode, or whatever, which allows you to not use a swap.
  6. i'd probably downgrade the hdd to a smaller size, and then replace it with a 7200 rpm one.
  7. mmmm...it's getting a bit more confusing now. I'm still waiting for the Death Star.
  8. Handbrake is very good. Especially when using the command line version

  10. Best episode of this season yet. Definitely.
  11. Take a picture. Post it in a spoiler. 17" Powerbook G4 1.67 Ghz, 1.5 GB RAM, 80 GB Hard Drive. On the floor (1 TB + 320 GB + 160 GB Hard Drives) (running dual screen) 12" Powerbook G4 867 Mhz, 1 GB RAM, 60 GB Hard Drive. 2002 PowerMac G4 (Quicksilver) 800 Mhz, 1.25 GB RAM, 80 + 60 GB Hard Drives. Hackintosh (Medion): 2.66 GHz Celeron, 768 MB RAM, 80 GB Hard Drive. Powermac and Hackintosh share top left screen.
  12. i'm assuming you have another computer. Download a linux Live CD. i think Ubuntu has one, as does Slax. Boot into the CD, and then copy all your data onto another drive, or burn a DVD/CD. Then format and reinstall Windows.
  13. Fetch is a trial but what's good about it, is that it doesn't stop working, the only thing that changes is that after a while you have to wait a period before being able to use it. So it never stops working.
  14. you could use Notes in Mail.app or you could try to drag the widget onto the desktop. http://youtube.com/watch?v=7WMYPe7M2i4&feature=related That's a video showing how to do it and use it.
  15. maybrick, try using Fetch. http://fetchsoftworks.com/ That often works. It could be due to either the server or your connection.
