  1. Link to above MPAA article What losses are they talking about? How can they claim that everybody will for sure buy something, they can't get for free... If I couldn't get it for free, I'm pretty sure I wouldn't know about it, afford it or value it worth buying. There are a lot of other free stuff in the world I live in; TV, news, magazines, books, forums, games, a walk in the forest, hobbies, whatever. I do spend money on what I value worth buying, not because someone tells me to or assumes I will. And to state the obvious, it's the forum and the people on the forum that makes me visit this awesome corner of the internetworld, not the torrents that easily can be found with Google and on hundreds of other sites. That is cool and so is your neat tagline when the fading colors in space

Kind of a BS lineup you have there, since we can pick only one we find offensive, do you not see the flaw to that? As a result, I abstain from voting
  3. Source: rec.arts.sf.tv.babylon5.moderated archives Babylon 5 = New York City. Plus a small U.N. council with 5 dominant Aliens who lead the U.N. And a bunch of tiny ones w/ little influence. Surrounded by a million shopkeepers and other civilizans. B5 = NYC in Space. - In the Beginning Movie = The best place to start (Says JMS the creator of the show). - The Gathering aka Episode 0 = Go here next. - Season 1 = crap (my humble opinion). Skip all except "Signs and Portents" & the finale. - - Season 2 = The Coming of Shadows - Season 3 = Point of No Return - Season 4 = War Without End - Season 5 = No Surrender, No Retreat - - Seasons 2/3/4/5 = The best stuff. It's not just entertainment. It's philosophy. Like Shakespeare or Dickens. Babylon 5 is my favorite show, tied with Deep Space Nine. I guess this is where I take your word for it, since I don't really care, a friend of mine likes B5 so much he refuses to watch anything else, and he has a book about the show that quotes JMS as saying the 5th season was written after and apart fromt he first four, they weren't sure if there'd be funding for a fifth season, etc... he uses that as a point to why he doesn't like the fifth seasons, personally, I liked the fifth season, so rarely do we get a 'it's good to be king' view of things, 'oh? call the whitestar fleet in on that problem." 'oh yeah? tell the rangers I said get a move on.', etc ;-/ I didn't consider that mediocre at all, most big epics end where the struggle ends, was it hans solo and leia? whoever is always paired up at the end of those big epics, you never actually get to see them rule... in any case, there's two apparently contradictory statements by JMS, assuming both sources are correct, oh well, he's a paid fictional writer, e.g. human, even if it was his mistake, he could still be cooler than Joss Whedon.
  4. You might not know, that Sinclair has a very special role in Babylon 5, and he will disappear for quite awhile, there are some cliffhangers that arc across more than a couple seasons, the first 4 seasons are all one long epic story. also, ambassadors/diplomats often DO get ugly, even in real life, and especially if there are existing grudges (I'm assuming you were referring to some narn v/s centauri thing *shrug*)... I do believe you should give it some time before you judge it, like maybe 4 seasons worth of time... having said that, you're entitled to like or hate what you will, and to each their own.
  5. Babylon 5 is great scifi, it should not be missed by any serious scifi lover. the first four seasons were written together as one epic, the 5th season was an afterthought yet enjoyable still
  6. it's definitely transparent aluminum in trek, scotty trades the formula for transparent aluminum, for the resources to create the big whale tank in ST IV
  7. I didn't like that they made browder the head of SG1, and I'm still trying to get use to that, he's COMPLETELY NEW TO THE SHOW, sure he's a good actor, sure I like Farscape, but I still don't like the decision to make him *POOF* head of the team in his first episode They could've had him do something spectacular to EARN the position on screen, maybe even so spectacular that Carter REQUESTS he is promoted to team leader... Sure it's good that they care for their families, but the administration side of the show doesn't spend enough time when they make changes, it's all 2 dimensional and bland when a major change occurs, as meaningless as Tasha Yar's death.
  8. I'm just waiting for them to sue a single unmarried man or woman that lives alone, that turns out to BE a district/federal judge, bwahah Personally, I like music ok but I'm not crazy about it, I rarely listen to music despite owning a lot of music and a few affordable mp3 players and a surround sound system, but the amount of quality music is very thin on the average album, CDs like Pearl Jam's Ten, is a rare gem, I loved every song on it.. (Pearl Jam fought to give their music away, as I heard they took it before congress, they had 'gotten in trouble' for throwing copies of a new CD into the crowds to protest ticketmaster's inflated pricing.) and also Portishead, I intend to support the the musicians who DESERVE my rare purchase because they are talented, not only with CD sales, but with T-shirt sales, with bumper sticker sales, etc.. the RIAA have missed the big picture, they are alienating everyone..... long ago, long before napster existed, when the Metallica's black album (also called self titled album) was new, I bought it as well as a $30 metallica t-shirt, THIRTY DOLLARS FOR A PULL OVER TSHIRT, because I LIKED THEIR MUSIC... I will never buy another metallica item as long as I live, and I made that determination way back when they started whining like little punks, they have no honour, they mean to alienate their fans, they act the part of rebels but worship money as much or more than the corporations who are driving our world into the gutter. We should all EMPHATICALLY BOYCOTT any artist who condones the actions of the RIAA, if we could get artists to speak out AGAINST the RIAA and their stormtrooper goosestepping sig heil hitlerish tactics, THEN we could show the corporate buttmongers the power of the people, when we raise those artists to the very height of opulence. We should try and organize some organization so artist's websites will have a symbol of their protest, like RIAA with a circle and slash through it, saying "I AM FOR FAIR USE AND PERSONAL FREEDOM, AND I DESERVE YOUR SUPPORT." -- I really and truly think this idea could go far. It could work in other fields as well, I would buy ANY MOVIE even if it REALLY SUCKS as long as it openly protests the stormtrooper goosestepping jackbooted thug tactics of the MPAA, etc... Your thoughts?
  9. This is a common problem, healthcare workers, doctors especially, who are only in it for the money, should be executed. it extols ALL that is bad with capitalism, while there are definite pluses to capitalism, healthcare isn't one of them, I've heard the BS about research money, that's just a low excuse to overcharge people for crap care Deep down, we all know there are serious problems with the medical profession, and having doctors as financial vultures... I'd say it's one of the reasons most successful scifi shows MUST have a miracle worker doctor, who NEVER loses a patient due soley to incompetence, and usually pulls a miracle out of his/her ass to save their patient, or even an entire world. Everybody wants doctors who care again, I'd say everyone is sick and tired of the capitalist bullshit and putting a pricetag on human life. As for some of our pseudosocialist neighbors, I'd have to imagine the chief motivation for doctors there is the passion involved in SAVING LIVES, as I assume they must receive horrible pay compared to their American peers. Just think about it, every Star Trek series, both Stargate series, and countless other shows, have 'the best doctor', just the other day I heard an atlantis quote 'the best doctor in two galaxies' that's as much of a dream as a wonderful floating ancient city with unimaginable technology and a star drive, in fact, I'd rather have the doctor.
  10. so far over 70 percent of the voters have stated their approval of 'one all powerful government', ironically I bet most of them hate GWB and the Patriot Act and how America wields its sovereignty, do you guys have no grasp of how it could be much, much worse? The question says nothing of a beautiful star trek future, it's more likely to be orwellian or like equilibrium, absolute power corrupts absolutely, why do so many people ENDORSE globalism? It's truly baffling, because I'm sure those same people wouldn't want to be treated as cattle, wouldn't want to be treated as a jew in hitler's germany. I detect a lot of doubleminded folks here, and some age old literature implies we should shun the doubleminded
  11. I vote no because there's no way to keep corporations out of it, and what appears like freedom in the west is really an oligarchy controlled by megacorporations and multinational conglomerates, the richest lobbyists. Diversity is one of those things that are almost always Good, example is the Australian government legalizing mod chips for console gaming. if you were to create one government you would make it easier for the few rich assholes to lord over everyone else, as it stands they'd have to launch assaults on literally tens of thousands of state/provincal/local/federal governments -and succeed- in order for them to get that kind of control. Star Trek is FICTION people, nice fiction but FICTION nonetheless, if you really think mankind is capable of uniting in peace under one banner, I'd have to say you're delusional and aren't in touch with human nature all that well. If there was a World War III, the sudden invention of the warp drive, and a first contact scenario such as in the fictional world of Star Trek, then perhaps enough things would be different to change the mindset of humanity. but as it stands we're little more than pack animals, and if you abolish one alpha another one through deceit malice and murder would merely climb its petty little way to the top. *BITCHSLAP* Personal and individual sovereign freedom is the closest these present generations will ever get to the fictional freedom in fictional Star Trek, I hope the bitchslap woke you up some. The government is not your friend, most of your neighbors would rip you off only if they thought they could get away with it, humans are inherently greedy and on the survival level, no better than any of the most ferocious mammals. I hope the bitchslap served to wake you dreamers up... -- AND, if there ever is first contact and other paramount(teehee) changes to the way this power hungry world operates, I will gladly update my post and change my vote.
  12. I believe at least in part, some of the klingon and perhaps gorn empires are in the beta quadrant.
  13. First of all, Bush did win by a popular majority. Second of all, the forefathers, being far more intelligent than we could've ever given them credit for, did not create 'a democracy', they created a federal republic, and they create the electoral college to avoid any ad populum disasters. Baywatch is the most watched show in the world, did you know that? Seems to me like the majority are a bunch of snivelling morons interested only in tits and ass.... good thing they cannot decide who will be the next most powerful person on earth, eh? Poor Doctor Who wouldn't have a chance if we fabricated such importance in ratings, he would've died long ago, only being watched by intelligent folks. Third, it's disappointing that political bullshit talk isn't allowed on the IRC channel yet is allowed here. Last time I looked this was a friggen Star Trek fansite and a friggen Star Trek Discussion board. Fourth, You got your lying womanizing Christian European killing sunuvabitch Bill Clinton for two terms, so one word: DEAL hahaha B) B) B)
  14. Wow, daffydk your reasoning sounds perilously close to being concerned with justice, better keep that rationale in check if you plan on surviving here without a hundred sworn enemies ;-) ;) ;)
