TFMF
Microsoft have announced yet another new money-maker to make up for their losses from Vista. Microsoft Surface Warning: Page will take ages to load on slower connections Microsoft Surface represents a fundemantal change in the way we interact with digital content. Surface features a 30-inch tabletop display whose unique abilities allow for several people to work independently or simultaneously. All without a keyboard or mouse It seems exciting, but i just can't see it costing any less than an arm and a leg...

bbbb
Was there a blue screen of death message when it was unveiled to the general public? That would be funny, a giant blue screen of death when someone touches the surface...
dBLOOD
How funny will that be when 4 years old Rebecca slosh it with her chocolate milk, or when 5 months old Billie pukes on it when mother sits to it with the little child in her arms...
vystral
Surface was announced only shortly after Vista's release, which would mean it was in development during the latter days of Vista's development cycle.
dr_strekge
I still refuse the idea of having to change to XP memory requirements, not to say his even bloated descendants... The 'best buy' 'doo-dad' for me this days is to buy a new big hard drive... for less than $100, and a cheap $32-$40... memory upgrade(so you can still use 1 of your old DDRX memory, and if it wasn't because only fat32 remains as the most universal/friendly filesystem for pc's (in my opinion) my second OS choice should be Debian. But let's face it, am still 'afraid' to loose my precious cummule of withsense and nonsense data/bullsh*t stuff in linux formatted filesystems that one can not see only connecting a hard drive and booting from a 98bootdisk or on SD or pendrives. (Why there is not a open source FAT64 or FAT128 fs yet? :). The wheel was and is still round and thus is how it works nice for PC's... they wanted DOS out, and this 'revenge of soft' is also a 'Real-DOS' revenge... For the quick / power tasks I prefer and I will be using my 'Merlin2k' until the last day of its support, history repeating itself again... As Martok would say: "To Stovockov" :P
vystral
Right now I'm dual booting Ubuntu and XP Pro SP2. The only reason I ever boot into XP is to sync my Zune. That's it. Everything else I do in Ubuntu. Someday someone will come up with a way to sync the Zune with linux. Until then, I must keep Windows somewhere. bbbb
I think Microsoft will be waiting a long time to get any gains from Vista. It's too big and clunky to be effective in the short term. If I were Mircosoft I'd be placing my bets on the XP SP3 that should be coming out soon. It is unfortunate that XP support will end within the next year and that XP will end up like Win98 has been up to say 2006.
vystral
Microsoft has said they will support XP until 2010 and dropped a bombshell on us the other day, saying that they want to replace Vista with the upcoming Windows 7 as early as 2009.
