  1. no way would picard be the best! he might be a better leader or politician but as an intergalactic leader he would be boring. kirk would rule and it would be entertaining too --ing right!

    No armour?

there is mention of "personal shields" in season 4 eps 11 and 12 (homefront and paradise lost) of DS9. the idea is not explored but it seems that they do exist. btw, exterus i like your philosophy dude. almost along the lines of, make love not war:D:D
  3. perhaps, but i like funding the odd discontinuity and i like nitpicking. its in the job description for a trekkie!:D im not opposed to innovation but something convicingly new and entertaining need to be thought of. the show was gettin old .....and please dont let some cruise singer do the soundtrack this time!!!
  4. Tapestry!! classic. Q "is there a Gene Luck Pickard here??"

    No armour?

energy shields against energy weapons would have made sense. a la DUNE and also demonstrated by the borg. again tho, a species bred for war; the jem haddar didnt have any either. surprising. i also acknowledge the jem haddar were bred as cannon fodder but it would have made warriors more effective and battles won quicker
  6. too right, the welsh accent ISNT all that heroic:D i love the standards. there are some songs that should only be sung by certain singers. e.g. moon river never sounded so good as when it was sung by louis armstrong
  7. TNG: Pegasus - i love seein the slightly darker side of peoples characters DS9: in the pale moonlight - it not a perfect world:D Voyager: The Final Ep - could start a debate
  8. chakotay who? his charcter didnt DO anything. apart from samaritans in space. rikers stories were better then most and picard was a better captain.
  9. we are the starfleet bottom inspectors.
  10. so its "practicality over principle" whatever solves the problem rather than what is right. i think everyone knows form personal experience that a certain amount is right but where should one stop?
  11. picard: idealist sisko: realist
  12. for me the better starfleet officer is picard but i find myself wondering how the dominion invasion would have been managed by picard had he been in command of DS9. the prime directive as with many other rules are open to interpretation, in their application. what comes out is the values of the man when each different one applies those rules. each captain was given jobs to do and did them the each saw fit. i wonder which i would have preferred (and by that i mean, ehich would i have grown with as an individual and an officer or whatever) to serve under. it'd be a tough decision.
  13. i'd rather die fighting than fight dying me its not the action its the intent me stop mumbling complaints and open your throat:D me
  14. as a starfleet officer: picard asa a man: sisko (if you want to evaluate how good a man is, look at what motivates him) but just as a comparison - who was the better writer of music? beethoven or van halen?
  15. ta! my connection is really slow today - like 2-3 mins to up a post. BAD it wasnt my intention to make the thread about DS9, i understand the purpose of it but it was easier to attach principles to a situation which i know most - if not all - are aware of and discuss the rule in general rather than the specifics.
  16. i wasnt disputing that it didnt. but i had a feeling thats where TFMF got it from. i know he is a big DS9 fan. i disagree. if not for the bunch that were playin dirty tricks then it is possible that the federation would not have survived. it is also possible to argue that we cannot be sure that would not have survived but.......basically if one side is tryin to use dirty tricks on you, then you gotta have someone around who understands the game they play and try and stop em. at the end of the day, your opponent MAY be doin somethin wrong (and only by your standards) but what you gonna do about it when theyre done?? call the referee and say "thats not nice OR fair. i want a re-match. life doesnt work like that. mutual trust is the only way out of a situation like that. and in the real world it takes a lot to earn it and more effort to keep it. TRUST
  17. during the current iraq occupation the britsh news paper describe the actions of british soldiers as barbaric fo doing something called "clearing ground". this is the act of firing two rounds in to a body which appears to be dead to ensure it is dead and is not an enemy soldier pretending to be dead and ambush the "good guys". war is war and not a lot has changed in the last couple of thousand years except for the ability to communicate and that individuals are more accountable for their actions due to improved communications - though this is in doubt too. for laws to apply you must have a group of people who by choice or by citizenship agree to abide by those laws and will be punished if they do not abide by those laws - retributive justice. during war time your enemy is not expected to abide by these laws and is able to do anything to win a war, whereas the "Good Guys" are bound by a code of conduct which ties their hands. the quote TFMF used was from season 7 of DS9 - which i actually watched yesterday (well, i had a trek fest and watched ep 10 through to ep 22 - aaaah student life) and i believe that the world does need individuals like sloane. while his existence may be seen as grotesque by some, I think it is necessary. freedom cannot be preserved by the idealists, who with the best intention in the world, cling to their belief in what is right. what difference does it make if you die a pointless death and your ideal goes unheard and unrealised. as the discussion encompasses DS9, kira is a good example of someone who was prepared to fight for a greater good. an individual who was aware of an ideal and fought to preserve the right of others to experience that ideal even if she struggled to live BY that ideal. perhaps TFMF's next question should be what is "a greater good?", and "what justifies actions like those of Section31?" if you can change human nature, you will find peace.
  18. I like goat meat. "Exterminate! Exterminate!" (munch, munch, munch) I believe this is known as, 'getting your goat.' :cyclops: ho ho ho. very good dude ;)
  19. (i love the story and miss mr benn, but its a toughie to follow)
  20. perhaps until the goat gets hungry again:D:D:D:D:D
  21. hey msg4real, if yu dont wanna be insulted, abused, laughed at, ridiculed or keel hauled (which could be quite funny) DONT PUT YOURSELF IN A POSITION WHER YOU CAN BE> if you consider other peoples feelings before you say something it doesnt always mean changing what you think, just the way you say it, and then, guess what, you dont need other peoples permission to do anything. the only reason this situation has gone on so long is because you have let it.
  22. i agree, people do seem to forget about it but if we can all post pics whenever it will die out through boredom and familiarity very fast. a suggestion to add to what you said may be to have a fixed day every week where one person or a mod judges the comp and pm's the winner to put up another pic. also another idea to gain participation would be to pin it in all the rooms. get a little more variation as not everyone on the board comes in to mos eisley. (wufters)
  23. i have sharks for breakfast:D
  24. picked up instuments and started playing la bamba and passing the tequila around. just then guinan got off the turbo-lift and all the salamis suddenly looked past their sell by date. "what is it" yelled janeway, clearly unfulfilled at this early juncture in the party guinan said "......................."
  25. gel pack thingies, which may or may not have appeared to be good lubricant. Fleet Admiral NITESHADW (in capitals which were spelt out on the view screen) stood front and centre and announced his ascendance to leader of the world (earth) as a shipwide announcement. "Shatner - Kirk! whatever your name is." "youre fired, go jump out of an airlock." "janeway, he said commandingly get over here immediatlely and computer," he bellowed, "play some lambada." "you there crewman ...?" "edgar styles" stammerd the crewman, "just transferred i from the uss 24 after bein given the wrong colour shirt" "crewman styles skin up a ......"
