    is DS9 any good?

I am not a fan of DS9. When I had a choice of watching both Voy and DS9, I gave up on DS9. I just did not like the "flawed" people. However, now that I do not have any new Star Trek's to watch, I have decided to watch the Cardassian war. It starts in episode 5x26 and runs for the last two seasons. So far, I have made it to the middle of Season 6 and it is good enough that I will finish it. Having said all that, I remember being quite suprised at the large viewing audience for DS9; people really liked it. Also, looking around for others who shared my view, I found few. Instead I found a loyal following. Therefore, I think the odds are you will like it. Oh, I did really like the episode with Q in it.
  2. I have been reading about raid5. It seems you can modify windows xp to handle raid 5. Would you recommend using this software solution or actually buying raid controllers. I really like the raid5 option since you can lose a HD and rebuild the data since I have had many hard drives fail on me. Also, I guess I just buy a motherboard that supports a 4 hd raid array, like a 775? Add a small processor like a 2.4, basic vid card, 512 ram and extra power supply? Does this sound right?
  3. Wow, thanks for the replies. I have to digest all this information and it looks like I have a lot to learn but I always need a new challenge. If others have ideas please add them.
  4. How should I do this? I want to build a bank of hard drives that is networked to my system. I would put everything on possibly 2 different 300gb HDs with 2 being used as backup. I currently have a wireless/ ethernet system with 3 computers and modded xbox all connected to a large HDTV. Should I just build a pentium 2.4, with 512ram, xp home, basic vid card? If I got 4 300gb hard drives would I need two power supplies, how many fans? Can winxp support 4 hard drives or more. Remember I only want this computer to be basically a server or should I Make it my download server. If there are any web sites, please point me to them, but I would like your ideas also.
  5. I agree about the quality, what is with 280mb anyway? Oh, I liked the episode too!
  6. Freezer.ok, will try it. It is a 250gb western digital and it was my slave. My master was a 110gb western digital and they both failed within days of each other. I have it hooked up to my old Pent 3 and it has been running spinrite for 47 hours so far. It says it is doing something but it now says it has 12,917 hours to go. After the freezer I will try the getdata program.
  7. No smoke! Just slowly became inaccessable. Tried the window recovery and I think it made things worse. So, I will give spinrite anohter 24 hours and then try getdataback. Thanks!
  8. MY 250GB with all "good stuff" on it died. I have been using spinrite for over 30 hours now and it says it has a few months to go :). Any suggestions using spinrite or other programs I should try? Thanks in advance.
  9. Ok, you guys convinced me. I just started to dl it. However, tv.com says there are 15 episodes and the torrent only lists 14. Is the torrent missing one?
  10. The list is quite impressive, however, I do remember Gene saying that the stardates were just made up. He also said they tried to make them in somewhat of a logical order just because of the fan interest. It is hard to believe that I have seen every episode listed with the exception of a few DS9 ones that I couldnt watch because they were so different from STNG and Voyager. Ah, the good ol days when you had two Star Trek Series to chose from.
  11. I have been to Star Trek Experience Twice. The first time it was with the crew of Star Trek the next Generation and a temporal trip. The second was the borg experience I saw this summer. Both were excellent and when you buy a ticket it is an unlimited visits for that day. Quark's restaurant is actually quite fun too.
  12. I liked the decalogy that Shatner ( or his writer ) did on Tek. I read all 10 books and have them all in hardback. Maybe not SciFI but Dan Brown's 4 books were also good. You folks mentioned many books that I know nothing about. I will definetly have to check out many of these, thanks.
  13. Manchester Online just posted a brief interview with STAR TREK THE NEXT GENERATION star Patrick Stewart, in which he talks about his upcoming ITV network four-part sci-fi thriller ELEVENTH HOUR. Stewart will play 'Professor Alan Hood', an emeritus physics professor who specialises in averting potential disasters. In each episode, he is called on by the Government to help avert a human disaster caused by a new scientific development. "I'm delighted to be part of this project and looking forward to starting filming in May," he said. "It feels good to be working for Granada again, which is the first time since I was in Coronation Street." "I couldn't be happier with the way this has worked out," said creator and producer Stephen Gallagher "In Patrick, I'm getting what I wanted for Hood - a mature, vigorous, heroic figure of visible intelligence and sensitivity. Stewart insists it's not ITV's answer to BBC1 hit DOCTOR WHO. "It is about science, but it is not science-fiction," he said. "There is no resemblance to DOCTOR WHO." 14. This looks interesting, I missed the earlier showings but plan on watching this one. You need HDNET from Directv to get this. Maybe someone has seen the torrent since it was aired twice already? I also read it was available to buy at William Shatners web site. Sunday, May 29, 2005 4:30 AM ET / 1:30 AM PT InFocus Mind Meld: Secrets Behind the Voyage of a Lifetime InFocus Mind Meld: Secrets Behind the Voyage of a Lifetime Secrets Behind the Voyage of a Lifetime is a candid interview between two of the biggest icons from the Star Trek franchise, William Shatner (Captain James T. Kirk) and Leonard Nimoy (Mr. Spock). In this one-on-one documentary, these two legends reveal the struggles and adventures they experienced as a direct result of their involvement with Star Trek. It also includes rare personal photographs that span the careers of the two men, as well as a visit into Nimoy's study filled with memorabilia of the incredible voyage they shared.
  15. The final episode did not meet my expectations. Seemed like Enterprise was just an "afterthought" with the focus on "fat" Riker. We already knew they started the Federation from a previous episode when the guy from the future showed Archer. The ubiquitious drwho appears to be the future now.
