kyran
pc is just another way of saying you have to think of other peoples feelings nothing wrong with that I think you people are misunderstanding what pc means
Tenebrae
No, Political Correctness has become synomous with pandering to the hypersensitive. If someone is fat, they should damn well be ready to get called fat. And why is it that every 15 minutes new and stupider terms need to be devised for people that aren't white? Can't we just call a spade a spade? Correctness is fine but political? GTFO.
That Fat Bloke
suppose its also necessary to call an unnecessarily abusive mofo exactly what they are:D
That Fat Bloke
i agree with chief carnifix' date=' you can't have a joke about minorities anymore, i remember a "not the nine o clock new" ep when they had a pop at the leader of iran, 2day tht would be slammed. the mohammed cartoons are just another example. As a musim i find them hilarious and appreciate the satire, TO the whole world do not believe the idiotic extremists who've used them as an excuse to burn and pillage. Also to the editor of the newspaper who originally commissend them, shame on you for apologisiing for u hve nothing to aplogise for.[/quote'] you may notice however that communication has improved (due to computers and associated technology) and that is the only thing that has changed. 20 years ago the majority of the Arab world would be unaware that someone is making jokes at their expense, and then there is also the political climate to think of. jhug666
Magestorm makes a good point, most of the gals at my school are either stocky or curvy (all are hot!!!) and have issues with thier weight. GODDAMIT when did logic fly out the window? most of the guys would sleep with them faster than you can say "jack russal" yet they still obsess about their weight. don't hide behind phrases , deal with it in the open thats one of the fundamentals of girls tho. a fine example bein the chic in the bar with a low cut top and short skirt who is gettin leered at by every guy in the bar. she doesnt like it and tho she can hardly expect much else bein dressed the way she is, she may not have done it for that reason. she simply likes the way the clothes make her feel when she wears them. i will not get in to the reasons why - i cannot profess to understand what all women think or feel but men do stuff for a similar reason. so next time you hear a girl complaining about her weight and she looks hot, its simply cos of the way she feels and NOT necessarily the way she looks. i think a lot of understanding women can come from that example, tho its probably unfair to generalise i will say that the example is applicable to everyone. peoples personalities are 100% made up by their feelings, therefore make decisions based on them and not necessarily the facts. if anyone is short of evidence on this point i will refer you to the quoted post above. if jhug666 thiks those chics are hot then he could make them FEEL better by telling them, unless he is makin a decision based on his own feelings ;) Most of the girls i'm refering to are my friends and YES i do tell them that they have nothing to worry about, it simply doesn't work!!! Howeverfor those of us in relationships i have found a way of assuring your partner/spouse that she is not overwieght. if she asks the question say that she is not overwieght and acompany it with an appropriate physicial gesture e.g. hug, kiss or even holding her hand will make her feel better. Belive me it makes more of a difference than simply saying "no your not overwieght" and burying you head in a newspaper or magazine still how do u convice a girl who is just a friend . please tell me if you know!! as "That Fat Bloke" said communication has changed in the last 20 odd years so the magazines that previously were obssesed with how peoples kitchins look now obsess over which female cleb is overweight, this feeds a media frenzy that makes a girl feel bad about her weight even though she is perfectly healthy. ps i'd like to thank That Fat Bloke, his post gave me a few pointers
motoxjesse
Ummmm, i do laugh at fat people.....but only if they do something funny, other then that i find no humor in the size of a person, so yeah, maybe if they fell or something and made a funny face while doing so? maybe

(no offence) are you not cool enough to say that or is your social standing below hers. are you not fashionable and therefore not possess the currency to trade feelings with her? are you unable to articulate your feelings in a way she can understand and feel a link to? is she simply NUTZ? answer some of the above questions and see what you can do to change the dynamic between the two of you to help her understand what you want to say. btw, if you think she fancies you and you are in a relationship.....let her suffer:D:D
magestorm
Well, many times, a woman gets to feeling overweight because man says she is. In the US, and a few other countries, we have something called Craigslist. Among other things, it is a place for singles to post ads. I have seen women post HWP, or hight/weight proportionate, both for themselves and what they are looking for. Is it just me, or does this seem like more political correct bull? I see those who advertise as a few extra pounds, bbw, and they seem to get few, if any replies. More often than not, they get ridiculed for being overweight. Is it just me, or has society gone nuts? Since when does a woman who is 5'10" and 180 pounds count as fat, overweight, or even a few extra pounds? I will admit, I am heavy. However, I have a big frame, and the extra weight I carry looks good. I have lost the weight before, as recommended by the AMA. I looked like death warmed over, and I was constantly getting sick. TetsuoShima
In case of doubt: http://www.halls.md/body-mass-index/bmi.htm. It isn't absolute, but it does give a fair indication... According to it for a woman age 28, 5'10" and 180 lbs: it indicates she is slightly 'overweight' (if you can call it that, since it is so little), but not so much that is troublesome... :) I don't think that she'd medically qualify as fat though... :) All these indications a very general anyway and are really just that: indications... As far as people's opinions are concerned however, there is no accounting for taste (and commercials for that matter), some like 'round' women, some like 'skinny' woman, some like in between.... Oh, and eh, everything abova can also be said about men btw... :)
magestorm
Last woman I was with who was in her BMI range for acceptable, I broke her :( So I go for the ones that are over the BMI. Less problems, and lower emergency room bills ;)
maverick
the world hasnt gone crazy. fashion has changed. remember the eighties? the guys were all muscled hunks and the chics were all voluptuous. media makes people feel inadequate. always something else to have, always someone else to be (in a sense) people may wind up aspiring to be things which arent real
vystral
There is a fine line between obese and muscular. Some chick that grew up on a farm throwing hay bails around can look just fine if she carries it well. And, since muscle weighs more than fat, her BMI can be out of whack. magestorm
tpeople may wind up aspiring to be things which arent real May? They are already doing it. You know how many times I have had friends tell me their sons or daughters are starving themselves, or wind up with an eating disorder? Or guys saying they don't want a girlfriend who is over 120 pounds? And people wonder why I don't rejoin society.

maverick
what i really think happens a lot is that people see something on tv or in the media and then i dealise their life in the image they just saw. they then acknowledge the feeling which goes along with the ideal and then..... chase that feeling. like you spend some of your time trying to make your life FEEL a certain way. anyhoo
of the Year
Well, some of my friends are more or less overweight, but I do not laugh AT them, I laugh WTIH them. Though I can get a little pissed if they want to go on a diet and they keep whining about it. then I jjust say that they shouldn't have ruined their body before some people are just born to complain. makes them feel safe, you know like they got a reason to hold themselves and it puts them in control of any abuse comin to them and makes em feel better. they should get a grip and slap anyone who doesntlike the way they are. you can only give som much understsanding before you stand your ground
magestorm
However, this causes problems when people chase after that ideal, and can never attain it.
garth
some call it middle age spread when you cut down on the exercise and keep eating the same, Do I laugh at fat people? naturally I have been able to laugh at myself for a long time way before I got fat :D
