  1. that selling should be the first bit to be aboli9shed if we really get out there eventually... we can't let some monopolist moneyhugger lay out ground rules for exploration and settlement in space.. but the first issue is really, who's gonna get there first? as long as it's primitive(chemically propelled rockets), there always will be those working to get it done and the ones enjoying it.....im no communist, but as long as millions of people slave for the few whimsical rich,as long as money dictates progress (or rather defines progress for non-scientists,for the slob on the job),most people can only dream of it..... think about it ...i don't think theres gonna be any way to get to explore space the way star trek does as long as we have pseudo-democratic,capitalist 'sects' (say, nations) bickering about irrelevant resources and values...you see if your kids think pokemon and 50cent is more fun than physics, we're one way or another pretty much toast..not regarding the half-a-brains of voters resulting out of this dilemma.. perhaps the only way to goto space and get rid of internal combustion cars is to force it upon mankind ,the latter probably doesn't take much more time to start WWIII..... one could say the star trek timeline is kinda prophetic, personally i think roddenberry just a clever guy, gave a good estimate
  2. i dont wanna be a petty know-it-all and quarrel about that....BUT if the light bends around you what do you get of it? would you be able to see it? you are using everydays logic on a freaked out state of lets say Flux, even though we don't know much at this point we certainly know that the rules of nature are freaky i once read on a BBc site something about a hindu with a hole in his mouth through which he would get his daily nutrition...meaning his own body produces the nutrition needed and he only drank water ...read it elsewhere too ...was in the papers(nahh well internet) for about a week and never heard of him since.........either MJ12 snatched him or its all afraud...now yall think about military relevant technology.... or rather what technological leap didn't coincide with the developemnent of a stronger weapon... :) since its totally my imagination and only partially explicable through todays accepted theories most of it is satiated with the dumbness of a laymens studies of a student in 13th grade so bear with me...... or not... ;)
  3. its probably not to be taken seriously...it might be somewhat efficient for snipers ...maybe in some hundred meters distance you couldnT' make it up... also the gravitational approach seems to be flawed on second thought... unless you find a way to communicate information through a severely strong 'gravitational potential difference' you wouldn't know what would be behind your spacetimebubble...allotta glitches to work out :)
  4. you could possibly get yourself a blackhole, neutron star or something other tiny but very much massive object and put it in your pocket ...... with a little neat engineering(gotta compensate for movement, different wavelenghts and background radiation) you could just bend them lightrays around you...its probably the most ridiculous idea since the gravitational force of a blackhole's is the working force here but it could also swallow you whole and all you get is spaghetti with atomized humansauce..so youll need to shield the force which would render it useless.. maybe something about that Heim' theories since according to them em-field and gravitational-fields are connected by the intermitten particle called a graviphoton which could (say a field around your body) be spacially very definit like a raincoat so to the rest of the world you ain't there you could see everything but you could ever touch it o'course(ever tried to touch a very strongly variating gravitational field?if so please tell me how....could be fun)
  5. for some reason this really seems promising... so here some good background, scientific publications mostly..and you probably (:)) need a master in physics to understand it but for the sake of it... http://www.heim-theory.com/Contents/contents.html http://www.hpcc-space.com/publications/index.html
  6. >>forget that paper look at the alcubierre stuff i put a scientist should resent too quickly, also the idea of the alcubiere drive is quite old couple of decades so maybe just one of those theoretical modells that don't work BECAUSE of the QM-effects on space-time (-curvature, remember the energy-tensor...:) >>the guy works at plank's instyitute in germany not in nasa "sorry guys europe kicks usa butt in that stuff" ? i dont thinkso.... somewhat the thought that its called Plancks constant and Einsteins theorie of GR (remember heisenberg,helmholtz,hertz..) implies a great involvement of german scientists in fundamental discoveries...im not german by origin nor a racist, but we do have a couple of problaby strange but crative minds... oh and well someone thought about the consequences of a magnetic field of a couple of Teslas? as far as i know thats enough power to induce hallucinations in humans.... not that harmfull i think but permanemt damage from longterm exposure aint that pleasant...also, idont want my helmsman singing klingon drinking songs while we head for a red giant :) thats just one thing ...there could be some other radiation generated through the strange conditions involved since the fundamental particle modell seems to be ,at least, incomplete or flawed and i speculate (!) onsome particle transformation (maybe this leads to a way to 'extract energy from zero point fluktuations in vacuum' but..again just speculation) even if in say 20 years this idea or the alcubierre drive could be realised as prototype..still we would need some shielding technology, air would still be a problem and i think that the properties inside such a experimental spacecraft would be too the liking of a human.... while some of it maybe availbe through this discovery ,others most likely will be unsolved for decades so maybe my grandchildren will be piloting a warpcraft.... :) there was this aproximation of the romans (or was it in the Dark Ages?) going to the moon if they've had assimilated more greek science...
  7. > Basically, it's down to modifying the structure so that various wavelengths of light can pass through it. I think > it's basically done by "doping" aluminium with various compounds... The wikipedia entry hasn't got much info > but that's about it. that's what happens ...basically, as i understand it and im no QM-pro, the oxynitride-group 'broadens the bandgap' between valence and conductive band of the aluminium, so it probably wont be conductive anymore because light would interact with the conduction band electrons of a metal thus making it impenatrable for varius wavelenght of light... this is quite nice..i've just some days ago read in de.wikipedia.org ( http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bandl%C3%BCcke ) that metal cant be transparent, and well i nearly took it for granted....but you just cant beat clever engineering!
  8. mine was a good ol' 9600...went per dial-up into BTX (probably unknown outside of germany, its kinda like BBS,well... kinda exactly like it...) which was kinda lame on todays standart...but hey i was like 7 years old and stil trying to master DOS 5.0 on a 20Mhz 386SX and a couple Mb RAM...that were the days....after the Amiga 500 this was a killer machine..... the most intruiging experience regarding technological advancements was the jump from a P133 to a 2Ghz P4...now that was nice especially for games.... B)
  9. Fnord? elderbear, i bet you know Robert Anton Wilson and are quite familiar with his themes...well no matter ...no response needed ;) But that is just it...as long as there are different views on existence as is, as dumb or absurd they may be, they themselves are the proof of a "soul" of some kind,i dont like the name soul for it,but for the sake of all you conservatives out there ill call it that ... :cyclops: the sheer infinte capability to learn and aquire knowledge, to retain this knowledge,is avery likely proof (to me) for the immortal "soul", or the likely excuse that just being obliterated into nothing, the lost of all that knowledge i cant endure.... So long as man can breathe, our eyes can see, so long lives this, and this gives life to thy. -Picard in ST:TNG 2x06 The Schizoid Man Well he most likely got it from some british author some care to tell me who wrote that?

    cloning???

yes, >certain< herbs... |) well, my main point for the legitimation of cloning is historical: every "great" invention in mankind was first oppossed, mainly by people who had no gain in innovation, the powermongers,be it (for all you still-christians out there) Martin Luther abolishing Ablasszahlungen(it's when you pay the church or better the people running church for the atonement of your sins) or the quarrel between Nicola Tesla and Thomas A. Edison about power distribution(edison stuck to a way less efficient Dc-system while Tesla build the fundament for todays AC-network,well in the end edison had no chance and he stole allot of teslas idea for profit, tesla made a couple thousands of dollars while being promised a fortune). Its very easy for me to dismiss any existing moral about cloning (better said the christian way of treating morals, always this boundry of the bible as if there was no own consience/reasoning to be use) since im half atheist half agnostic (if that can be expressed that easily). while i do favour a scientific view of the universe, that is, the universe of mankind, i still believe that there has to be something like a unconceivable constant in the universe, rendering us able to think(and that is our soul, our intellect); while there is a posibility that our brain is just a dynamic chaotic system, reorganising itself to order and structure ,its just that, a possibilty, and it makes one feel small and people don't like that. Humans don't like the thought that the way they are created is not very clean and sacred but a sheer result of physics, we mask it ,christianity tabooed sex because its just too simple for the begining of a sacred being,a godlike image of themselves. so even if we clone a human being, that won't bring us a step closer to knowing if there is god ,there is a soul or anything, were just reproducing nature on a low level (and yes it is since we cannot change atom by atom of the DNA). the result is unknown, the justification is curiosity and the barrier is our own ignorance and prejudice, our clinging to be not only unique but very important to something very meaningful(lets just say god). And of course i didnt want to flame on christianity so dont even try opposing my view aggresivelly, the least i can stand are those fundamentalists claiming they are right and they are right because its christian; if we would follow some of the ten commendments and let away some (from my pov) misguided beliefs we could have paridise on earth or, even better, a Trek like comunity B) sorry if i get off and on topic lenghtly time and again, but that was quite my "stream of conscience" the moment ive read the posts...

    cloning???

also the Darwian principle of the sirvival of the fittest never actually applied on full scale..... e.g. amoeba living in your sink survive because the literally stick together, they form a kindof society.so not the fittest but the one contributing society survives (because the society contributes to him). the theory of evoltion must be changed, but that does not stop the evolution itself... well shouldnt we just try it at lest once? if HUMAN life is that special/holy (christian aspect), a clone should not have conscience,no self awareness since it is given by god or in a other mysterious process.......i know it sounds cruel but i'd really like to see if it really would be a human.... personally, i find it hypocratic to clone a animal and never a human, dictated so by morals thousands of years old, "Thou Shall Not Put Humans on the same Level as Animals" im no eco-hippie-freak seeing homo sapiens as the lowest of all animals , in spite of all, i think we as humans have the resonsibility(which came with our superior sentience) to not evaluate but cheerish/adore life in any form, not putting up a table of race evaluation (anyone remembering the Nürnberger Rassengesetze (race laws)?i dont even wanna know how these would be rephrased today to suit power today) remember that politics, economics and religion are very much interwoven, one interest reaction to another so don't let anyone tell you there will be grim repurcusions for all of mankind if one tries to defie the laws of god or profit "Politics is the sum of all actions to remain in control" Niccola Machiavelli
  12. i do use Bittornado 0.3.10 and am getting this msg: "Bad data from tracker-bad bencoded data" tried it a few times each with the passkey ans standart torrent ...no result... whoop newsflash ...somehow the msg is persistant but i do get 17seeds and 7 peers.... lets see if this is just a client or server bug (and please ! not affecting the file itself)!
  13. i googled 'round a bit butz didn't find a trace ....anyone up for a in-depth search?... Maybe UPN got their hands on something liket a Big-Brother Star Trek? i mena it's dumb (+/-) ,it's funny for people who dont know startrek (+) and it's cheap (++)!
