If we had a Starship, what would we name it?

Starfleet is eternally grateful to the Niteshadow Krew for standing firm in the face of the alien ##AA threat. We have all received commendations.

Best of all, we are offered our own ship.

We get a starship to explore strange new worlds and go places no man has gone before.

What do we name it?

Enterprise #6 on up? NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Niteshadow? NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Something unrelated to the site or any; ANY, Star Trek trivia or connection. We are doing our own thing with our own ideas in our own way.

Proper names, scientific names, animal names, plant names, made up names. Anything goes.

I am still thinking about my choice. Every name I think of? About an hour or so later I remember that is the name of something in a sci fi book I read.

Why do we wanna do this? If we are gonna start making our own decent Sci Fi since the money guys only make money Sci Fi, we gotta have a Starship, a group name, a company name. Pretend you are Gene Rodenberry and you are looking for the name of your 1967 sci fi series.

So don't pick anything Nerdy! I hate being stereotyped! ;)

Kinda sounds like you've been painting without a mask, dude. Watch the fumes...but I'd name it Challenger or the TARDIS, just to be kewl.

The Beagle - an already famous ship of exploration - and (I think) Captain Archer's dog ...

Choose a name as did the Vikings:

The ships had names which reflected the shape of their prows, like "Long Serpent", "Snake of the Sea" and "Horse of the Home of Ice".

Personally, I like "The Starship Equus"

The mission of the X PRIZE Foundation is to create radical breakthroughs in space and other technologies for the benefit of humanity.

On October 4th, 2004, the X PRIZE Foundation captured the world’s attention when the Mojave Aerospace team led by Burt Rutan and Paul Allen flew SpaceShipOne to 100KM to win the $10 million ANSARI X PRIZE. Because of the dramatic nature of this achievement, the X PRIZE Foundation is now widely recognized as the leading model for capturing public support and fostering innovation through the use of competitions.

Just so long as it's not something really lame like: The William Gates

yeah Porthos is a Beagle,

I like that name I think it would be a fitting tribute to A E Van Vogt, when I first saw the dog I wondered if some writer was having a poke at Roddenberry

edit - thought I better explain, for those who haven't read it, "The Voyage of the Space Beagle" is s novel from the '30s that bears an uncanny similarity to Roddenberry's work

Actually a study in creativity shows that for a person it takes about 20 attempts until all "standard" ideas have been cleansed from ones' system and what comes out are YOUR ideas (i.e. creativity).

What then happens is that your brain really starts to process this inquery you're giving yourself. So just like with other mechanics, there is actually a whole process to understand and when mastered, you can have yourself do everything "the right way" to accomplish what you're looking out to do!

*Just some fun trivia on the subject*

......IT WOULD BE GRRREAT.

earth to trev. come in trev.

give the computer a lancashire accent. if someone made a series about our adventures a lancashire accent would make us seem really cosmopolitan.

e.g.

"computer, status"

"oo, am a bit peckish, and me heads a bit bad from last night." "got a bit of a smelly bum too." " 'ows yuself?"

proper classy

Related to a really random discussion I had while stoned with my friends the other day, the name enterprise is inevitably diassociated from star trek and, well the name of earth first star ship is destined to be named:

OV-101-A Enterprise

EDIT: to explain that, OV-101 was the designation of the first space shuttle, it was supposed to fly in place of columbia, but problems developed with discovery and they had to switch enterprise with discovery as the test vehicle. That is why enterprise is OV-101, columbia is OV-102 but discoveriy is SOV-099. Sadly, because of this, enterprise was not the first spaceship as was intended.

Challenger does have a symbolic ring to it! ;)

We could go for a different but still symbolic way: The Azureus Express!

Or something that just came up, call it a brain-fart for all I care: USS Brentrax

He, he... The USS Microsoft...

A ship, that looks like federal vessel so that you let it get close, but when you do, it behaves like a borg ship - it send the software and the hardware on your ship, and when you get it INSTALLED all your machines goes mad and eventually fals appart before the time to decomission your ship has come... :D :D :D Nice ship, no doubt...

I think I'd call the Starship:

USS Angry Penis

in honor of BorisP of course....

Computer....... Angry Penis, engage......!

Reminds me of a poem I first read about 25 years ago:

Prelude to Space

An Epithalamium

So Man, grown vigorous now,

Holds himself ripe to breed,

Daily devises how

To ejaculate his seed

And boldly fertilize

The Black womb of the unconsenting skies.

Some now alive expect

(I am told) to see the large,

Steel member grow erect,

Turgid with the fierce charge

Of our whole planet's skill,

Courage, weath, knowledge, concentrated will.

Straining with lust to stamp

Our likeness on the abyss--

Bombs, gallows, Belsen camp,

Pox, polio, Thais' kiss

Or Judas', Moloch's fires

And Torquemada's (sons resemble sires)

Shall we, when the grim shape

Roars upward, dance and sing?

Yes: if we honour rape,

If we take pride to fling

So bountifully on space

The sperm of our long woes, our large disgrace.

Reminds me of a joke from Windows 3.0 days:

Q: What's the difference between Windows and a computer virus?

A: The virus actually does something!

I'd name it.......
