  1. I've posted more in the last few days than since I signed up. More bandwidth and time available? Oh well, I planned on reading these things one day anyway. Why not now? Let the communities write! ...and thanks Elessar, for the Monty Python references... LOL
  2. I googled it and found the pic of her with pigtails and the schoolgirl outfit. She grew up very nicely in all the right places. http://www.probertencyclopaedia.com/j/Brittney%20Irvin.jpg does load but if it doesn't, search the list.
  3. Me too! Of course I was only 12 at the time. ;) Actually, I've always thought 80 was aimed at kids instead of adults. Plots were more like morning cartoons than tv.
  4. I agree. If they come up with interesting storylines, why not keep it on for a long while?
  5. You are welcome, I just googled "Goa 'uld Queen Mother reproduction" and found it. The research they did seems to indicate that Queens hosts could be male or female since the gastrointestinal tract would actually hold the offspring not the hosts sex organs... They really went wild researching it based on comments from the series.
  6. Most currently in the news has been the bashing of Muslim faith with European cartoons of their Prophet. I, personally see it as "in bad taste" cartooning instead of drastic anti-Muslim propaganda. However, the three main western religions(Islam, Christianity, Judaism) have a very long history of bashing each other and any other religions that attempt to compete with them. Being of a somewhat pagan belief structure myself, I see both sides and wonder why people are killing themselves and others over cartoons instead of bitching about them being in bad taste. *now, back to the ORI portion of the topic* from what I have seen of them this season since they were introduced, it definitely seems to be an intentional parable of the writers to get people thinking of how ALL or MOST modern people think of religion and relate to it without regard to others ideas of religion. As you said, Dish, we need to agree to disagree and stop with all the sword waving. As GorunNova said, there are reasons to bash beliefs and it's to test them and see if they are viable or not. That doesn't mean you have to actually start bashing people as well as ideas or beliefs. As S0V13T mentioned, there are similarities to Christianity's past of persecution included in the ORI makeup but I assume it hasn't been the only religion to do that. Jews seem to have had it rough wherever they went. *darnit, I went back to the real world* So far, no one has flamed anyone and I do hope it doesn't come to that. Open minds and discussions open windows of possibilities.
  7. In the episode with the Tok'Ra Queen Mother and the tretonin, she was huge so I always wondered how she could take a host or how any Queen could take a host since they are supposed to wrap around the spinal cord. Anyway, this site should offer some ideas. I found it interesting and they researched much deeper than I wanted to about Queen Mother reproduction.
  8. Vaginas? I thought he meant "virgins". I wondered why they'd mention them at all. Edit: *The above tasteless comment was only for humor purposes. No harm was intended to the topic or the topic creator.* Oh yeah, I really wanna see the movie. Milla is so frakking HOT! I read she worked her butt off to bulk up to do her fight scenes. She really must have liked the movie.
  9. Very funny series. Available on PBS around the states. I get to watch it on saturday nights. The actress playing Mrs. Sunday(Thermoman) is HOT.
  10. Very funny. Galactica "80" was horrible unless you viewed it as something for children. The new series, well. If it was taking place concurrently with us right now, then the name MIGHT work. If it was happening earlier or later than now, it would have a different theme and probably be a lot more interesting. Imagine different times and places in the past where the fleet would have to influence Earth history to get us to the level of technology they have in order to fight the Cylons. If they made contact in the future, would we be able to help or still be squabbling among ourselves?
  11. An interesting idea that I have seen online is embedded advertising which would appear on the videos just like the network symbols shown onscreen. They take up little room but are definitely noticed despite no harm to the viewing of the program. Advertisers could still pay for the programming and we could still download programs and the MPAA would suffer no loss of income. Heck, advertising would become international through internet swaps. Multi-National companies would be the perfect advertisers. The site discussing this idea is http://www.mindjack.com/feature/piracy051305.html (Piracy is Good? How Battlestar Galactica Killed Broadcast TV) by Mark Pesce "Consider Battlestar Galactica. A few weeks before the series premiered on television, I sat down to watch the 13 episodes of the first season, all of which I'd found on BitTorrent. Somewhere around the second or third episode I became briefly aware of the "bug," the smallish, semi-transparent station ID which has become the constant on-screen companion to all television broadcasts. I was looking at the bug for SkyOne, the British satellite broadcaster, which nestled comfortably in the upper left-hand corner of the screen. I noted the bug, then proceeded to ignore it. But it never went away. In episode after episode, the bug remained, a tattoo commemorating the trip from broadcaster to audience. Somewhere around episode seven, it hit me like a ton of bricks: I was looking at the most valuable and most underutilized piece of real estate in the world. The bug carried the station ID  which is fine if I'm in the UK. But in Australia SkyOne has no meaning at all. So that message, which should be full of meaning  full of "payload"  has been utterly misspent. It's as if they took the finest piece of land in Sydney Harbour, say where the Opera House resides, and decided to use it as depot for broken trains. That screen real estate has real value, because it commands the audience's attention, constantly if subconsciously. What if, instead of carrying the broadcaster's station ID, the bug contained an advertiser's payload? I decided I wanted to see what that might look like, so I took an episode of Desperate Housewives and ran a little test, using the logo of one of Australia's best known retailers, Myer. I placed the advertiser's bug in the lower left-hand corner. This is probably sufficient for a well-known retailer like Myer (or Macy's or Harrod's, etc.): it's simply enough to remind the public that they exist - and that there's undoubtedly a sale on. While I thought I was being truly innovative in my thinking, I was wholly wrong. On a recent Friday evening I sat and watched a rugby match: to my astonishment, I found that a commercial broadcasters had already adopted this technique. When the game went into an instant replay, the icon of an Australian liquor distiller Bundaberg Rum did a little dance in the upper left-hand corner of the screen. This means that the technique is already in use, and advertisers understand its value. That's a very important point: advertisers are ready for this. "
  12. Seriously, do I have to explain mine? When I found this place I needed a name real quick. This is a Star Trek/scifi forum and I Am Not Borg.
  13. What can I say? This episode revived my waining interest in this series. Plots were getting boring until this twisted mirror universe thing came along. Caprica-6 and Sharon-shooter have both learned to love humans and reject the idea of killing them. That makes them much more "human" than the other Cylons IMO. ...seeking Earth seems to be part of the experiment if there is one. Although, this season, the fleet seems to be just wandering through space without mention of heading to Earth. Last season the Cylons were definitely interested in the possibility of finding more humans. Plot directions just seemed to be aimless this year. I'm really glad they added something interesting back into the storyline. I'm excited about BSG again! :) YAY
  14. Seems to me, the writers should have included something about how the Ancient's technology would apply a local language to any gate traveler's mind if the equipment was working perfectly. Although, the Ancient's were so smart they might not have needed translators. Or, the only places Ancient's would go spoke the same language and it only became a problem after they were gone and the newer races started using the gates. Whatever, it's still a great series based on a fantastic movie.
  15. I've been kind of wondering if the ORI appearance this season isn't just a new villain but a way for the writers to present views about the effect of religious intolerance in the modern world. It seems to be on the increase lately and this does get people to think about it. Forcing your own views on others isn't going to make your views accepted on friendly terms. Anyone have comments? Are the ORI just villains or a parable story to teach us? Is this the wrong forum area for a discussion such as this? It is based on thoughts about the ORI.
  16. How can he help it? After he was introduced to the reality of aliens and alien technology in the Antartic, he was offered a position as SG-1 commander, allowed to read all that the prior SG-1 team had done for Earth and he wanted to be part of it but the original members were ALL scattered. Wannabe describes him perfectly. He wanted the gang together so they could show him what it was like out there. He was like a little kid following his older friends into a candy store but then left alone with no clue where the best candy was located or how to get to it. He needed the team. We the fans, needed the team or the show would lose its charisma... I'm kind of wondering if the ORI appearance isn't just a new villain but a way for the writers to present views about the effect of religious intolerance in the modern world. It seems to be on the increase lately and this does get people to think about it. Forcing your own views on others isn't going to make your views accepted on friendly terms. Sorry, serious things on my mind lately. Should I make a new topic for this?
  17. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Stargate_Atlantis_episodes#Season_3 lists several episodes and IMO season three will probably be shown in the summer and winter seasons.
  18. I agree, most newly adult Goa' uld serve the System Lords/Ladies and wait for a chance to gain power or are eaten in ceremonies at Council meetings. The Lords are sort of thumbing their noses at lesser Goa' uld by proving how tough they are by eating the Goa' uld with no hosts...
  19. Isn't it more likely that humans built pyramids and kept religions based on what they saw of the Goa' uld's ships/rulers instead of the other way around? People imitated their so-called gods. Where the Goa' uld originally got the ideas for pyramids and their names most likely came from a culture that we of Earth haven't heard of yet... ...and in Season 1 Episode 21 - Within The Serpent's Grasp, Klorel/Skaara told SG-1, he was really Apophis's son because Apophis had seeded the Queen Mother and chosen his host for him. "Apophis gave me life." - Klorel ...sounds like Apophis was a male of some sort or at least fulfilled the same function.
  20. 1) The Q are cool but way to much like the Ancients with their rules for all of us "lower" beings. 2) Vulcans and Romulans are still pretty much the same species. Different philosphical viewpoints, though. 3) Any species with warp drive or time travel would be interesting.
  21. Well, all I can say is that if the Matrix has us... Couldn't we get better entertainment on our battery network? Hello, Matrix HQ, it's boring without Star Trek on tv any more...
  22. Cool, so cool... I became addicted to white chocolate watching those white mouse eating scenes back then... The series did get so damn silly though compared to the mini-series...
  23. The series budget was the main problem. The cast stayed pretty much the same but the plots were silly and the special effects weren't as good. It went from a scifi drama to a scifi comedy, IMO. Edit.... The show did get me hooked on white chocolate. LOL. The mice the visitors ate were made out of it.
  24. Yes, ABC's Prey was really good and had potential. At least, the actors got other jobs later when ABC killed the show on a cliffhanger... Debra Messing(Sloan Parker) moved on to Will & Grace. Vincent Ventresca(Ed Tate) moved on to The Invisible Man on SciFi channel. Adam Storke(Tom Daniels) keeps working in series and films.
