If our future means we are a united planet, what government would it have?

To paraphrase Winston Churchill

No one "pretends that democracy is all knowing or all wise, it simply is the best form of government that has been tried from time to time".

Communism doesn’t work - every one wants more than the next bloke - call it Individualism or Capitalism, Greed, Corruption what ever, - In the USSR farmers who worked on state owned farms were more efficient at growing produce on their allocated land than they were on the land they worked as employees of the state on state owned farms.

The world needs to grow and mature.

Socialism is not a dirty word and a corporation can be run well or badly government owned or not as long as the framework for open and fair competition and the ministers (congressmen) are held accountable.

Health-Care is a right for all – Usually a government operation is more efficient because of how taxes are raised – It’s not Marxism at work just bookkeeping and pharmaceutical purchasing power

At the moment subsidies are handed out by US, Japan and the EU that deliberately keep African countries in poverty by de-valuing their agricultural exports and increasing the price for the average US/JA/EU consumer - this has been alleviated somewhat by the rise of price in commodities like iron ore and the like by the ever hungry Chinese but in many situations it has funded corrupt governments, warring tribes and remanents of the cold war. Japan, Western Europe and the US still has a defence posture for facing of with the USSR.

Then 9/11

The US the POWERHOUSE of the world economy is indebted to its neck

The world does need to change and quickly otherwise were headed for deep poop....

yeah' date=' I say that we will always be divided. There would be littel progression if there was no competition. Mabey if we encountered an Alien race that was threating to kill us all, then perhaps we might unite, but fat chance on that. [/quote']

Or if Earth get colonies in the galaxy that try to break free (as usual).

"If our future means we are a united planet, what government would it have?"

Maybe governmment is the problem, not the solution....

It seems to me in the end that all government tends towards fascism - ultimately emphasising control, using fear of some other race or religion to justify the derprivation of liberties and applying violance to do so, whether domestically or an overseas war machine.

Take the US - a nation born with a passion for liberty and lofty ideals, now reduced to lieing its way into a war for oil, and a national budget which spends more on the military than anything else - including its own citizenry.

I'm getting round to thinking that anarchists have the right idea...

"Government is an association of men who do violence to the rest of us."

(Leo Tolstoy, Russian Novelist and Christian Anarchist)

"Anarchism ... stands for the liberation of the human mind from the dominion of religion; the liberation of the human body from the dominion of property; liberation from the shackles and restraint of government. Anarchism stands for a social order based on the free grouping of individuals for the purpose of producing real social wealth; an order that will guarantee to every human being free access to the earth and full enjoyment of the necessities of life, according to individual desires, tastes, and inclinations." - Emma Goldman(U.S. anarchist and author)

The ultimate problem is humanity - government is only necessary because people are incapable of acting in a manner that is mutually beneficial in a "state of nature" thus prompting the covenant.

Of course, government being created and run by people means that it's inherently flawed as well - but still better than the state of nature.

Yes, I'm affraid you're right, that's why I voted computer controlled. Only problem is that it would still be humans building the computers. To quote some race in Stargate (forgot the name): "You're very young still". Referring to humans as a race/culture/... So maybe the future will hold the key... (I can hope, can't I...)
