  1. Jeremiah was good. Such a shame it only got two seasons... boo @ Showtime! Damn political decisions...
  2. I know that right off the bat this might seem as some kind of advertising. And it is... kind of. It's relevant, though. I would just like to tip you guys about a site where I'm a member: www.scifistudios.com SciFi Studios is a Hollywood studio dedicated to fan submitted material. "By fans, for fans" is their motto. The site is currently being reworked, expect the interface to change (from crappy to good, hopefully :p ) soon. The crap site doesn't really matter much, however - the real action goes on in the forums (Community). This is where fans come together to talk about their favorite scifi series, and come up with new ideas. The most exciting thing going on in there atm (with the exception of the "huge" stuff coming up soon (posts about that in the forum)), would perhaps be the two television series that are being developed in the Advanced Story Creation section of the forum (Member's Creative Corner -> Advanced Story Creation), Medsci / Medlab 2066 and Who Am I?. Both of these started out in the Story Creation section as simple ideas, and then the members started brainstorming - as I am writing, WAI is currently writing the script for the 10th episode and Medlab, taking a different approach, is polishing the pilot script while completing the (somewhat complex) setting and making some prototype graphics. If you have your own ideas, feel free to submit them in the Story Creation section. There are already a few good stories in there that may need your help to get to the Advanced section (one of those would be my own creation, Order of the Shadow). Oh...and did I mention it is free to become a member? (There are paid membership options as well (I have one), but they are not required at all)
  3. I honestly like Voyager best...then follows Enterprise and TNG. I haven't finished DS9 yet (only seen the first season  )... I like Voyager basically because it has a general plot - there's a goal for the series. They try to get home. This gives the series a "driving force", so to speak. I wish they ended it better, though =/ (/me wants a Voyager movie!!)
  4. Icheb...uhm...I don't know how to write his name, but that's who I'd wanna be :p
  5. On Edit 2: Wrong, your model does not lack paradoxes. What happens, for instance, when the timetravelling you stays in the changed reality and jumps forward to the place on the timeline he is from (still in the changed reality)? Will there be two of him, since this wasn't the reality where he travelled through time? On Edit 3: Free choice is the basis of reality as we know it...at least the way I see things. Predetermination requires a driving force - something/someone must have decided where things would eventually go. This implies some form of God. Personally, I do believe in the christian God - whose greatest gift to humanity was, indeed, free choice. But let's not make this a religious debate :p On Edit 4: Time travel will inevitably create logical fallacies and paradoxes - this does not make the consept faulty, however. Remember that time travel is beyond what we understand of physical reality at present. We don't know if it's possible (but manipulation of time is possible according to Einstein's Theory of Relativity), neither do we know if it's possible. As long as this is uncertain, I think it's wise to challenge our minds with the possibilities presented by such technology. And of course, it all makes for good entertainment ^^
  6. Yep, me loves temporal mechanics theory - which is why I hold Voyager as my favorite Trek show :) (well...that, and the Borg ^^) Oh and GorunNova - we don't have the technology to experiment with temporal mechanics in a way that will broaden our understanding of it. The only thing we can do, is try to understand linear time as it passes. You can basically cut it all down to two groups: 1. Those who believe past, present and future are already determined - they are static and can't be changed. 2. Those who believe the opposite - past determines the present, and the sum of those determine the future. Neither variable is static - change one, and all will change. This implies that what will be our future if things stay as they are now, will change if I, say, go out and have lunch at Burger King tomorrow. (did this make sense at all?) I belong to the latter :p That is not correct. Well...I can't say that for sure, of course, but it definately doesn't have to be :p If you go into your own past, you will at the point of arrival manifest your current timetravelling self at that point on the timeline for as long as you are there. If your actions in that period changes the future which you come from, it should still exist in its changed form because that is the point on the time line you came from - right? Separate time and space - time will still be static in this situation, space will not. Your presense in the past will change space in the future (your present), but it will not affect time. ...my head hurts
  7. ANY theory related to time are going to have to imply some paradoxes. Such is the nature of time as we see it. The most known such theory would probably be Einstein's Theory of Relativity ;)
  8. As previously stated, temporal mechanics are pretty complicated stuff. And the fact that we humans really have no clue how time really works...well, let's just say it doesn't make it any better. Which is why I would like to argue that the previous argument that the way they use temporal mechanics in Star Trek is "loose", is faulty. We have no real grounds to make that conclusion, simply because we have NO FREAKING IDEA how things really work :p
