Good to see America isn't pretending to be a democracy anymore. You've got that whole "mega corporations dictating government policy" thing down.

Really though, the MPAA must surely be run by a load of petulant children. Passing legislation like this is a nonsense.

Dare I say - it's probably going to encourage people to get illicit material which doesn't force people to watch adverts.

I suppose it would be funny if it wasn't so damned stupid.

It does show how much influence lobbyists have in the US, and the scary control money has on the goverment in the old Colonial backwater.

This sort of thing would never get through anywhere else but the US, although I'd love to see Tony try something daft over here, just to laugh when it failed.

this is defenitely going too far!!!

who do they think they are?

those americans are totally crazy!!

hope things like these will never happen in europe or i will move to sweden!!

Now now, don't blame the civilians or we'll have these anti-america anti-europe threads again :P

You are free to come here though, there are two channels totally without commercials. The rest of the channels, though, are filled with bad (american) shows that were cheap enough to buy. And reality shows.

On topic: that law will never pass. Right?

BEST ANTI-MARKETING TACTIC

Do people just cease to be a normal human the moment they enter a large corp. or gov.?

IF at least the marketing dept. have sensible people, this whole nonsense will crumble within MSFT or whatever entertainment/broadcasting company themselves (you know what I mean...)

If I live in a socialist/communist society and The Party tells me this is my only choice, I'll just give up my DVD/VCR/TV recorder, etc. The only reason I bought them in the first place is that they let me skip the ads!

BUT if this whole foolishness managed to pass, I'd still be glad I'm in Hong Kong. B)

Shame Hong Kong isn't British anymore - that was a sad sad day for the Empire.

On topic, myself, I can see the advantage to this for streaming media, where you could watch it cheaper if you watch the ads, but it still escapes me how this will be enforced as law with DVDs.

WHAT on EARTH? c'mon this goes too far, i like commercials on tv cos they're a handy break to take a leak in, but actually on DVD's is nuts

i suggest visiting the EFF @ www.eff.com to find out about what they can do to stop it.

hopfully this will not be inflicted on suffering brits
