Guest Mrthumps
An early start this week with the thread as I'll be on the road Sunday morning(my time) so this way folks can have get the discussion going with out any problems. Feel free to use the time to discuss what you think is going to happen in this weeks up but try to keep the spoilers to a minimum until the ep airs. As always, the same rules apply as they have to previous weeks.
Antilles
Ill be in later with my usual offerings but does anyone know why they changed the title from 'Invisible Eugene' to 'Random Shoes' at fairly short notice?
[MM]
They are messing with all the titles in the latter part of the series. "Virus" is now called "Combat" and "Apocalypse" is now being called "End of Days" and that's just the one's I know of so far. As for this ep - poor. Basically a regurgitated form of Dr. Who's Love & Monsters ep.
Antilles
Well I have to totally agree with Mad Martha on this one, I was able to watch it all the way through but by the end I was so disappointed, exactly like Love n Monsters, a bit of fun but goes right to the bottom of the list and will probably never watch this one for a long time. With only 4 episodes left this year they better improve and leave us begging for Series 2. I usually pick out scenes to discuss but theres nothing to discuss, 3/10! Oh apart from the cool David Bowie track, thats about all it had going for it!
kyran
I sat through it but it was pretty dire watching and i can watch almost anything the kids up and went :) so it gets a poor rating from me
Guest Mrthumps
I found it to be very slow and extremely dull. So dull that a few times I was tempted to stop watching. Shame they didn't go into more detail about the eye. It could have made the ep more interesting. For once I'm going to side with the haters as call this a bad ep and my vote shall reflect that. Antilles
Im generally not a hater and stil love the series, but blimey can you imagine if every episode was like that itd be the biggest flop in history! Still, despite this poor episode, some good news in.... Torchwood gets 2nd series.Official. http://www.unitnews.co.uk/story.php?slug=Torchwood-Gets-Second-Series&article_id=831 and Torchwood beats Lost again.... http://www.unitnews.co.uk/story.php?slug=Torchwood-Beats-Lost-Again&article_id=
Megalith
I haven't watched it yet but it looked good from the trailer, that Torchwood is getting higher ratings than lost is quite an achievement for this show imo. will vote/comment later on ep 9 gonna watch it tonight

Vyperion
Well I'll keep it short... - Nope. - People pay to watch Lost. - Down to 40% of their opening audience - If you are that tired before watching then go to sleep since you'll probably dream better sci-fi. - I know where I can get it, I don't want it. I haven't watched intentionally since the opener. This is my sci-fi equivalent of Sex in the City (which I loathed as well). If I say too much more they might have to call out animal control to lock me away in a cage.

TFMF
- Down to 40% of their opening audience Does that include the ratings on BBC2? I've heard BBC2 still holds up good ratings.
Vyperion
Ouch, just..ouch. I guess we can all guess where your vote went this week. ;) Indeed, not like there's anything I can do about it except stop paying my license fee.. ..except then I'll be the one that gets locked up for not paying. I can't win. Only QI stops me from burning Television centre to the ground (and the expensive petrol prices). Does that include the ratings on BBC2? I've heard BBC2 still holds up good ratings. That's probably why it's being moved to BBC2 and the second series is confirmed. At least BBC2 is recieved by 99% of the country, last I heard only 70% could get BBC3. edit- Someone call animal control quick, I'm rabid!
Antilles
- People pay to watch Lost. Then thats their undoing! I wouldnt watch Lost even if 'I' was paid!
Megalith
lol just looked at vyperions sig and all the episodes people have said are good he hasnt even watched Torchwood rating : Series - 1/9 - "You beat Lost but people willingly pay to watch Lost" Episode 1 - 0/1 - Don't like it. Slow start, boring characters. Episode 2 - 0/2 - Rip-off of an Outer Limits story and one I didn't like at that. Episode 3 - X/3 - N/A, haven't seen it Episode 4 - 1/4 - Yeah, cliched as it is, it was okay Episode 5 - X/5 - N/A, haven't seen it Episode 6 - X/6 - N/A, haven't seen it Episode 7 - X/7 - N/A, haven't seen it Episode 8 - X/8 - N/A, haven't seen it Episode 9 - 0/9 - No, just no. me thinks someone looks here and if it hasnt had a good revue you are watching it to moan about. As far as lost goes who pays to see lost? i for one dont, i certainly wouldnt goto the cinema to watch it if they did what star trek did an put episodes on as films so you had to watch or you lost key plot scenarios. like RS i wouldnt except payment to watch lost but having seen several of the episodes more than once now cant see how anyone can make a judgement without seeing episodes that are being rated..... nuff said lol
Vyperion
Right well shall I stick to one sentence posts from now on, much safer. I liked it OR I disliked it. I haven't watched a lot of them because I don't wanna waste the time or bandwidth to see them. 2Gb is just enough to get the really good porn :D
[MM]
BBC2's viewing figures have stayed consistent at around the 2Mill mark. (initial nights figures were 2.4Mill) BBC2 has been known for some time to be after the show - they know a "good thing" (meaning : popular show) when they see it and want it for themselves. BBC3 lost the fight to keep it for themselves. Now some ppl don't like the show - well that's OK , it's their choice - ultimately it's the shows ratings that decide it's future - and from where the BBC are standing , the ratings are good enough to give it another series. The move to being a BBC2 show should help TW - BBC2 get a bigger slice of the money pie to spend on their stuff and so by implication , TW should be given a better budget in the future :) I would like to think this would help the show become even better. As for "just watching a show to moan about it" - OK I ask this : By your own sig you say you watched eps 1,2 and 4 and then looked like you gave up watching altogether (fair enough) - But, what made you decide to "tune in" this week and watch this particular ep ? (especially after the bad revue's ? ) [MM]
Vyperion
I didn't need the TV for what I was doing and I have a cable box. Stuff on other channels I'd seen about seventeen times already. I didn't watch it to moan, I watched to see if it had got better... edit - removed a lot of ranting after typing
Tenebrae
Yeah, I agree with the "Love and Monsters" sentiment - the guy even LOOKED the same, wasn't he on Grange Hill? Good opportunity for Gwen to practice her pensive expression... just as well she did, there wasn't much else going on here. The real problem here was, they kind of insinuated that there was actually going to be some stuff happening... but no, nothing happened. No aliens or anything, just a poor imitation of American Beauty and yet another wasted oppurtunity. Not to mention the ending? We had a rendition of Danny Boy - if anyone in the Church wasn't crying before that, they sure were after... - then a baffling momentary resurrection to say the gurning Gwen and then off to heaven? Just silly. It's as if the writers got to the end of the funeral scene and went "huh, still a few minutes to fill... I KNOW!"
maybrick
The difference between this and Gods and Monsters is that G&M was a comedy episode that fell flat. This one was played serious and was actually a pretty poignant story I thought. I wouldn't really compare the two at all, other than the gimmick of using the first person perspective of an outsider character. It's easy to see why this would be an unpopular one on a scifi message board since the story relies heavily upon drama and not so much the "sci", but I thought it was quite good.
