  1. X-Files seasonal box sets now only 29% of their RRP - £9.99 @ play.com
  2. May as well use this ol' thread... Play.com now have these season sets cheap @ £16.99 each (so 30% of RRP)
  3. Hmm not bad. I too am unsure where TW is going. Is it just going to be constant stream mainly of dealing with Aliens in Cardiff each week? The idea of Jack having his own agenda and keeping stuff from the others might be an idea to pursue - to jack "he IS torchwood" so how would this effect others. Not sure what the sex seen added (apart from making me realise they were face-to-face :-\ ), there is the whole "sex in the work place" that it could have pursued, maybe even looking at insecurities of one of them?? So it ended up still with jack-knows-best
  4. Same here, almost as bad as putting an episode preview in there (which I'm glad they don't), ruins the surprise - though you then think "ooo X is in it, wonder where they'll show up" and you start looking for when rather than it being a surprise. Good opener for a 2-parter
  5. Liked this ep, it was a good all-action episode. Most of the episodes are quite predictable, but this was nice just being able to watch and not bother analysing. Of course now with no midway, will they simply "replace" it or use the fact its gone in future storylines?
  6. I think "but they dont work on my divx player." is worthy of more investigation. Most divx players have a cheap decoding chip (no where in the same league as your computer's CPU) and how good they work varies. Some won't play "packed" xvid, many don't like high bitrates. Nearly all won't handle HD files (anything above 640 wide) even ones with HDMI connections! Then there's Nero MP4 files, most don't like these. Get hold of Gspot that will tell you the codec used, the resolution, whether it has packed bits, etc..
  7. Maybe people know about this, but free who DVD's by collecting vouchers http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/fun/competitions/promotions/article903055.ece So buy paper, pull out voucher, throw paper away, get free DVD. As the paper is 35p (50p sat & 70p Sun) some good episodes for peanuts
  8. quite true, in one breath you have the whole "enlightenment" concept of non-interference and the other of the warring factions. Ok, so you can say one before the other but TBH I think fitting everything into a timeline is easily forgotten if they have a plotline that they deem interesting. btw glad I'm not the only one who can't be bothered trying to find out which episode "x" happened. I've watched them all, got many on seasonal DVD (but not all), and can remember what has happened (and thats more important to me :D)
  9. Yes but as a race working towards ascension they could only do so much. Battling the wraith and developing the replicators as a weapon were stages along the path they realised they had to go.
  10. Teal'c now or teal'c sans hair? Don't forget Teal'c now is old and on tretonin
  11. I thought the season premiered on the 1st??
  12. I still haven't figured out how to activate the widget. Oh, WOE is me! Isn't there anybody here willing to explain the damned thing to me? install yahoo widgets, install the Dalek widget add on Its a pity the dalek isn't like the old e-sheep and react to the mouse
  13. why has it changed. Its okay doing comments like this, but if they then go and change it, makes a moot point.
  14. Well I listened to Mother Russia, which as an audio book is quite alright, though it is an audio book rather than an audio drama. You have Peter Purves as Stephen Taylor, narrating the story and most of the voices. The "twist" or ending was obvious (to me any way) fairly early on but a nice story and a nice addition to anyone who wants more Hartnell stories I haven't got the first season stories mentioned, but might try to.

    BFDW100 ... 100

Its strange if you listen to all the commentary tracks - you get the feeling that they wanted something "BIG" but had to settle for a mixed bag of writers who they obviously sing the praises of (and it'd be their first choice if questioned, obviously) - so classic anniversary style stories you got in 80's who :D
  16. Ah, well I posted but didn't vote !!!!!
  17. what about a dalek roaming around on your desktop?? http://widgets.yahoo.com/widgets/the-dalek
  18. Finally finished watching all of them. Signed the save journeyman petitions as could do with a 2nd season
  19. don't forget recons are one way of viewing the missing eps and they get better all the time.

cheers. Is it all big finish audios you don't get or just some specific ones and not drWho monthly ones?
  21. Woo hoo a classic anniversary style release full of self congratulation and disappointment. Having four stories loosely based on the number 100 seems to have produced some filler stories and made for a disjointed release. The idea of four single story episodes should mean that topics could be covered that wouldn't stretch to "proper" releases, and indeed the cd-extras tracks elude to this point. However I felt that the stories having nothing connecting them other than 100 mentioned somewhere was a failing and something a bit more concrete would have helped. Mind you I tend to listed to a whole release over 2 days so maybe I should have spread it out a bit more. *spoilers* This release sees Colin Baker as the doctor in all eps, they decided against multiple doctor episodes partly because of scheduling issues. The four eps are: - 100 BC A nice episode on Julius Caesar's conception/birth - well on what happens if you release you've disturbed the evening of conception so JC that sperm didn't meet the egg and what if this meant we had Julia Caesar!!! - My Own Private Wolfgang Mozart is so revered that in the future they clone him and a maltreated clone goes in the past to prevent his death so that he lives to 100 and produces a lot of mediocre scores. A nice story that the writer states he saw no way of extending it out to a four-parter without ruining it. - Bedtime Story Every time a boy is born the grandparents die, though as it turns out they just sleep for 100 years but still aware - obviously a bummer if they bury you, as has been done for generations. A good story, and a great ending - you have the usual "clever doctor outwits the foe then leaves", only to reveal the doctor's been outwitted this time and the evil continues. - The 100 Days of the Doctor The doctor is infected with a lethal intelligent virus and has a 100 days to live to try and prevent his infection. The poorest story of the four and the one that it seems many listeners on other forums moan about. The idea seems good enough, but its full of inconsistencies and jumps through the days fairly fast at many points. If you read this thread, post a little comment at least, cheers.
  22. Doctor who meets Dracula (Vlad the Impaler) 5th Doc time with Peri & Erimem. Quite a good story that takes part in different 'locations' at first they are in the Turks camp and then in Vlad's capital city, before finally his castle retreat. The regulars get split up and so each follows a story arc that allows Peri and Erimem's viewpoints to shown as drastically different. Carolyn Morris plays Erimem very well in this story, she saves Vlad and then is taken back as an honoured guest. The fundamental differences between Peri and Erimem, especially cultural ones are well exploited, for instance Peri incredulously acts, “A man is dead and you think it’s good?” where upon Erimem pragmatically replies: “It is for him, his suffering is at an end”. The view points of duty, honour, and station in life are similarly shown when Peri is flabbergasted at Erimems agreement to marrying Vlad even though she has been tricked into it so that Peri may be shown clemency. Over the story it seems that this will be Erimem's last voyage, and this is believable especially given that Big Finish seem to be ending some of the new companions - they've already announced their intention to write out Charley and C’rizz, and Evelyn’s final fate is already wrapped up in ‘Thicker Than Water’. Whether it is or not only works for the first listen, mind you I've only listened to the story once so far.
  23. It is a workprint version, and so could well change before the final release. I've seen workprints a few times (through work when we were working with companies requiring data for some CGI effect or other). This one's pretty decent (not seen through work but *ahem* other sources :p) and the CGI is a mixture of stock effects from the series and quick place marker renders, making it very watchable. Not sure why people moan at its "leak", rather this than a full completed version just before release, surely? Or is it because it means some other people get to see it before the fan who's pre-ordered the DVD (and owns all the series on disc?) Changes could still happen to the story before the final version. Its a good story and better than some of the end of season episodes when they've tried to quickly tie up loose ends.
  24. This seems to be a new different format for Dr Who stories, instead of the usual 4-episode stores on 2CD's its a 3-part story with a 1 part story as the 4th. The wishing Beast was an okay story, like many of the colin baker stories it was heavy on the ham. In the Vanity Box we are treated to Colin's Lancastrian Washer Women - sounded very pantomime-dame! Just a pity there wasn't any "oh no she isn't ... oh yes she is" lines.
