GorunNova
... but if you take it on faith that a tree has fallen, I guess whether or not the tree HAS actually fallen becomes irrelevant, because to you the tree HAS fallen... you've accepted it on faith. ... sounds pretty blind to me. Since we don't know if the cat has been killed by the cyanide, it is both dead and alive, with either possiblity being equally valid.

howiepoohs
How do we know for a fact that we all havent only just this second come into existance, and everything in our memories has been implanted and interacts with others memeories? How do we know that the colour orange is the same colour orange seen from person to person? Just because we are told "This colour is called orange". What I see as orange, you may see as my purple, and so on. Perhaps this explains why we have favourite colours or foods? We all could also be part of the matrix, only hopefully a better version than films 2 and 3!
Guest c4evap
...and how come everyone always says "It tastes like chicken"? I think that's the bigger question here... c4 :cyclops:

I pick what I consider to be an orange pencil up. I ask you what colour you think the pencil is (assuming you don't lie), you answer orange. Then we can define what orange looks like. If you answer green, then one of us is colourblind/mad/lying/percieves reality in a different way and a third party is needed to resolve the question (and so on until we have a majority opinion on the colour of the colour). Therefore established reality is dependent on consensual agreement of those who observe and interact with it. or we all one sandwich short of a picnic. I think 'it tastes like chicken' is a phrase that moms use to get you to eat something you don't like, as most kids (and adults) love chicken esp. if its cooked by the colonel. :p
GorunNova
Thanks, but I'll have a nice poutine instead ^^... not healthy, but tasty as hell, and only tastes like chicken if that's the source of the gravy!
TheRenegade
Well I have been gone for a long time. However, this interested me. No, if a tree falls an no one is around, it does not make a noise. In order for the air molecules that have been moved to create a noise, there must be someone/something around to hear it. Unless there is, then no noise.

GorunNova
Just a quick question (my rebel, just woken-up fingers auto-typed 'wheatie' instead of 'question'... I give them too much freedom, methinks -_-')... what's with the importance of a sentient listener for sound to exist? It seems rather... egocentric on the part of sentient thinkers to think that the universe runs for their benefit, as opposed to on it's own for it's own sake... Guest c4evap
Right now thousands of trees are asking themselves questions about us and debating our worthiness to walk this planet. REMEMBER THE ENTS!!! c4 :cyclops:
