    Borg Origin...

Yes I very much agree. Oh.. sorry I thought you were talking about something else...
  2. I have a grand total of eleven most of which are a result of being told to discuss nefarious activities in private. Sort of like getting a private room in a stripclub yet utterly different at the same time.
  3. Don't forget the bit byte distinction. 10 Mb down, rarely reaches that. I swear I got a letter from NTl saying they were going to double it but it never happened. Although I did once hit a consistent 1200Kb/s but that may have been a bad software calculation. Most I've pulled is 4gb in one hour, straight off servers. Drool.
  4. She seems to only be a few years younger tham my mother and yes she is actually hotter now which is quite disturbing. I never found her attractive in TNG. Its something you could never put your finger on, so to speak. Everything was there, it just failed to add up to anything whatsoever. Crusher on the other hand somehow managed to be much more attractive, despite all the odds and that whole gin stinking widow with a kid thing she had going on.

    Borg Origin...

I think Shatner was always into the logical idea of suggesting a link between the borg and V'ger, yet most canonical writers want to avoid any return to the mythos of the first film as it is commonly regarded as a stinking pile of droppings. Shame maybe.
  6. Awsome. They could even get a chronically depressed monkey in a robot dog costume to celebrate the original.
  7. 'We have always known that Ron and David had a plan for ‘Galactica’ and trust that fans can look forward to a truly amazing final season,” stated Mark Stern, Executive Vice President of Original Programming, SCI FI.' Really??? I thought they were just making it up as they went along! It certainly watches like that. I'm not sure how well I'll be able to cope in a post Battlestar environment. It just seems unbearable. On the other hand, with all those rather pointless filler episodes this season, it seems better to give it a decent send off. I still think they could get at least six good whole years out of it. Look at the original, it got most interesting half way through when they stopped using the sylons every week. Arguably.
  8. Yeh. However the idea of running 2 computers seems a bit excessive.
  9. I've been interested in getting one of these all in one digital tuner/dvd recorder/ hdd recorder/ HDMI devices in the interests of watching/archiving TV and cutting out the dodgy composite video analog element you get with dvd recorder/freeview box set up. Oh yeh, the disadvantage of just capturing everything on the digital tuner on the PC is that using any other app disrupts the recording etc. But it occurs to me that most of the features are unnecesary, when all you really want is a standard digital tuner PVR that you can also use as an external hardrive to archive off/edit via PC and watch in decent quality via the computer. I know that generally PVR's use some batty file system that is not NTFS or FAT32 and cannot be read by PC. But has anyone seen anything like this? I'd pay good money!
  10. They should have compromised and had Majel Barret with a beard as number one.
  11. Highlights the overt differences between the mid sixties and the late sixties of the actual series. It plays like it was made in the year nineteenfiftyfourteen. I always thought it was quite good. More respectable than the series that followed but no where near as appealing.

    New Trek?

Stories made up as they go along are like being lied to by annoying drunk strangers. Then again, they do more closely resemble real life in a kind of not remotely resembling real life kind of way, as I find out in early spring that I am actually a genetically engineered alien who has been sectretely working for the Chinese all my life and that my wife is actually my sister, and then it was as if everything got frozen in time until early September, when I will weigh slightly more and have slightly shorter hair, with nothing to satisfy me in the mean time except vauge cycling recollections of previous events.

    New Trek?

Does this have any a realistic chance? Or is it just some guys idea? Because we all have good ideas for new Trek series, and a series set in a tax office on Betazed could be good if itwas well written.
  14. oh, I just thought that some mod had removed my meandering rants about Lorne Greene's beard and Richard Hatch's perculiar twitch.
  15. Yes a decoy of stock footage and clips from Silent Running interspersed with shots of a bearded senile Lorne Greene on a bad mock up of about 1 fifth of the bridge set which had probably been torn down the previous summer when the company that they loaned all the computer screens from demanded they be returned.
  16. Yes, its Tigh, Anders, Tyrol, Tori, and errrh... Bob Dylan!!! I can respect that, after Kobol, New Caprica, what can they really do, except an absolute head***k of a cliffhanger. I get the feeling they also had to do it on the cheap as well. But it gets right to the heart of the most burning issue of each version of the show. What is, where is Earth? (As long as its not the year 1980) The sheer obserdity of Tigh being a Cylon has to throw a spanner into the works, seeing as he would seem to predate the Cylons as a race. Even if his memories were fabricated proir to Adama meeting him, there has to be something pretty different about the Cylons than we understand, they have kept the nature of the divine intervention/Gods pretty mystical and probably will until any (may we hope) 5th season where it will probably be explained and the show will probably have to wrap. (Hence season 4 providing the build up to that.) "I've been there." Or whatever, excellent, brings the bite back to something that has of late been failing to draw weekly blood from my skin.

    I want this.

REPORTING BACK: http://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Electronics/Mp3+&+Mpeg4+Player/+Aria+SV+Sempra+MP3%2FMP4+-+2Gb?productId=26046 Yep, I got this in the end. Slightly different model, it has a built in speaker, and completely unadvertised bulit in FM tuner, it can only take a 1gb mini SD, rather than the 2gb advertised. You have to convert everything via software to the native 230ish resolution in non divx avi format. At full compression thats about 20 20 minute flicks per gig. But it is a seriously fun piece of kit. Its actually possible to enjoy stuff on this. The best thing is the novelty value, you can watch videos walking down the street, on your lunch break, in the toilet, what have you. I even find myself watching it in bed despite the siizeable TV in front of me. It also has significant feminine distractability, confounded by the narrow viewing distance. Its the sort of early adoptor technology that its great to have in the brief period before every human being has such items built into their underpants.
  18. I think I might save the last 2 episodes and watch them back to back, and instead of watching this week, recap on the last 4 eps.

    I want this.

I I've sometimes thought that if one were to wait until 2020, they could make rather a lucrative business of retailing 1960's films, in high quality low cost releases either via the web or a '60's themed' retail outlet in a major town centre. Am I right in thinking that this would actually be legit? I would have thought there would be some legal issues regarding any methods used to copy the material from a commercial source and/or whether whoever made the digital transfer was somehow being ripped off in an establisheable way. Oh dear. Here we go again.

    I want this.

indeed, you will however have to wait until 2009 to complete the set.

    I want this.

Oh I will admit its almost entirely lacking in purpose. Especially given that I walk 1 minute to work everyday and tend to travel absolutely nowhere. I just like the idea of video in my pocket. Also if you find yourself into encoding, you could find yourself fitting serious lengths of flicks on here. I'm running some experiments. If you encode at roughly 1:1 res of about 128 pixel width, compress the audio down, you might get about 40mb an hour. That means you could get whole runs of TV shows on SD cards the size of a postage stamp. Ahem, provided they were originally broadcast before 1957.
  22. It appears to be able to play a whole load of vids with 4 gb at very little expense, with an expandable card slot to boot. http://www.ebuyer.com/UK/product/126229 Does anyone have anything to say about these silly little things?
  23. The whole FTl/ 2 thousand year history of the show makes very little sense. Any society that has had FTL for meillenia would have much better ideas about who the hell they are and where they came from. A coherent explanation might be: The mystical God creatures that man lived with on Kobol furnished them with some kind of ark like ships which were used for man to emmigrate to the colonies. These fell into disrepair but the colonists were able to eventually immitate the technology, possibly canibalising ships for key sophisticated/powerful components. This could coincide with a few centuries of severed communication between various colonies. Any surviing relics of the Gods fell into obscurity, combined with clear records of man's history. Questions about contemporary colonial culture pale in comparison to a lack of basic explanations, but the above example is the sort of rational explanation that is unlikely to surface in the show despite the fact it sorely needs it.
  24. This half of the season is definitely the lowest point but I think this was an improvement. Firstly, it develops ongoing storylines which I think is important for any episode and secondly it had a very strong guest role, the guest stars usually diminish the appeal of any episode but I think this was an example of the exact oppposite. The captain Kelly stuff was a bit embarrasing, the rather lame 'lets pick an occasional background character with no established personality to be revealed as the climax of the whodunnit because at least its a bit less lame than it being someone completely random' thing. And yeh, they suddenly seem to have introduced the idea of using various farmiliar accents to represent other colonies, starting with Baltar's distinctly northern dialectic references last week. I don't feel strongly for or aganst it, and seeing as Baltar is distinctly British they've actually been doing it from the get go anyway. It might be more impressive if they actually attempted to create an unfarmiliar accent as seen with Troi in TNG or Dellen ad londo in B5, but at least it allows the guest stars to act naturally and helps create some feeling of variety amongst the various colonial survivors.
  25. They could get Matt Damon and Adrien Brody in to play Armstrong and Aldrin.
