  1. Brannon Braga wants you (to write his Treknobabble).
  2. Don't you think that there would be an attempt to capture them alive, or communicate with them? I'm not convinced that everyone would automatically decide to kill them on sight.
  3. I agree that it is ridiculous, but we're talking about a hypothetical. No need to get worked up.
  4. I think you're being a bit jingoistic. The borg are far more advanced than us. It probably is reasonably safe to assume that they could make mincemeat out of most any military force we, as humanity, could muster.
  5. The military wouldn't know what it was dealing with. Like I said, given the rate the Borg can spread, I'm guessing there'd be at least hundreds if not thousands of drones before the military got involved.
  6. Nope. Most people would run. And when someone doesn stand up to it, the borg would probably rip them in half or assimilate them. Any witnesses would probably wet themselves and take off. If/when the military got involved, there'd be too many to stop with anything short of nuclear weaponry, and not too many people would be willing to sanction the use of such force, especially against an ununderstood enemy. I expect they'd try diplomacy until they realise that it is futile, by witch time it would be too late.
  7. You all are assuming that we would understand the Borg. People wouldn't know what to do or how to kill them, as you're suggesting.
  8. "french military victories" + "I'm feeling lucky" = "Did you mean french military defeats?"
  9. City had it on at 10 pm. I don't know why they pushed it back for Spiderman....
  10. Sounds like there are a lot of people here with... shall I say odd ideas of what is useful and not. Junk medicines? Right.... I guess you could blame the artificiality/maleness of mathematics/statistics for the data that indicates people are living much longer now.... Btw, talk to a diabetic about how "useless" those phony drugs like insulin are. I'm sure taking a bath in honey and rose hips will make them right as rain.
  11. In the one TNG episode with the time anomoly, the Crusher's and Riker's ships (in the future) are capable of something like warp 14 (something greater than ten). So, it would seem there are some contradictions in 'canon', as to whether warp 10 is some sort of peak speed to which you can only get asymptotically closer or whether the whole thing goes past 10. All in all, meh.
  12. There is virtually no "liberal media" in the USA. Almost all media outlets in the US are contrist, centre-right, or hard right (like Fox). The bad thing about Fox is that they lie a lot. A LOT. It's entertainment, folks, not the news.
  13. Ginormous isn't a word. It's a hybrid of giant and enormous. It's meant to be a tongue-in-cheek way of saying absurdly big.
  14. Mr. Coto is far, far better than Berman and Braga. We are allowed to criticise people even though we couldn't do a better job. People criticise Michael Jackson all the time even though he is probably a better singer/dancer than they are.... and that's perfectly ok.
  15. If those things are possible, they'll be invented with or without your "Space Fleet", because all of those things would be very useful. I have a lot of faith in humanity to develop extremely powerful technology without the need for ginormous megaprojects to which to direct its studies.
  16. Well, expending trillions of dollars to buld a "space fleet" to defend Earth from an extraterrestrial invasion, using technology that may or may not work and defend against a threat for which we have no evidence of its existence... well, seems a bit kooky. But that's just me.
  17. The big announcement is $3 million donation to the 'cause'.
  18. There was another thread. Not sure where.
  19. The sets would probably be too expensive... but nonetheless, a cool idea.
  20. I think it was a huge mistake to kill Data's character. What were they smoking when they dreampt that up?
  21. Anyone else think it is a mistake for Paramount to throw the baby out with the bathwater on this one? They clearly want UPN to become the next BET. Fine. Obviously trek doesn't fit in with that... Why not sell it to another network? I'm sure there are networks that would be willing to pick up a show with minimum 2.5 million viewers. Is this really more about killing Trek? And why would Paramount do such a thing? It's a profitable franchise.
  22. Titan This is done by fans--no idea how accurate it is.
  23. The caveat is that no one can really say with certainty what our "lifetime" will be. Medical technology is going to advance A LOT over the next 50, even just 20 years.
  24. So there you have it... no galavanting around the solar system for years at a time.......... at least not until we can better handle the radiation.
  25. VonHelton, I think you're being deliberately obtuse here... I'm sorry, but the science community has concluded beyond speculation that the atmosphere deflects and absorbs a great deal of radiation. This has been demonstrated empirically. Your theory is worthless wishful thinking. "So, why haven't our probes & rovers been destroyed??" They are made using specially hardened electronics so that they can withstand constant bombardment with solar radiation. Unfortunately, it's rather difficult to do the same with humans.
