  1. You do realise that in the UK the adopted HD standard is going to be 1080i not 720p. Meaning the screen you linked *isn't* "HD" enough to show that without downscaling the image. And here's the hidden bitch about LCD flat screens (including computer monitors) : Do on-line research for the screen you are interested in , and look at the bit depth that the screen can resolve. When you find what it can do , bear this in mind - DVD's and digital video normally use a bit depth of 24bit colour. (and for monitors many GFX cards and games like to run in 32 bit colour) How many flat screens are out there that can "do" 24 bit colour I ask ? :) ( from my own research I have only found 16 bit LCD screens so far - this is why you get the "solarisation" effect on flat screens) In summation - WAIT :)
  2. For someone totally new to DW I really would suggest starting from the "new" series of DW. i.e. With Chris Eccelstone's first story and then work up to date. This is because the old DW is just that - OLD , and it shows. This makes them harder to get "into" than the new series (which was made specifically with new viewers in mind). And frankly a lot of the Hartnell eps weren't that good - nor did they really represent what DW would become over later years. (IMHO) Start with the new stuff :) It won't really spoil any of the previous stuff since the new series deliberately made a clean start with the stories - the only real things it carried over was the Dr himself and the TARDIS. (oh and that screwdriver thing ;) ) The DVD's for the new stuff should be easily available for rent by now - also a bonus over the old series. If you are dead set in starting with the old series I'd suggest going with the start of the Patrick Troughton (the 2nd Dr) stories - a good beginning point for the old show. [MM]
  3. Computer Savant 43 % Nerd, 60% Geek, 69% Dork For The Record: A Nerd is someone who is passionate about learning/being smart/academia. A Geek is someone who is passionate about some particular area or subject, often an obscure or difficult one. A Dork is someone who has difficulty with common social expectations/interactions. You scored better than half in Geek and Dork, earning you the title of: Computer Savant. People confuse you with a Nerd all of the time. You aren't some genius, like some people have said, and didn't/don't really like school all that much (and you especially hated some of the social aspects, like getting mocked). It's just that you have some passions and interests that you're extremely into/good at, and this has placed you in circles with other social outcasts, some of whom are exceptionally bright. The awesome thing about being where you are is that you get to hang out with an elite group (though you'd probably rather be alone, or with only the closest friends and family) and you can make quite a good career for yourself in your particular specialities. Common to this group are people who are highly into electronics/computers as that is where the money lies, today. Congratulations! Bang on right - I'm in Electronics - and a rather specialist branch at that.
  4. I'm across the divide on that one - ZX Spectrum for me - rubber keys an all :p
  5. Heh , yeah I owned , played and loved those early X-Wing games. XWAUpgrade eh? Sounds interesting :) I also played SWG for about a year solid (Yes , I have NO life) - but sorry to say I felt the ppl running it pandered to the whiny kids too much (all the kids wanted to be a Jedi - so they eventually made the game so *everybody* could be one). Since this server you talk about is done by such fans I'd be very sceptical about it's playability. Not to mention it's breaking copyright with both Lucas AND Sony at the same time - if there's such a thing as ASKING for trouble than that would be it :) (don't expect it to last too long before it gets jumped on!)
  6. As a suicide bomber crashing into a top level board meeting of the MPAA :p Making my final act a last defiance to "the system" I hate so dearly :D [MM] (sticking it to the man with C4!)

Colourful and humorous , with a little bit of politics at the end ;) I'll say 8/10 for the above :) GOD! I *must* be bored to be doing this !
  8. Bah! So much for sneaking in un-noticed to make a quiet little post :p
  9. Not a single mention of NGE - tsk! I'd have to say personally that while GITS (all of 'em) got me into Anime in the first place it was NGE that gave me an appreciation of the stories and their complexities. I mainly prefer those that concentrate on "the human condition" rather than big robot fights etc.... So my list would go summat like this : GITS (I'm a big Cyber Punk fan) NGE (despite the Big robots , wonderful blend of western and eastern cultures) Elfen Lied (NYU! and no I don't class this as eechi !) Gunslinger Girl (Get the hankies ready) Trigun (A silly show - then BANG! , hang on where did that story come from ? :) ) Cowboy Bebop (Spike's just too cool , and don't leave stuff in the fridge!) Battle Angel Alita (I only got shortened versions of that ATM - still looking for the original full length ones , had them once and deleted them by mistake :( ) Hellsing (The original Anime - I really don't like the new "Ultimate" at all) Lain (wonderful exploration of alternative reality - Matrix style) Tenchi Muyo (all the others just all seem to be alternate versions of pretty much the same thing) Nadesico (about as close to Gundam as I get! and only because this one don't take it's self seriously) Eureka 7 (OK, so I might have lied about not liking Gundam stuff :D ) as for eechi : Mahoromatic (special mention for the final ep - where GAINAX show they could still do "serious" if they wanted to) Chobits (NYU all over again ??) Onegai Teacher and Twins (tacky I know but I like the humour so :p ) He is My Master (same explanation as Onegai so :p ) Okies, there's prolly more I forgot but that will do for now :) [MM] PS. I like the new GITS:Solid State Society - maybe another series in the pipeline ?
