thedoctor28
I know that it was Ryker's brother (Thomas) when he got to ds9 but obrian thought it was (Will). O'brian knew he (Will) hated him and when Thomas got there he acted as if he hated him so he must have known that his double (brother whatever) hated him. SO WHY? What did O'Brian do??? TFMF
I was wondering about this as well Although i have only seen the ep where we first met Tom once - i never saw anything between the 2 of them
Tenebrae
Probably lost his testicles in a transport or something.
Amnot Borg
Actually, Thomas was created by the transporter. He's a duplicate of Will Ryker. As to why he hated O'Brien, maybe it really was related to a transporter accident?
TFMF
In Defiant - Riker was apart of the Maquis. Did O'Brian do anything to help the Cardassians or somthing? (Actually i think he hated Cardassians as well but there has to be somthing...)
Hilander72
It's been a couple of month since I watched that episode, but if my memory serves me. The "hate" is a clue to what's about happen, like how Riker is behaving, acting, keeping a distance, the ambient music, etc... Meeting anyone who knows you is a danger to any imposter. Amnot Borg
ok, so the "hate" was faked to keep people from figuring out he was not the #1 of Enterprise?
motoxjesse
no not faked i think he blames him for the accident
Tenebrae
The transporter accident? Weren't they both on different ships at the time?
maverick
i think it was because riker didnt know o'brien at all. o'brien could have found thomas riker out as an imposter and therefore the best way to deal with that was to act aloof and avoid him than to try and bullshit his way thru a conversation. i remember watching that ep and bein impressed cos i thought it was a decisive way to deal with the situation. thomas riker and o'brien never even met tho. by the time that ep occurred where rikers double was found o'brien had left the enterprise. have fun
Tenebrae
O'Brien seemed to take the irrational hatred in his stride... and had he really left? At what point does O'Brien leave, I'll assume it's the point when DS9 started... which was what season 5-6 of TNG?
LoveTrek001
Yes, O'Brian was on DS9 when Riker met his double. The doubles plan was to act like he had something with O'Brian. O'Brian just agreed and was like WTF was that about... You don't disagree with a superior officer.
Tenebrae
That's a good point, O'Brien had a bit of a long suffering NCO complex. God knows if I were him I'd not waste my time trying to work out what had crawled up Riker's ass.
Steveo
I'd say it was just to keep the two apart.
Tenebrae
Surely it would arouse suspiscion though?

GhostShadow
Tom wanted to impress Kira by flexing his mean mucles. He showed Kira that he could be all sweet and nice and there he wanted to prove what an ass he can be. It makes perfect sense, tom just wanted to get some Kira Action...imho
Tenebrae
Yeah, he obviously had a thing for Bajorans. Catch some of the looks he's giving Rho in the episode where she defects.
Wazer
He had a thing for any attractive female full stop. Like Kirk he had a reputation for chasing skirt except Will Riker always carried a torch for Troi and also was part of a very PC crew so we didn't see that side of him much. Tom Riker has no such inhibitions.
