USWhoFan
B) It's pretty darn close, at least in functionality(so far), but I wouldn't exactly say a "tricorder" since you're not going to easily carry this puppy over your shoulder or clipped to your belt. But still way cool! Vyperion
I remember a few years ago seeing an actual Tricorder. It was a palm sized scientific instrument that could take various measurements like soil ph, humidity, read electrical current and a few other little functions. It even beeped like one from the show. The first guy who observed one being used commented about the beeping because the user had turned the sound off.

I think you are talking about the TR-107 Mark 1 from Vital Technologies Corporation. :)
Sloane31
Yeah I can remember that too. There was also a medical one developed, I may have read about it in Star Trek Magazine. Something about prostate cancer detection maybe (as well as other medical uses) Would be ace if these were all rolled into one device.
bbbb
I remember that old 12 year old tricorder. Never saw one in person but I thought it was really awesome.

bbbb
Has this thing gone anywhere over the last ten years? I don't remember hearing anything about it at all recently.
The Underscore
The company originally responsible for the real-life invention of the tricorder has since gone out of business.
bbbb
That does not surprise me. I don't know many non-trek fans who would want to buy one.
