Never been a big fan of the DS9 series imo it centered to much around the station and not enough on the ships or other planets :( BUT!! if they do make a film i think id have to go see it ;D

That was kinda the point. It was supposed to stand apart from the other trek series. The whole thing was very much about politics and the human condition.

With as much as everyone is down on ST these days I can't imagine they would every make a DS9 movie...

I'm actually wondering where the movie franchise will go... if it they will continue with the pre-quel stuff (i.e. Enterprise, and the latest movie). It seems that if they are going to spend money and time on making a pre-quel movie that they will most likely stick to that for a while.

Shame... I would like to see post Dominion war series... guess I'll just have to keep reading the books. :)

You have a really good point, gjnave. It is very difficult to predict where the movie franchise will go from here. Several things could happen after the new movie comes out.

Maybe a new version of the original series on television (ala Battlestar Galactica)

Maybe a post-TNG era film (I think this is unlikely, but I would like to see one)

Maybe another prequel film featuring the TOS characters (ala Batman or James Bond)

Paramount is trying to emulate the success of the film reboot franchises of late (Batman, James Bond, Incredible Hulk, etc.) So, logically we might surmise that Paramount would opt to produce another prequel film with the TOS characters. I guess we won't know for sure for a while.

It's always hard to tell where these things will go... because it's often a case, a film will be a big success and there's a rush to cash in... but different people will be doing the project and so, it can go off in a totally different direction.

A very good point, it wrapped up very conclusively - hence my point that IF you wanted to do something, it would be difficult to get the characters back together.

There are still places they could go though, as I elaborated upon. TNG was pretty open ended... and Voyager still had plenty of loose ends... although, in many ways we should never, ever make any more Voyager. Ever.

hello all! been gone/busy for a few days and just got back online! glad to see this particular topic of conversation still alive! thanks!

that being said, let me say that i agree with you all so far. it really is too hard too tell what will happen. tng had a lot of room for more, so did voyager. in fact, as much as i liked seeing the crew of voyager get home, (i mean, come on, we were all rooting for them!) the story did lack substance. i still wanted more, as i did with ds9. however, again i agree, ds9 did wrap up pretty well. its almost like they had the notion that a show based on a starship could "continue to explore new things" thus spawning movies, new shows, etc. whereas a station "stays put" and so should a show based on a station (even tho we all know ds9 had maneuvering thrusters! lol). i dunno. just a thought.

and lets face it, even with the new movie, i hate to say, *sigh*, that the star trek we all know and love, MIGHT be coming to an end (i say might because as has been agreed, u never can tell). the generations are changeing, space travel isnt quite so interesting to people anymore, a lot of stories have been done covering just about anything you can think of (and a lot you couldnt!), i don't want the trek to end! beleive me! i have been engulfed by the star trek universe all my life. literally! i am twenty eight. that makes me born in 79. i love it, my father loves it, and the rest of my family may not like it, but they also cant imagine a world without star trek. and a friend of mine said once that he hated star trek, with a passion, but cant help wondering what it would be like to be "beamed up" ...  i always told him he could come to a con with me and "see the world" as "we" do, but he always declined calling "all of us" star trek dorks! but then again, he collects comic books! lol!

again, just some thoughts........anybody?  :thinking:

If you really want to follow up on the post Dominion War DS9 world, the books are very good (well, most of them are).

The one to start with is the "Avatar" series - 2 books. This takes place immediately (1 month) after the series finale.

~~~~~~
On a side note:
Another book which was really interesting is called "A Stitch in Time" and tells Garaks entire back story. This book actually came out before the series finale. In fact, in the tv episode Bashir is reading a letter that he claims is from Garak - that is this book!
  • 2 weeks later...
For more DS9 action I'd definitely recommend the novels. Same for Voyager. They have a whole continuation of the two series with these novels. You can check memory alpha for a list of them.
