I just finished building my new computer this evening, and couldn't help myself - I just had to have a lil boast. ;)

AMD Athlon X2 3800 Dual Core CPU

Gigabyte Mobo with HD Audio and nVIDIA GeForce 6100 chipset

1 gig Dual channel King Max RAM (2x512)

Lovely big Cooler Master CPU fan with all copper heatsink

Crappy Old Compaq case that required some hack sawing to fit the new 500w Power supply

TV capture card!

- I definitely think some overclocking will be in order in the not too distant future)

-----------------------------------

Anyhow - thats my new pride & joy - feel free to join in the fun & share your PC setup too...

Mine isn't anything special.

Started as a Dell(dimension 4550) but after a few Upgrades it's alot better :

Intel P4 2.58 Ghz processor

512 MB DDR Ram <--started at 128

120 Gig 7500 rpm HD

2nd rack Western Digital 40 Gig 7500 HD <--I took that out of my old compy

16x DVD rom drive

2nd rack LG double layer DVD burner (DVd :16x +r, 16x -r, 8x +rw, 6x-rw, 5x-ram, 16x read, 4x+r DL/Cd :40x24x40)<--bought and installed about a year ago

Creative Labs soundblaster Live! 5.1 surround sound card

Nvidia Geforce FX 5500 AGP 256Mb Video card <--Just got this. Used to have a 64mb card

6x USB ports(4 back, 2 front)

2x Harmon/kardon speakers

Monitor - 17 inch Dell base montior. Nothing special except I was suppose to get a 15. They goof I win.

Joystick - Logitech Wingman Extreme digital

Webcam - Logitech Quickcam pro 4400

Headset - Logitech Internet Chat Headset

Mouse - Microsoft optical mouse(it was cheap and it's the basic)

Printer - Canon Multipass 370 photo/scanner/copier/printer. - I was surprisied how good the photos look printed by this machine

Digi-cam : Kodax DX3500(can't see it because it was used to take this picture)

I'll probably be adding more ram and maybe getting a better sound card at some point. I may replace the DVD rom drive with something a little better but there's no real rush since my DVD burner can read anything the other drive can't.

hehe, if this is for boasting, I better stay out... :D

My pc is in urgent need for an upgrade, but I'm still waiting 'till next year to do so. Will have to make do for the next year.

Athlon XP 3000+ (@3200+ with unlocked multiplier, I got lucky when I bought it) :p

1 gig of pc3200 ram in dual channel (for as far as an nforce 2 really has dual channel, still 64 bit max total, not the current 128 bit dual channel yet...)

nvidia 6800 gpu 128 meg

160 GB hdd

cheap ass dvd

lcd display and 2.1 box-set

nothing special (i've had it for about 2 years now) and it runs pretty hot during summer... next year, I guess I'm going for a 45nm intel core duo something, but who know what happens by then in hardware country... :D

I really have more need for power efficiency right now, then for 'horsepower'... (so you can guess this athlon sux at it)

I upgraded mine last autumn... (sold old one for a pizza, a damn good pizza)

P4 3.0 GHz (630, 2MB L2 cache) with arctic cooling. (virtually silent, only air drag sound, besides the GeForce fan makes a lot more noise and I'm considering to replace it)

1 GB RAM (2x512 dual, 533)

200 GB HDD (7200rpm)

GeForce 6600GT (256Mb)

19" Samsung 913N flat screen (1280x1024)

Everything is pretty middle end... and cost about $1500

Why waste money on something that becomes obselete within a year? (high end becomes standard or a low end becomes useless)

but why over clock it ? over clocking just wears it out quicker and theres nothing out yet that your setup can't handle

Just because its faster? Thats pretty much is the only reason I had in mind... also it might be kinda interesting - its not something I've set myself to yet.

So I guess the short answer would have to be - just for kicks & giggles ;)

Mines still in need of an upgrade, havent done anything in the last 5 years apart from a new DVDRW (another new one tomorrow)

P4 1.8GHz

128mb GeForce 4 Ti4600

512MB Rambus

SB Live Platinum (5.1 Surround system)

19" Mitsubishi TFT Monitor

optical Mouse, Keyboard, cam etc

After my new DVDRW burner I might go for a new bigger HD (only 80GB right now, not very good for storing all my Big 'T' files hence my burners dying every few years! Then a new processor and 3D card but Im waiting till the new cards come out then Ill get a currently expensive top card a bit cheaper.

  • 4 weeks later...

Update:

Brand new keyboard... (cord chewed to shreads by kitten)

Price: 99 SEK = $13

It's so cheap that the keyboard has no brand/company name on it. :cyclops:

(Usually unbranded stuff costs a lot more)

These days it's though to find anything without labels/logos/brands/ads on them and some people even pays extra to look like a walking advertisment or litter their homes with commercials.

BLAH BLAH BLAH

I want to see some BENCHMARKS on your machines. Time to see some hard # to go with those specs.

Personally, my next machine will be a notebook. I'm sick of having a space wasting tower. Just want everything in a small portable package, with at least a 17" screen and 4000+ or ML-37 AMD64 with 128MB+ dedicated ram vid card, and color 4-1 laser printer. None of this inkjet garbage.

Benchmarking sounds a good idea wahaha best if we all use the same software to test it on tho huh. Wonder what you guys would use? i need a new benchmarking software to be honest as the ones ive got are circa Win98SE (wincheck, 3d benchmark etc) and i dont use 98 anymore so i dont trust the results.
