  1. No... but without the writers, there is nothing to gamble on. Besides, shouldn't writers get some of that money if the gamble pays out? You can bet that without a union, the writers would get squat. That's why there are unions in the first place... to keep people from getting exploited and discarded. Ulysses: As for the website thing... did you make the website? Were you paid for designing it? If not, your argument doesn't hold. These people wrote the words the actors speak, and created the scenes that the actors eventually play out. They deserve some credit and compensation for that if those scenes and settings earn money. ARE writers really as interchangeable as Chiggy suggests? Would a show be the same if it were written by entirely different people? Besides... it's not as if the writers make anywhere near as much as many actors do even with the union. Would the new Battlestar Galactica be the same if Ronald D. Moore had been ditched in favor for some other writer, for instance?
  2. It isn't only 'old writers' that are in it. I'd rather have an annoying union that occasionally goes on strike for possibly less than good reasons then have writers get screwed over by big media conglomerates. I can see where the writers are coming from here... if the people they write for are getting a profit from online media they wrote and the like, it's only reasonable that they get a portion of that profit... it IS their work that the companies are making a profit off of, after all. Also, non members can register their scripts with either the west or east guild for protection, so it's not as if they're useless to non-guild members.
  3. I hate to say this... but I have to both agree with Tetsuo and also say that this was the best episode so far this season, imho. So far, it seems that season 1 was better, even with the terrible, terrible episode 2 and overall mediocrity. -_-' Still... worm steaks, anyone? ^^
  4. i.e. you want us to help you get a free Wii by clicking on that link and joining the site. Pyramid schemes are wonderful.
  5. It was... bleah. Sure, there were a few good two liners in there, but mostly it was pretty cliche and flat. I seriously think that someone used permanent press on Torchwood's characters during the break, and they weren't too deep to begin with. -_-' ... and did I miss Gwen and Jack getting together last season? Then again, the relationships in that show flip around like mad. I wouldn't be surprised if Owen and Jack were paired up at some point... and that's ridiculous. *sigh* ... if the rest of this season's gonna be like this, I'm not going to waste my time watching it... and I'm a guy who usually tries to watch everything Dr. Who related. ^^'
  6. XD!... "YOU KNOW I AM RIGHT BECAUSE MY NAME IS... DAAAALEK!" *glint* ... which makes me wonder what would be doing the glinting... "Bannakaffalatta... sad! Bannakaffalatta make frowny face, see? :("
  7. There's one thing I have to say about this special: Plot Device Overload! ... not one noble sacrifice... no, that wouldn't be enough! They needed THREE (or four, if you include the shooting of the midshipman). Dramatic face shots? Tons! Music cues followed by dramatic slowdowns? At least two. The spiny headed guy was ridiculous, really... more than a little cheesy... as was Max. ;p On the bright side, it was a hilarious spoof... of something. Very funny, and just serious enough to keep from falling over the side to pure comedy. ^^
  8. From my past experiences of notices from the Sun, you'd need a grain of salt the size of Jupiter to swallow anything they spout. -_-' Any accuracy on their part is purely coincidence. Seriously... if they claimed the sky is blue, I'd have to double-check.
  9. I'd say that means that if he goes to this new, changed future... he may find A Caitlin, but it probably won't be HIS Caitlin. She may even remember him and love him... but she will probably be remembering an alternate Peter. ... but, given how they tend to portray time and characters in this series, I'm betting she WILL be his Caitlin, and she will hate him. Edit: That is, of course, assuming that they even write her back in at all. The best way to end a romantic plotline is to remove one of the two involved... and they WERE saying that "romance really wasn't their thing"...
  10. As I said, stupid pills. No, let's not ask nice, altruistic Hiro why he might want to do something so harsh as kill Adam... just assume he's bad and fling him around! Aaaand... hiatus until more stuff is done! Writer's Guild strike aftermath, ho! (still, it IS nice to see that the often abused writers have a strong pair of unions.) Edit: On the other hand... Hiro knew Adam was trying to spread the disease, and the first reason he gives to Peter? "He killed my father, so he has to die!" ... personal vengeance vs. saving the world? Yeah, I can see why Peter didn't listen to him. Still, you'd think Peter would know better. Adam: "Whoops! I just killed another person when I could have disabled or knocked them out! Tee hee!" Peter: "Duhhh... okay... just don't do it a fifth time!"
  11. Heh... that wouldn't have worked anyways. If Adam was brought back and died, it wouldn't be a time loop... Adam would have simply died back then. Time loops require repetition, and that would have simply been a termination. If Adam was brought back and lived through the explosion, that would result in TWO Adams, a younger surviving one and the older one brought back in time, and something tells me that's an outcome Hiro wouldn't really want. Burying him alive, though, would result in quite a long term amount of punishment... but was rather stupid, as there's always a chance of him getting out / making enough noise for mortuary workers to hear and dig him up / whatever.
  12. Is it my imagination, or is everyone other than (possibly) Sylar starting to take stupid pills? -_-'... Episode 10 has made me realize that this season, some shallowing of characters has been going on... As for the showdown, I don't think Peter really wants to strike down Hiro. Although a complete stranger saying bad things about Adam probably won't faze Peter's support, when a trustworthy guy like Hiro speaks up... I think Peter's hesitation may speak of a little curiousity. ... either that, or they'll pull a little next-episode retcon and have that nice long charge drastically cut short.
  13. QFT. RAM's more useful being used caching, or running programs... not being eaten up by a big brick called 'operating system bloat'. No reasonable operating system should have THAT much overhead.
  14. I don't know about that... I keep hearing people talking about YouTube videos in public, which at least means that the average joe knows about (and uses!) YouTube... and I'm talking people ranging from teenagers to 60 year olds. I can believe those numbers. ^^
  15. I didn't think this season was bad... but maybe I have an unusual tolerance for gradual series of events. ^^' *has an attention span longer than that of a fruitfly...*
  16. I basically use all-caps in exactly the same way I'd use italics... for emphasis. Mind you, thanks to the fact that we can post with italics, using all caps is probably a bad habit... I usually do use caps for emphasis in chats, because sometimes text formatting can be wonky on chat clients... especially when both sides aren't using the same client. Italics formatting might get dropped, but capital letters definitely will remain. ^^ Edit: Under no circumstance will I type in all caps, though. That's incredibly annoying... well, unless I'm implying I'm shouting at the top of my lungs. ^^
  17. "Rose coloured glasses and naiiveness... ON!" :p
  18. -_-'... damn. You're right. My bad. ^^'
  19. I knew Adam was Hiro's dad's killer long before that episode... it wasn't exactly a surprise, once Adam's long-livedness came into play. Given Bob drained off some of her blood, and subsequently Noah came back to life... the connection is rather strongly implied, and obviously Claire's power is the same as Adam's, much in the same way as Matt's are like his father's... Methinks Noah is going to see a little bit of torture going on in the near future, as is Mohinder (although that would be self inflicted). ... you'd think that Matt would know better than to turn Molly into a mind slave even briefly. The comparison to his father seems more than a little warranted at this point. The question remains, though... did he go that far, and push Nathan's mother into revealing the woman's name / whereabouts? I'm going to give him the benefit of the doubt at this point and say that he didn't. Somehow, I don't think Sylar will seem quite so bad later in the season... after all, he was blatantly evil with no good intentions in his power gathering right from the start. To be honest, though... Angela isn't exactly undeserving of a little pushing around. As for Mohinder being in the dark... that's been his almost permanent state this whole season, imho. Caitlin: "You can come get me any time now, Peter..."
  20. *continues* (not that I didn't read what you said, Tenebrae. ^^) ... then again, you can't let OTHER people sniff your packets with the intent of making an emulator because then YOU'RE allowing reverse engineering of your copy, breaking the EULA, making it illegal... Geez, what a nest of complications. No, I'm pretty much certain that server emulators are illegal. It's not like making, say, console emulators. Those have a special loophole... they are developed by reverse engineering what the software thinks is the hardware. It's not reverse engineering the hardware directly (hence avoiding any hardware manufacturer reverse engineering issues), and it's not reverse engineering the software's data or code... so it's pretty much safe, legally... and it drives game companies nuts. ^^ Edit: And with that, I is a little off topic, as I already added my opinion on the matter up there. Why don't more MMOs use the 'game shop' method of revenue gathering, as it has obviously proved to be a working model in more than one MMO?
  21. Well... there IS the point that reverse engineering is a violation of pretty much any EULA out there, and all server emulators are effectively reverse engineering the network code and data formats, if nothing else (well, unless the server emulator has it's own custom data made from scratch, that is.) Edit: Then again... as long as the reverse engineering was done without actually using a bought copy of the game to do that reverse engineering, I think it's legal. If the server emulator was made purely with a packet sniffer on other peoples' data and user-made data without any use of a game disc / installed copy of the game, I believe that's legal.
  22. The crate WAS for smuggling Adam and Peter (or at least Peter) away... so it probably would be better to say it was shipping something relatively lightweight like 'iPods' rather than be honest and say 'human(s)'. As for DL... well, it sort of underlines the fact that these people may have powers, but they're still human. DL was probably too surprised to phase, and it's too late after the damage is already done. It does explain how Niki got so trusting of the Company and Bob, though. Given what Adam said, it's pretty obvious he's four hundred years old. His power could possibly be quite a lot different from Claire's. Somehow I doubt a few drops of HER blood would totally regenerate some (relatively) average Joe. ^^
  23. I'm wondering if Claire is -related- to Adam... after all, Adam's been around for a while, and may have had an affair with Nathan / Peter's mom 'back in the day'...
  24. I'm betting that what happened in that future is that they infected Claire in the hopes of saving Nikki, and her uber regeneration resulted in an uber adapted future virus strain that kills off everyone. After all, if it can overcome / survive in her body, what chance do non-regenerators have? I wouldn't be surprised if the solution to that problem turns out to be letting Nikki die.
  25. 10/10 because it's Day of the Tentacle related.
