VonHelton
Host: The most asked question for this chat is: JWolf: How do you feel about Enterprise being cancelled, and what were the reasons for the decision to cancel the show? I am a life long Star Trek fan as are many others and this is a total shock. Scott Bakula: Well, I'm disappointed, and everyone involved with the show is disappointed. Obviously we're all very emotionally attached to the show and we're all having a great time making the show. So you would like that kind of a situation to continue. Unfortunately we don't fit into UPN's business plan and really haven't for the last two and a half years. So that's a situation that's out of our control and ultimately has no reflection on our show or the quality of our show. Or the commmitment of all of our fans. It's hard not to take it personally, but in the end we got one more season than UPN wanted to give us, thanks to Garry Hart [President, Paramount Television Production], so we feel lucky about that. karimw786
Bakula is a true class-act. I hate that UPN doesn't realize that!
VonHelton
Bakula is a true class-act. I hate that UPN doesn't realize that! Backula doesn't come out & say it (in fact, he tries to say the opposite!) but it's clear he doesn't hold much hope of there ever being any Star Trek again. :(
daffydk
I disagree it is the end of the star trek. There will certainly be another show whether it is at UPN or some other channel. They would be fools to let this one go. Interesting that he said that he got one more season out of it. And what is UPN's "business plan" ? striker2063
UPN's business plan are reality shows en masse... It's all because of that reality shows, they are so popular... I hate them, I would rather see another season of enterprise than 100 seasons of "Big Brother" (if you know the show...) or "blah blah's next top model"... But finally it's all because of the people who see these kind of shows instead of challenging shows like Enterprise, where you have to think over the episode instead of voting per telephone, who has the biggest boobs... (sorry for my choice of words, but I'm really angry that ENTERPRISE has been cancelled)
VonHelton
I disagree it is the end of the star trek. "There really are no interested executives left at Paramount or UPN or CBS who would be willing to fight for the show. Everyone at Paramount who had history with the franchise is gone. So I wouldn't even know who to tell you to complain to, because there's not anyone who really is interested. We've fallen between the cracks in the changing of the guard." - Backula :stare:

But it doesnt mean Star Trek died. Everyone is making this as if this is a conspiracy against star trek. It is a pure game of numbers. IF it is not making them as much money, of course they will ax it. But as I said, if the fans return or there is a compelling story for star trek. Star Trek would come back with full force. Just like TNG came back after a disapointing TOS.

(sorry for my choice of words, but I'm really angry that ENTERPRISE has been cancelled) On behalve of the Dutch nation: Sorry about Big Brother (it was a dutch company that thought it up, and caused this reality tv mess... I, for one, never watched the d*mn Big Brother thing...) Another reason for choosing reality tv over ST:E is money... it is much cheaper to put a bunch of weirdo's in a container, lock it, and videotape it, then to make something truly creative. Even with the lower production values ST:E got for the fourth season it is very likely more expensive to make, than for instance "the road to bore^h^h^h^hstardom". MrEvil
Yeah, that's the problem with reality TV it has the same costs as a regular TV show (props, sets, crew) minus the salaries of the actors who are now schlubs who are desperate to win a quick million bucks. I hate to say it, but American Idol is about the only reality show with at least some entertainment value (I mean watching some of those retards that think they can sing like Sinatra is HILARIOUS!) madjo: Apology Accepted. xtremeskiing
I have this strange feeling we will see a trek series on spike. They already own every TOS, TNG, and DS9 episode. Not long before they take voyager and who knows. Like the slogen goes "TV for men", not TV for ditzy american idiots (i am american, i can say that). If not, i am sure to at lease see an enterprise movie. the people at UPN may think kevin hill is a better show, but paramount knows better. neverbob
UPN screwed up in several ways where Enterprise is concerned. They always put it against decent shows, first on Wednesday (yeah, I watch Smallville and Buffy, but they were my stooooories), then on Friday (Sci-Fi Friday - duh) with a repeat against Sunday's Fox lineup. In other words, always against shows that the same demographic seems to like. Almost like FOX, with Firefly. Any chance Sci-Fi would pick it up? I like what they've done with Stargate. vystral
I highly doubt this is the end to such a long-standing sci-fi dynasty. I'd say the chances for the next series to appear on UPN are minimal. Why not move it to the sci-fi channel? It'd be their crown jewel! But, how are they going to save it? plot-wise, I mean. I'd say the best idea is to make the next movie where the crap hits the fan and the Federation is brought to its knees. It can spawn a new series of rebuilding the once-great federation. That'd keep it interesting...
