  1. May have gotten screwed with no release for the PC, but there is one for phones. http://www.popmobile.com/product-games.jsp?uid=1020 Found it through the stargatesg1.com web Forgot to mention there's a multiplayer game in development. Who knew. http://www.stargateworlds.com/
  2. I noticed something right away as I reupped my avatar hehe. It would be nice to keep the bigger size as it adds clarity. HEY, at least I didn't go commodore decker and make it 1000x1000! I LOST MY MARBLES WITH MY AVATAR, FULL POWERRRR INTO THE BELLY OF THE BEASTY!
  3. Ya, I read on some website that is the way to go for driver transferring. A clean install will wipe most of it out and new drivers won't work unless you do the upgrade. I've already wiped the 64 bit version off. It's not worth the trouble. Nice thing is the 32bit one has my tuner software on the win update site, and ran the pinnacle pctv installer in winxp compat mode and it works. But media center can't find the tuner. Only problems so far is the annoying switch to windows mail, a problem where after sitting for the night and rebooting it reinstalls old ATI drivers, and the magically vanishing language toolbar. Other thing is it won't let me erase the 1GB hibernation file even though it's off. And if I try to turn off UAC it messes everything up it seems. And still can't get into some "restricted" folders.
  4. I wouldn't bother with 64 bit vista at all. I got rid of the RC1 5600. Too many damn problems and still the lack of driver support for anything 64 bit in windows. Until the world is forced into the realm of 4GB equipped demon leprechaun machines and 64 bit is no longer an option, but mandatory, it's not worth the switch from 32 bit support.
  5. There definately IS better forums sw out there. With pull down menus and such. Some of the Chinese sw looks good, but the stuff I contacted people about said they have no immediate plans to translate it to English. I haven't bothered keeping up to date though on new stuff or forum sw.
  6. VISTA has a notepad gadget on the side of the screen you can add for note taking too, along with weather and crap. But like it was said before, it's just a knock off of yahoo widgets. I'm using the 64 bit RC1 5600 now, and it doesn't want to work with my tv tuner software. Don't know what else it won't work with yet, but it doesn't seem any faster either. It's got the 64 bit internet explorer too. I'll probably keep it installed for the next 10+ months until the key expires to work out all the bugs.
  7. The new ram works. Apparently newegg is shipping some OLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLD stock that was made in 1999, and is incompatible with AM2 boards or was mislabeled. New stuff was made july 16 2006, running at 802mhz. Running a sisoft bench reveals the new ram is in the 6800-7000MB/s range; only 1-300MB/s faster than the 667 it replaced. Not the 1000MB/s I was expecting, unless I overclock it probably. Anyway it feels good to finally have my hands on what I PAID for. I suggest everyone run diagnostics on their system to make sure you have installed what the label says should be there, otherwise you could go years being ripped off.
  8. 1. They should have known better. There are TONS of dangerous / poisonous creatures in the ocean. And being that close to shore which I'm sure they were.. they should have known better. Pulling the barb out killed him. But I assume he was just in shock, and it was a kneejerk reaction to do it. 2. Why the hell are we still wearing cloth for GOD damn sake. This is the 21st goddamn century. We should all be wearing carbon fiber BODY ARMOR!!!!!!!! F*@&^!# Snakes? step on em or strangle em. Bullets? who cares. The military should and people who live with dangerous animals sniffing their outhouse.
  9. I hope they got it on film!!!! Oh, and most people get stung by stepping on them.
  10. There's really nothing 3d about the new desktop. It's just got a new glossy/transparency look to it more than anything. It's nothing special and the common complaint is they copied the look from MAC OS 10. I saw those Linux screens. It's some program called XGL I think. Not very impressed with it either. I even tried installing 2 different versions of Linux the other night. 2 different versions, and NONE of them would work!@!@ Spent MINUTES downloading each DVD iso. What a waste of time. Unbutt oo, or whatever it's named, kept freezing during install from the video card I assume. Never got past that. Fedora 5 would just dump to a command line everytime I got done installing it and rebooted. It never went to the rest of the graphical autoconfigure crap that it was supposed to. Don't know why. Wasn't going to waste my time with Linux anymore. They were both 64 bit versions. Maybe it would have worked if I D/L the x86 versions? I wasn't going to waste my time D/L suse 10. Heard there were even more problems with that version, and it takes 2 DVD ISO I believe. The other one Lindows, I'm not paying for Linux sorry.. That's the problem with Linux. People who have a hard time with it will never come back to it. And there's a severe lack of support for it for gaming and drivers. And I have no problem whatsoever using windows, since I've learned to command that ship LONG ago.
  11. The screens and the fact it boots a lot faster are the only thing I like about vista, other than that, it's a hog of a program still. I'm going to put winXP back on. The media player 11 crashes too much for my taste in this beta. Ram should be here monday or tues. I paid for them to send it RMA to me first before I sent back the bad pair. It apparently was mislabeled so we'll see. I doubt I will get much of an improvement since leaving the FSB speed alone I get 6100+MB/s bandwidth, and overclocked to 750 it only jumps to 7100. So 800 should get another 1000 over that. Far from the top in sisoft that shows 11,000 out of an FX-62 I think on 1066mhz ram.
  12. You mean this? These are the features that take up the most mem. It loads pretty quick on this system.
  13. Well looky here. Happened to get my hands on a copy. It's pretty impressive, but not a big jump from XP. Mostly it's just flashy graphics that will overload your system if you have a poor video card. (those shaded "gadgets" windows on the side has a slideshow) Amazingly my ram is slower than the vid card in the performance test! Maybe it's because I refuse to use a page file, and half of it was taken up by the damn OS (300MB with most everything shut down) so yes it does require at least 512 to 1GB, or it was because my ram isn't running at full speed, yet*800mhz. It says anything at or below a 3 is only good for word processing and not gaming or multimedia. So if you have a AMD64 x2 3800+ with 1GB ram an ati x800 256MB and a seagate 250GB 7200.10 SATA2, you'll be able to put the Ba'al to the wall for a few years. I think it's a keeper, only just for the AERO graphics.
  14. I emailed the ram guy at corsair, and they said just to RMA it. Maybe they errored on the speed of these modules since sisoft says they are CM2-5400 and not 6400, like the sticker on the side says they are. I've pushed these things to the limit with what this board can take, and it won't go past 750mhz for the ram. So it's probably they were wrong with the model of these modules. The problem I was having with the ddr timing (speed setting) in the bios is whenever I tried to change 1 thing, It would freeze. I finally had to change the timing or whatever from 75ns to 105ns before it would let me adjust trc and everthing else. But still no go over 800. Here is a link to the article that explains you have to overclock these things to get close or over the rated speed of these damn 800mhz rams. http://techreport.com/reviews/2006q2/socket-am2/index.x?pg=2 Try another example. The Athlon 64 X2 4200+ flips bits at 2.2 GHz. With whole-number divisors, it can set its memory clock speeds to, effectively, 489 MHz for DDR2-533, 628 MHz for DDR2-667, and 733 MHz for DDR2-800. That's it. None of 'em will run at their full potential. I haven't consulted with the appropriate JEDEC committee, but I believe the technical term for an implementation like this one is "half-assed."
  15. I tried it, still didn't work. There's a lot of complaints though that 800ddr2 does not run at full speed on these systems. It's some kind of bios problem that the manufacturers haven't worked out yet. So I'm hoping that is what the problem is. I also noticed that cpu-z and sisoft both say my ram is CM2x512-5400C4 at pc2-5300 333mhz and not 6400 like the label says. Am I going to have to choke a bitch at corsair? Or is it just saying that because the ram is running below speed, even though I have it OC to 740 now? 2.222GZ CPU voltage 1.36 ram 1.9v
  16. So I have a new PC, but the ram isn't running at full speed. Corsair XMS2 TWIN2X1024A-6400 on an ECS KA3 MVP board. Timing for these chips are 5-5-5-15 at 1.9v I've got the phoenix bios and have maxmemclk set to ddr2800, but it reads 667 in sisoft. I'm thinking I have to increase voltage instead of leaving it at auto or some other FSB speed setting. Because if I try to change the timing in the bios too much it freezes. And I don't want to overclock it just to get it to 700mhz like I have tried. Those screens are on the next / bottom page. I'm thinking I need to set the NPT Fid control to something higher. Screenshots of the bios are here, but it's not my bios setup. http://www.hardocp.com/article.html?art=MTExMywyLCxoZW50aHVzaWFzdA
  17. It's dual. I got both from newegg. The MB is the ECS KA3 MVP. Not the best overclocker from the reviews, but I didn't think I would need or use it for that. Not sure what to change of the settings in the phoenix bios to tweak it. Don't want to melt the thing down after just buying it. I did set the maxmemclk to ddr2800, and tried messing with the mem timings below that, but it locks up if I try anything too drastic. I can change the voltage and HT bus voltage and speed, just don't want to melt it down, like I said before. Screen caps of the bios screen are here http://www.hardocp.com/article.html?art=MTExMywyLCxoZW50aHVzaWFzdA
  18. Because with the 800MHZ ddr2 on the AM2, you have to. I just did sisoft and CPU-Z, it was running at 667 at 200FSB. I had to bump the HTT a few to get the ram speed up along with the cpu speed. Something they didn't mention with AMD. So now I'm at 2.1Ghz on a x2 3800 just so the ram will run close to or over 800 with this RD580 crossfire MB. But damn this is a fast mofo! Installing XP and SP2 is a breeze. Having 1GB of ram is awesome. I probably won't upgrade for another 8 yrs!
  19. Isn't SDRAM - DOUBLE the cost of DDR now? Just another reason to get rid of old tech. Personally I wouldn't buy jack from Ebay. Lots of people get ripped on price and scams. Can't you use pricegrabber or bizrate to search for ram and have it delivered to the UK?
  20. I just bought all new components except for the monitor for $630, $560 after rebates. Most of the stuff I found on sale like the case, or on rebate and got in on the deal, except for the ram which shot up $25 before I could get corsair 512x2 DDR2 800. My vid card is the only thing which does not make my system a hard core game rig, but everything else makes Anubis worship it for the price. amd64 x2 3800 AM2
  21. And I have one of those drives now, SATA2 300MB/s or 3.0Gb if you prefer, with NCQ, and'll post a benchmark when I get the cpu and ram on friday. I've been wanting a notebook for a long time, but didn't care much for the damn configs offered by the big name co.s. They either had the large screen I wanted, and a crappy video card/cpu, or the other way around. Now with the X2 coming out, maybe they'll finally put a damn vid card in worthy of gaming AND a 17" screen for 900-1000$. Paying any more isn't worth it.
  22. It might be like mine is. You have to set the jumper switches on the MB. But if you don't have the owners manual, it'll probably be impossible to know which switches to flip to make it accept a different CPU. My bios does also have a setting to make it 133 or 100.
  23. Because 939 boards and CPUs are deader than jesus. AMD is going to AM2 boards and DDR2 and X4 CPUs. Why pay the same for old crap when you can get the new? It's about TIME they finally cut the damn on the old stuff. I noticed this with newegg, and I'm hip to their scam now. If something is selling hot, they extend the rebate, and sometimes cut the price for another week. A*holes. Usually when a rebate is over, it doesn't come around for another month or ever. But newegg can just re update new rebate PDFs.
  24. They should have had the assguard fart helium. you figure out those gate symbols yet powdered toast?
  25. You can easily find a P3-550 or lower online for $13. My FSB can adjust with jumpers to accept 550 at 133, but I have a 350 at 100. I just decided 8 yrs later that it's better to buy all new AMD64 X2 componets from newegg. My vid card is the last upgrade I did and is limited to 2x instead of 4x. I thought about just getting a AGP 939 and saving the card, but eh.
