I've loved having long hair in the past - I may have to wait for retirement to grow it out again. To convince people that it was safe to walk around at ground zero, a few soldiers had a geiger counter out and were demonstrating how Trinitite (the green glass created from the fused sand) had a lower count rate than their depleted U ammunition! I actually snuck some Trinitite out - but a year later my wife chucked the container I had it in out during a move. :( My guess is that the real problem with the depleted-U is the micro-particles that get created during an armor piercing hit ... if I recall correctly, some of it vaporizes.
