Hi guys and girls,

Torrents are great but I am currently living in a third world country where the cost of bandwidth is prohibitive. I can however access it via work but cannot leave my lappy there unguarded or it will go awol. Is there any other way to download the programs. itunes and amazon have it all and would be happy to pay for it but it not available in the country I am in.

I came here with about half of SG Atlantis s4 downloaded I need epidsodes 11-20. Plus BSG s4 has finally started and i want to get all of that.

Have had a good look on the www but all i can find are scam sites and not keen to throw money at them.

Where I am I don't get tv at all, so my ten seasons of sg1 are getting a replay.

thanks.

yeah I can via aussie but you can't get season 4 of atlantis yet and bsg is still only about half way through the season. Some folk here ship stuff over but a lot of it goes missing, not worth the risk in my view.

After posting, my son put me onto rapidshare and also UseNeXT. Have paid for a trial on both but havent had a chance to download yet. Need to take the lappy into the ops room where they have the wireless connection. My personal office is at 25,000ft and above and moves quickly. Not as quick as a x302 or deathglider though :(

Thanks for the reply

It seems you are in a bit of a dilemma. I would suggest the first thing you do is download a small sized download manager for explorer or firefox (what ever browser you use), then start downloading the programs you need with that. If you do it that way you can pause your download and continue it quite easily later on. It would be slow, but i imagine a bit of help. For example you could download iTunes in a couple of goes, i know thats a pretty sizey app. Then when you have that you can just let iTunes do all the work for you. :cyclops:

the download managers that i have seen don't work with torrents. plus as mentioned before itunes is not avbl in png. You have to have a credit card and billing address for the countries that it is avbl in. maybe i should get a visa card on my aussie account. mo hassle, mo money!

i have several download managers one reckons it does torrents but it doesnt. torrents really are the best way if you have broadband and the bandwidth. been using them for years.

when i get a day off will pop into work and see how the rapidshare downloader does. tried UseNeXT this arvo, seems a bit gay.

It's very simple really. Whether you want to download something legally or illegally, you'll always need bandwidth. The amount of bandwidth you'll need is directly proportional to your quality needs. If the cost of bandwidth is prohibitive, neither usenet or rapidshare or iTunes or DCC or torrents or any other way to get files via the internet will be a viable option. If you still want to use any one of those, but can't afford to spend a lot of bandwidth, select small low quality files.

I suggest you either settle for whatever little you can get or find a good DVD store and wait for the shows you want to watch to become available on DVD.

If your connection is bad/expensive, then there is nothing anybody can do about that, except yourself and if you can't improve it, we certainly can't.

It seems to me you came here looking for support on torrents or how to download things. Well you came looking in the wrong place. This is a scifi forum with some small non-scifi discussions (download how-to's are no part of it).

Admiral TetsuoShima,  you seem to misunderstand me. But thats ok. no hard feelings. I am a major scifi fan and i figured others of that ilk would be helpful hence why i asked on this forum. I don't need help to download or use torrents, although if you know of a way to make a 350mb torrent download in about 15min i would love to know.

i will explain again in simple terms what it is i am trying to achieve. I need to be able to download a 350mb file be it torrent or otherwise in about 15min, not the 24hours that it would take back home on a full speed broadband connection. I figured that there are places you can do this but I don't know of any good ones. hence why i asked here. maybe there aren't.

i have access to broadband both at home and work. at work i don't have to pay for it, but i need for the download to happen quickly.

yes i could wait for the dvd to come out, but i am not a patient person. yes it's a vice, i have many.

didn't mean to offend you with my question, and thanks for the info on DCC, never heard of that, and am having look at what that is now.

My apologies if my comment was a bit harsh, but we have very bad experiences with 'the copyright police' on this forum, so most things in that direction are not a good thing on the forum.

As for you Q: you usually have very little control about download speed, once you're certain your own connection speed isn't limiting the download. Everything else depends solely on the person/company/server uploading the files. Where I'm from, it's usually the server that limits the download speed. If you can find a good usenet server, you can get very fast downloads, but availability isn't always good and it will cost you. Torrent download speed is completely in the hands of your fellow torrent users. DCC speed depends again on the speed of the server. etc..

I personally can't send you to a place where you can find the files you need for sure at a high speed. It's probably more an ongoing search if you're interested in speed, since not all servers are around for a long time. Your best/easiest bet is probably usenet on multiple connection to the server. You may be able to reach speeds of 10Mbps+ if you find a good server.

Thanks for the reply. Got sent a PM from another member which has some good info.

I used to pay the equivalent of $60 AUD for 10gb at full speed now I pay $100 for 300mb at quarter speed. Oh to be home for cheap broadband.

I understand your concerns regarding the thought police. better to stay under the radar.

ahhh, just read your re-explaination. What you should do is join a private torrent tracker. for like $5 you can join and download at rediculous speeds. The only condition is that you have to seed your downloads to maintain an upload ratio as well. Or i believe you can just keep giving them a few $$ (say $50 once every couple of months) and that will make them happy and they wont kick you. ;D

But i would like to point out, that i don't know anything about this... I'm just a passer of information. Torrentz are bad. lol

thanks for the info. yeah shame about the attitude to torrents. but if it has already shown for free on tv then why can't we download it for free (other than paying for bandwidth).

Anyway have PM'd you

thanks
