  1. Always remember you rifle was made by the cheapest bidder
  2. Just another reason for the abolition of nuclear weapons to quote Churchill "that damned invention" any weapon that is not used is by definition a useless weapon plus they cost to much money to maintain The US should show some leadership and push to abolish them world wide - they are a disaster waiting to happen
  3. opps theres a square in there (G=M/D2) my mistake and a silly one at that I am not suggesting that you can't oribit a singularity (provided your are outside the event horrizon) merely that if a artificial singularity 'popped' into existance it would have an affect on steller masses even at 4 light years distant, possibly changing the orbit of an entire star system and that might not be a good thing It's all very interesting speculation in any event
  4. I agree except to point out that even very brief exposure to a massive gravity well strong enough to 'Warp Space" would at very least alter the orbit of the entire sol system probably even the proxima system at approx. 3.7 light years. Remember Gravity is equal to mass devided by distance(G=M/D). The sun bends space around it ever so slighlty and it's gravity field extends over 30 billion km - imagine the range of a gravity field from a singularity strong enough to warp all known matter and energy beyond what we currently call the universe. All the dark energy (vacuum energy - same as zero piont module stuff) in between galaxys isn't that strong.
  5. Warp Drive according to the 1701-D Interactive technical manual is 'continuim distortion propulsion' in other words the space in front of the vehicle, in direction of travel shinks while space behind increases for less than the smallest quanta of time in a sort of back and forth motion. In Trek they achieve this by using 'suspace fields' what ever that means. In reality you would need enormous gratiton (if they exist CERN still haven't found them yet but they might when they finish building the LHC) fields that would most certainly destroy all matter within the event horizon including the vehicle as it would be the singularity - plus there is a slight problem of navigating - let's say you could go 2c (twice the speed of light) 660 000 km per second - at night I like travelling at speed where I can see the road for 10 secs ahead (kangaroo's are hard to dodge I have hit 8 over the years at great expense to my vehicles) if we use the same princible for space travell at 2c you would need effective sensors that worked FTL to a distance of 6 000 000 km and thats just to see what your going to hit in 10 secs at warp 2 not to mention inertial problems of dodging and slowing down. It will take a MASTERY of particle physics maybe even Grand Unification Theory before we even come close..............
  6. Standard tactic is give you the broadside and circle round for another pass - an and if a settlement is reached it, like a sailing ship and usually whittled down by this point $10,000 with a hypothetical cap of $50,000 seems hardly worth the effort - seems to me you have been put in the ROLL OVER category - they know you haven’t enough cannon balls to wage war so you MAKE PEACE They are risking some pretty bad backfire – Super Size-Me resulted from a law suit filled against protesters in London carrying placards like Mc Salty and Mc Heart Disease (judge made a split decision most of the placards were within the realm of reason – some others were a bit over the top)… not sure who paid costs but all this salad menu crap originates from this case Why are they squeezing so hard? - Sci-Fi fans are a force to be reckoned with; they renamed a shuttle for goodness sakes..... The whole mess defies logic…
  7. To paraphrase Winston Churchill No one "pretends that democracy is all knowing or all wise, it simply is the best form of government that has been tried from time to time". Communism doesn’t work - every one wants more than the next bloke - call it Individualism or Capitalism, Greed, Corruption what ever, - In the USSR farmers who worked on state owned farms were more efficient at growing produce on their allocated land than they were on the land they worked as employees of the state on state owned farms. The world needs to grow and mature. Socialism is not a dirty word and a corporation can be run well or badly government owned or not as long as the framework for open and fair competition and the ministers (congressmen) are held accountable. Health-Care is a right for all – Usually a government operation is more efficient because of how taxes are raised – It’s not Marxism at work just bookkeeping and pharmaceutical purchasing power At the moment subsidies are handed out by US, Japan and the EU that deliberately keep African countries in poverty by de-valuing their agricultural exports and increasing the price for the average US/JA/EU consumer - this has been alleviated somewhat by the rise of price in commodities like iron ore and the like by the ever hungry Chinese but in many situations it has funded corrupt governments, warring tribes and remanents of the cold war. Japan, Western Europe and the US still has a defence posture for facing of with the USSR. Then 9/11 The US the POWERHOUSE of the world economy is indebted to its neck The world does need to change and quickly otherwise were headed for deep poop....
  8. I'd contact seller If they don’t want it back - sweet! If they do - ask for a postage paid return and bill them $10 US an hour for time expended and lost productivity - or store voucher - include invoice!! I think you have found vulnerability in their billing system that they are fixing, trying to fix or ignore for monetary reasons. Not your problem. However if you knowingly received goods for which you have no valid transfer of ownership contract then that a least by my understanding of common law is – receiving stolen goods a criminal offence which means you’re nailed in civil litigation and liable for amount owed plus legal cost ect, ect, I you contact and keep a WRITTEN record of communication, then you are covered from all angles of attack
  9. Name: Benjamin W. - aka avagriffon or Griffon Location: Geelong - Sort of down the road from Melbourne, Australia - Home the most recent incredible Commonwealth Games Age: Old enough to have attended the Sci-Fi Blitz of ST Motion Picture Star Wars, Alien(S), Robocop, Bladerunner, Close Encounters the list seems to go on and on, bloody good at the time in the dying days of the Drive Inn.... Interests: Science - (have been to the deep space network in Canberra and Parkes the most gorgeous radio dish in existence which received and retransmitted TV Apollo 11 moonwalk) - Art - The Australian Art Gallery - Has had some of the great exhibitions in the last few years which has given me a new appreciation - Music - Mozart being the Fav. I depend on my friends at YAMAHA for that fix. - History with emphasis on war and international relations, my grandfather was awarded the O.B.E during a crucial phase of the battle of Al-Alamien for relaying radio comm. on motorbikes – long-range short wave radio was disrupted by solar activity – wonder WiFi and bit-torrent technology would have helped…
  10. It's more efficient for Mass Distribution in a Global Environment Any theory that supposes downloading poor quality torrents competes with revenue or potential revenue from legitimate sales is crazy. I still can't believe a legitimate service isn't on offer that uses the watermark (Sci-Fi, SKY or whatever as non-invasive ad space i.e. a rotating series of watermarks) as ad breaks are used currently. Ever since the introduction of crypto like cp and Macrovision the Publishers have gone Rabid over protecting their content (ever try to get DVD operating on Grandma’s 35year old TV) - think about it if they could they would try to use crypto to control the content all the way to your optic nerve. A 'CapitolVision' Chip at birth and the correct Neuro surgery should do the trick (not so crazy as it sounds if you have ever read how bionic ears work - in ST they would call them Audio-Neural Interfaces). Or huge databases containing lists of who was entitled to what, so that each distribution could be identified to a specific licence and nail whoever shared it or why not go for the for full 1984 and have roaming teams raiding houses searching your storage media. If you speak on a loud speaker you can’t go crying if it's recorded edited and republished - I can't see the difference between sound and radio or packets - atomic and sub-atomic. It’s called Broadcasting
  11. Azureus 2.4.0.2 uses highly efficient decentralized tracking and a RC4 encrypted tunnel – There are services that obfuscate your IP putting you behind a big NAT router (basically) logs are deliberately not maintained. With this approach by the time MPAA, ISP or the NSA figure out what your I/O traffic is the copyright will have long expired. IP blocklists are reactive - Private IP from a service or product like 'Anonymizer' is the only true way obscure your traffic and hide your ISP assigned IP. The only other way I can think of is an Open Wi-Fi hotspot thus using someone else’s IP - sometimes you can find one with UnPnP enabled.
  12. The whole issue is sticky - The only reason I joined this site years ago was because VHS distribution stopped shipping ST-Enterprise to Australia and thus my local video store (right at the season one cliff-hanger). I own a copy of every ST, STTNG, DS9 and VOYAGER ON VHS, and now DVD. The only thing stopping me now from buying a DVD of ST-Enterprise is: A: MPAA and Paramount by association B: Being dicked (loyal fan) around, it really irritates me C: Seems to me I bought the other 4 series twice, this one is on the mount, I mean house D: They broadcast it - the medium TV/CAB/SAT is irrelevant it will be shared, stolen, sold, burned ect. - After All No One Is Perfect. Although it would be nice in PAL As for continuing to download, hopefully we will, just like breaking the law be able to do so if we choose. Azureus 2.4.0.2 uses highly efficient decentralized tracking and a RC4 encrypted tunnel – There are services that obfuscate your IP putting you behind a big NAT router (basically) logs are deliberately not maintained. With this approach by the time MPAA or the NSA figure out what your I/O traffic is the copyright will have long expired. Not that I advocate breaking the law
  13. Gees there are a few people here with pie on thier face. If someone does something silly, tell them or ignore them - don't ban, threaten or sue then when someone does something cool it's even more fun to complement Thanks For The Site Nite, Trully Marvellous Effort..................

    Religion

God knows I don't like to post when it comes to religion and theology but In this case I feel compelled to share my limited and mortal understanding of what really matters - My faith or understanding, allows me to consider the possibilities (without blasphemy) question my understanding (without lack of faith) and most importantly CHOOSE THE RIGHT (without fear of retaliation) it is these factors that mark and define my faith, but for one and the most important factor, My faith requires me to NEVER IMPOSE OR BELITTLE ANYONE ELSE with my beliefs. We as human beings have the most important obligation to choose the right, because in the end to choose the right from wrong (WE ALL KNOW WHEN WE DON'T) and to live with and accept the consequences, FREE WILL, is the most important gift we have...(just ask the borg)
