GhostShadow
This is a neat artical i found on the military page i always go to. It is about a new weapon. I think that it is interesting PHaSER
philly
Looks pretty cool even tho its a "non-lethal deterrent weapon" but im sure with a few mods it could be very destructive :P
wahaha
EDITED eh, they've had these for a while I think. They use green laser light to make you sick. It uses some strobe or motion function, keep you off balance or something like that. Been seen on COPS a few times, but don't think they're very effective. You can just close your eyes or wear oakleys for christ sake..
quosego
Time to get some sunglasses if you're planning a riot.. Don't know, can't they just make a real phaser... that's alot more fun...
TFMF
hmm...you have to think - this is another weapon - it is non-leathal... but not everyone will want to use the stun setting....a weapon like this could be VERY dangerous in the wrong hands.... but on a more possitive note - this sounds really cool!!! :)
Beawulf
I'd like to see it in action, anyone up for some rioting ;)

wahaha
Pulsing green light Neil Davison, another expert at Bradford University, says the situation in Iraq may encourage the US to push for the development of less-than-lethal laser weapons. "They already use bright white lights at vehicle checkpoints in Iraq to dazzle drivers who are approaching too fast," he says. Several commercial systems capable of temporarily dazzling a target exist. LE Systems, based in Connecticut, US, for example, makes the Laser Dazzler, which resembles an ordinary torch and emits a low power pulsing green laser light. The company says this device has been tested extensively and been shown to cause no lasting eye damage. The possibility of causing lasting eye damage can be reduced by diffusing the laser beam or rapidly moving it across the target with a series of mirrors. And the same US military research lab developed another laser weapon more than a decade ago, called the Sabre 203. This device attached beneath the barrel of a normal rifle and emitted a low-power laser light over a range of 300 metres. It was used by US forces in Somalia in 1995 but later shelved because of concerns over safety and effectiveness. http://www.newscientist.com/article.ns?id=dn8275
paniq
But aren't these just lasers? I suppose if they could fire off bolts (e.g. using some capacitor of sorts to store up the energy) then it could be more lethal?
Amnot Borg
The PHaSR was developed for providing a non-lethal method in crowd control and immobilizing attackers. It does this by shooting low-powered laser beams that induces a temporary blinding effect on targets - kinda like stepping out into the light after spending some time in the dark. The TASER XREP – the eXtended Range Electronic Projectile. XREP is a self-contained, wireless projectile that fires from a standard 12-gauge shotgun. It delivers the same Neuro-Muscular Incapacitation (NMI) bio-effect as our handheld TASER X26, but can be delivered to a distance of up to 100 feet, combining blunt impact with field proven TASER NMI. The phaser in science fiction, especially Star Trek, seems to combine elements of both and I wondered if they are mechanically trending that way or if they will tend to stay in similar but separate areas of defense. Any ideas? Does anyone think there could be a way to combine both into one hand-held device? The PHaSR is huge but the TASER XREP could be implemented into a hand gun, I think. Could the laser sight be modified into something similar to the PHaSR? Does it seem likely that a single weapon of shotgun size or pistol size will develop from these projects?
