ENT: fox news report

I am from the UK and I watch fox news because it is one of the most amusing TV shows I have found. The first time I saw it I thought it was a piss take off the days news in america.

Personally I'd rather choose which news org I watch/support rather than having a gun put to my head to pay for a Government run news org. God bless ya Europeans... always looking for a fair master.

That clip just reminded me of how much Fox sucks

not only do they push stupid stereotypes but all those silly graphics and sound effects just make it clear fox news isnt 'news' at all...its just glorified right wing hate radio on TV.

The irony is that the stereotype of 'kids in basements' was contradicted by the story itself which is about fans donating money. In reality the real problem is that Trek fans are too old. Trek no longer attracts enough young male viewers to keep it viable.

I have watched Outfoxed and its just another film created to prove a pre-determined point. I prefer hearing both sides of stories and Fox is the only news channel that is close to that. Of course if they express both sides someone can easily create film highlighting one side or the other. Namely a few posts back where sloany referred to Hannity saying "We have only 100 days left to re-elect president Bush" the film would just ignore Colmes's comment.

Personally I'll take a channel that shows both sides over others. If the news story is about Global warming I'd like to hear both sides of the argument. That never happens on the Alphabet networks. I like to make up my own mind about issues rather than being told what to think. Being a libertarian nearly all networks annoy me. But at least Fox has the decency to allow me to make my own informed decisions. I also appreciate not allowing guests to spue conjecture without any facts or truth to backup their claims.

And about Outfoxed... I could write you a small essay but a good representation of my thoughts are in this article from the WSJ RE: Outfoxed

I was wondering... do you think the irony you are referring to could be what was making Smith laugh? Do you know that Irony is often the seed of humor? The truth is a little ironic humor is just fine for me. I have come to terms with the fact that I am in a very small minority since I enjoy Star Trek and an even smaller minority since I would easily pay for more episodes.

Enjoy the Kool-Aid folks... it seems to serve your taste nicely.

A sidenote: That was a very interesting article. I especially loved two snippets:

And why not? The form, at least as it is practiced here, is perfect for the task. It favors emotion over logic, helped along by shrewd editing, manipulative music, clever graphics and gonzo stunts. For their creators, such documentaries allow for "reporting" without the messy business of fact-checking or the checks and balances of beat journalism. For the audience, they serve as, well, echo chambers.

..to nestle together in easy confirmation of their most cherished beliefs--to learn, really, what they already know.

The funny thing is that that is just what is being held against Fox as both sides as always preach to the converted, but it is your time and I don't want to limit your freedom of choice of sources for facts.

Toronto Star article on fans

I found some interesting facts in this article like the SciFi-fans gender ratio and the female networking that partly was the success behind the rescue of Farscape.

Personally I watch Fox News for real news coverage.

Fox also tells the truth. TrekUnited is a bunch of geeks in a nearly impossible fight to save a dead show. I have donated. I am a Trek Geek. Sometimes it just hurts to hear the truth...

Oh and the "We have only 100 days left to re-elect president Bush" comment is pretty lame. Maybe you should actually watch a channel before you bash it. In context that quote is when Hannity comes back from a break... when Comes came back from a break it was the same quote but with John Kerry as the victor. Get a live and a brain please.

hmmm i have to stick up to my fellow dutchman, get a live and a brain aren't very nice comments about someone...... respect is the keyword in this forum.... not making lame comments.

I believe that it was a long time a go that news channels showed both sides. Including Fox news.... even now it's all about propaganda, hitler was good at it so is bush (yes, i'm comparing hitler with bush).... the masses are easily convinced, just find someone with autority and the masses will follow. Just make sure you question everything and ask questions.

There is virtually no "liberal media" in the USA. Almost all media outlets in the US are contrist, centre-right, or hard right (like Fox).

The bad thing about Fox is that they lie a lot. A LOT. It's entertainment, folks, not the news.

I agree for the most part. I find it important to read your news on a number of different websites, both domestic and international, in order to get a better well-rounded idea of the real news.

wasn't fox news that same crappy news channel that said prematurely that bush had won the first time.... that says enough about the quality, and the value of them.

they could have brought it somewhat let's say professional.... i'm in the attic not the basement, it's all about details. :P

Not only was it Fox "News" (News is to Fox as beauty is to a platypus or peaceful non-violence cooperation to a Klingon), but it was specifically George W. Bush's COUSIN, calling George W. Bush's Brother's state.

Does anyone take Fox seriously? I've never heard anyone say anything good about this channel.

Aside from Sheppard Smith blasting us Trek Fans, Fox is good for a different opinion.

Most of the media in the USA is "Liberal"......Some even border on socialism & communism.

Where are all those great socialist and communist newscasts on major network TV? If I could find one, I'd watch it, even if just for laughs.

No, the news media is no more liberal than the mega corporations that own it! B)

I don't like Fox news at all either. Some of their shows tho - Simpsons, Family Guy, American Idol are good.

Their news is really bad though. I usually go with NY times and MSBNC.

Hmm, what exactly is a nerd or a geek?

Is a nerd someone who likes science fiction?

So all the science fiction fans of the world are either nerds or geeks?

why can't a normal guy simply like some sci-fi shows (or even have sci-fi as his fav genre)without getting that label??

1. The media insists that conservatives are "radicals".

2. Republicans are accused of stealing money from the elderly.

3. 60 Minutes tries to trash Bush's military service.

4. If you have religious conviction, you are "intolerant".

I could go on, but I think I made my point. On the street, CNN is called the "Communist News Network".

.....It's called that for a reason.

A "nerd" or "geek" is somebody you harrass in high school and call "boss" or "sir" later in life ...

1. The media insists that conservatives are "radicals".

That's generally IndyMedia.org or Pacifica.org. Most media (TV & print) regularly run conservative commentators and op-ed pieces. Of course, you won't find that in The Nation or Mother Jones ... but they're not what we were talking about.

2. Republicans are accused of stealing money from the elderly.

Even NPR does a balanced job on this. Geez! What are you listening to, Air America & The Awful Truth? Every day last week, social security reform was brought up on both NPR and PRI. And every instance gave at least as much time to Republicans as to Democrats. The reports drew no conclusions. Even when stories were about the "grass roots" organization that sponsored Swift Boat Veterans for "Truth" and is currently calling the AARP a pro-homosexual lobby in their commercials, Republicans were given equal time to speak their message.

3. 60 Minutes tries to trash Bush's military service.

Got me there. They ran with an unsubstantiated story. Bad reporting. Bad media. No banana.

Nevertheless, President Bush trashed his own military service by his behavior at the time. He didn't take it seriously. He didn't show up for appointments. He leapfrogged over 500 applicants to get cushy Air National Guard duty, when he would otherwise have been sent to 'Nam, had his family not had connections. That's not CBS or 60 Minutes. That is established fact and has never been refuted. The only question still open is whether or not he did his "duty" in Alabama (or wherever he got transferred so he could work on a Republican political campaign).

4. If you have religious conviction, you are "intolerant".

Again, not on mainstream media. There's been a lot of interesting discussion of "values voting." On my blog I've ripped the so-called "values voters" a new one and pointed out that their behavior has got nothing to do with the Christianity of Jesus, but merely serves an agenda which their "Lord" would have immediately denounced. But my blog isn't news media. It's just an opportunity to vent.

I could go on, but I think I made my point.

On the contrary, I don't think you have.

On the street, CNN is called the "Communist News Network".

Yeah ... just like sophomoric bloggers refer to anybody who doesn't take a Republican party line as "barking moonbats" or "idiotarians." CNN is right of center. To get anywhere near centrist reporting on TV one has to watch the BBC. When I got tired of the local radical rhetoric on KPFK (Pacifica Broadcasting), I'd tune in to a station that carried BBC World News and get far more balanced coverage than I could get from KPFK (doctrinaire left & sloppy) or NPR (no longer balanced, but tipped in favor of spouting Bushisms and covering Iraq from a much more pro-Republican viewpoint than was merited). Only BBC seemed to come anywhere near disclosing what was going on.

And no, I don't watch Al-Jezeera, although I found the movie Control Room utterly fascinating.

As Lewis Black said, Fox has a good thing going. They offend people with their shows on their network stations then interview the outraged people on Fox News. :p

Oh, and yes, I was offended. I'm a VP of a bank with a wife and two children. I have friends who are Trek fans that also professionals and very intelligent people. The notion that Trek fans are basement-dwelling "geeks" is outrageous.

Wait......Is this the same BBC that blasted America for putting down Saddam, a man bent on genocide? Or the same BBC that said Afghanista would never be free? Or that Iraq would never have elections?

:stare: :stare: :stare:

I used to watch IPN World News & Deutsche Welt, but they went far to the left, so I stopped.
