  1. I got the x files - not surprising since Scully is one of my role models!!!!
  2. What I would have like to have seen is a series set in the KOTOR timeline - maybe even seen a few faces from the games. I don't think it will fail there are too many Star Wars fans around the globe, it will have to be really bad for them not to watch. Current rumour is that it's not going to start until autumn 2007 and it involves minor characters from the movies - Boba Fett anyone? Since it is set between 3 and 4 I would like to see the 'Dark Woman' comic strip as an episode.
  3. It'll be interesting to see how many people stay now. I originally came here for torrents, but i now I only stay for the community and people I've met here. I'm in for the long haul. Funny thing is it's took me two days to realise the torrent site was down!!!!!!
  4. I, too loved this story. For me it was the best of all of Patrick Troughton's stories. B/W works well here rather than colour, especially in the earlier episodes. It added a depth of atmoshere, a starkness that represented the horror of WW1 very well. Each of the time periods were handled pretty well but the WW1 scenes steal the show completely. I loved that we see another renegade Time Lord. The War Chief makes an excellent foil for the Doctor and really highlights the Doctor's philosophy. The War Chief is also very Macavellian, making alliances, betraying them, putting himself in a position of kingmaker to the War Lord. His devious ways are very reminicent of the Master - a sort of proto Master if you like. Phillip Madoc too, puts in an excellent performance as the War Lord. Calm and Collected all the way through, only showing any real emotion when he is sentenced by the Time Lords. He protrays a man divorced from humanity (a neccesary attitude when you think of the experiment he performing) very well - cold and calculating. The real star of the show, however, is Patrick Troughton. He gives his finest performance here and later on steals every scene. From the moment he realises that the threat is to great to deal with himself, his acting is pure poetry. Watch him go through fear, reluctance and resignation as he decides to bring in the Time Lords to sort everything out. And yet even faced with the inevitable still fights on to save his companions and escape from the then unamed Gallifrey. And then of course there is the scene where the Time Lords force him to choose a new body - pure magic. my tuppence worth anyway.
  5. Have we had Nosebung? A nickname attributed to head of CIA Coordinator Vansell by the 8th Doctor in the BF audio Neverland
  6. Basically for 3 reasons: 1. Even splitting TTOATL into seperate stories, Colin only has 11 stories and that fits nicely into 1 poll. (All the previous Doctors had more than 15, so made sense to split them into seasons) 2. I'd like to finish this poll before David Tennant starts properly, then we can use our favourite story as a benchmark 3. I've been at this for a good half a year and the finish is in sight - It really has been like running a marathon. oh and 4. I have a sneaking suspicion that Genesis Of The Daleks will win and I want to know I guessed right!:)
  7. In an shameless attempt to get more discussion going on in the audio side of things, i thought I'd list the updates here. 2 new polls based around the audios This months Big Finish Audio reviewed Cyberman 4 reviewed And finally several people objected to the new plays being reviewed because they hadn't listened/downloaded them. to give everyone an opportunity to talk about something on audio I've started a BF Classics thread (in the same way we have a Doctor Who Classics thread) dealing with all the past releases. Someone once said Audios are not popular here because they've been done to death on 'Outpost Gallifrey', however, that's their forum - this is ours and we've barely touched them. Please let me know if there is anything else you would like to see in the forum - all suggestions welcome. For example: Would like to see more coverage of other BF stuff such as Sapphire and Steel, Benny, Judge Dredd etc, and what about other Audio like the BBC's Death comes to time? Let me know, I'm determined to get more people talking about the Audio side of Doctor Who. I've took it on as a personal crusade.
  8. I should elobrate on my earlier statement, Due to the BF Audios Paul Mcgann is my favourite Doctor, but I have to say that Tom Baker IS the Doctor. 1. Paul McGann 2. Tom Baker 3. Peter Davison 4. David Tennant 5. Colin Baker 6. Patrick Troughton 7. Sylvester McCoy 8. Christopher Eccelston 9. William Hartnell 10. Jon Pertwee
  9. Hve you seen the latest news on Outpost Gallifrey? Not content with lampooning Big Brother last year, the Dr Who is going to top themselves (please feel free interpret that saying), by lampooning Trisha. For American fans (and other countries) Trisha is the Britsh answer to Oprah, Donahue, Geraldo etc.
  10. Since I'm doing the TV shows, it makes sense to do the Audios as well. Do people want me to include the specials? BBC Audios? etc
  11. With almost 80 adventures now officially on Audio (not counting the BBC stuff), and widespread acknowledgement that some of the Doctor's have have done there best work on Audio, which Doctor do you look forward to hearing the most?
  12. This is the major factor for me (and for others I guess), I canlt really discuss many of the B/W episodes because I haven't seen them and they no longer exist. I loved the Mind Robber (especially how they overcame Frazer Hines illness - sheer genius), but I felt it went on a little too long. It was similar set up to the Celestial Toymaker, but far superior in it's execution. The thing that makes me wonder is how many people want the Master in the mind robber to be a previous incarnation of of the Doctor's archenemy when it's quite clearly defined that the Master in the Mind Robber is a human author of 'boys own' stories trapped in the world of Fiction. It's been a long time since I've seen the story - Who was the hidden Villian controlling the Master - did we ever find out.
  13. A number of posters have said that they haven't listened to the new releases yet, and so think it unfair to post reviews on them as official discussion. T readdress the balance then, I thought it might be a good idea to go back to start. So in the interests of raising more dicussion about the audios I thought by now most fans will of listened to at least the first one. So here's my review of Sirens Of Time. I really like this play. I thought it was because at the time it was the closest thing to Dr Who being on the Tv. Now, 7 years down the line (has it really been that long!?) I've listened to it many times and I still think it's one of the best plays in the range. I loved the idea of giving each Doctor a seperate episode to work with. I liked each episode, but Colin's was the easily the best and Sylv's was easily the weakest. Don't get me wrong, this is not because of Sylv's performance (on the contrary I thought this was one of the best performances he's given), i even liked the story. The problem with the 7th Doctor segment is pacing, it starts off too slow builds to a reasonable pace and then frentic climax and the stops! the whole episode feels as if the the author ran out of time to finish it, thus leaving a cliffhanger that could not be resolved for another 2 episodes. Top marks have to go to Colin McIntyre here. I really bought into the aging War criminal of Sancroft (especially at the end of Part four). Sancroft simply is one of the best supporting characters I've ever heard. The Peter Davison segement is uniformly excellent, which is why unfortunately I have the least to say about it. Although one one of the best scenes of the play has to be Peter Davison commenting on Sarah Mowat's dodgy scouse accent. "I'm sorry is that that Ellen or Helen?" had me giggling for hours! Colin Baker was the highlight of this play for me. He plays of his scenes beautifully and works well off Sarah Mowat and John Wadmore. It is fitting he gets the final line and and the pivotal decision in part four. There is a real sense of angst to his Doctor and also a sense of purpose. He proves more than adequately how intelligent his Doctor can be. Finally we have a version of the 6th Doctor that is more than bluster and egotism. I wish I could have seen this episode on the TV. The fourth episode is the the linch pin of the drama and oddly enough this this where it falls down. The three Doctors together are great as are the supporting characters. The ambience is great, giving a good sense of a doomed Gallifrey. Like Episode one, however, the problem is pacing, or more accurately there is too much to do, thus the 4th episode flys along and ends with a rushed answer to the dilemma. If Nick Briggs had taken out the the 'Siren' idea and had left Elenya as a Knight of Velyshaa trying to establish the new empire I think this play would have had more focus and a better resolution. The Sirens (well one Siren as we he didn't get introduced to any others) as natural force disrupting time didn't work for me. What was their place in the Cosmic Food chain? What naturally balanced out their disruptions? Unfortunately there was lack of underlying logic to this concept. maybe they could have been more fully explored, but as suggested above it seemed that Nick Briggs ran out of time. Overall, it was a welcome return of the Doctor(s) and like i said at the start, Sirens Of Time is one of my most listened to plays. With that in my mind 8.5/10

    Cybermen Series

My overall score for the series = 7.75/10, so lets call it 8. Some great stuff in there, but falls just short of classic satus. IMHO, definitley better than Dalek Empire

    Cybermen Series

Well after a long delay part four is finally here. ***Warning Spoilers*** It was worth the wait. I love the developing relationship between Liam and Sam. Especially when Sam asks why Liam's views have changed. The answer simple and honest, underlies what the story is really about. This later confirmed by the Android leader's reaction to Liam even further blurring the line between androids and humans, giving the whole piece a sense of hope. The surprising thing about this play is the scope, after building up to an epic finale at the end of part three I was disappointed by the smallness of part four. Given the importance of destroying/awakening the tombs onTelos I can't understand why the androids only send 2 ships and the Cybermen one. Maybe I've heard Rutger Hauer's ad lib from Bladerunner too many times but I was really expecting 'Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion.' I imagined whole fleets locked in mortal combat - Android survivors battling Cybermen in the airlessness of space etc. The last did happen, but it was very small and in background with only a couple of lines devoted to the most desperate battle of story. When the climax comes it is very small, only a partial sucess (naturally leading to Cybermen Series 2) and vaguely disappointing. I was partially right about Liam trying to reunite Karen with her humanity. This was one of the best bits of the play, the fact that he could quite do it. I wish in hindsight that Karen had survived. She would have been an interesting character in the (doubtless forcoming) second series. Tortured between the 2 halves of her personality human and Cyberman. It could have even ended with her fighting with the resistance in a similar role to Sharon BSG, maybe evn set up a love triangle between Liam, Sam and Karen. There were good possiblities for the character. Despite the above I don't want peoiple to think I didn't enjoy the play. I did and I would definitely listen to a second and (likely) third series. Overall I just think becase of the lack of epicness to the finale that this was the weakest entry in the series. Overall 7/10

  17. Sorry this review was a bit late. Bit of a mixed bag this one, I was tempted to give it a high mark for atmosphere at alone. Like Medicinal Purposes, the the atmosphere is genuinely spooky, however, unfortunately this is not the the only thing it has in common with that play. Like Medicinal Purposes, the acting is top notch - I found myself interested in all of the characters, especially The Deacon and The Bursar. The characters added a huge chunk to the ambience mentioned above and although a bit hackneyed now (a child speaking through a stuffed toy as means of expressing herself), it is worth mentioning the character of Sue, who works well here. Like Medicinal Purposes, Night Thoughts has one fatal flaw: The plot. It starts of well, A group of scientists on a remote scottish island conducting experiments. The Doctor arrives, Ace and Hex in tow, people start dying in grisly ways. We learn of a terible trajedy that should never of taken place and how the experiments are connected and then suddenly it goes pear shaped and ends in a mess. Whilst I find the killers motivation rational, the need for revenge the how and why the killer is on the island is complete an utter codswallop (feel free to insert favourite curse word here). Time, even in the Doctor Who universe would not work like that. As for the method of the Killers continued existance - nah I don't buy it. The real villian's motivations when first told also make good sense, but then later on become twisted into something else quite incomprehensible. We also have one hell of a coincidence with Dr O'neill reading the scientists advert and deciding to come to the island. Finally we all know by now that there is a certain pattern to the Doctor Who story format, the fun comes from playing with this pattern. Unfortunately Night Thoughts sticks so rigidly to the pattern that things aren't merely signposted, they are lit up like a Las Vegas casino. All in all not bad, but I feel another draft could have made this a classic and iron out several plot flaws. As is 7/10
  18. it's for Mr Shouty to to have a go. I'll admit even at the time I enjoyed Colin Baker as the Doctor and looked forward to his long stint as hinted in an interview on Blue Peter. oh well at least there is the big finidh plays... (TTOATL) = Indicate those stories that form The Trial Of A Timelord season. A quote from Vengeance On Varos: Vote Now!!!!
  19. So far the final poll is: The Time Meddler Tomb Of The Cybermen The Three Doctors Genesis Of The Daleks Earthshock (TBC) The Tv Movie
  20. Well we have a clear winner here, tho I do confess to being surprised. Earthshock will now go on to the final poll. Onto Colin baker....
  21. According to one site this is a Reman fighter: http://www.ex-astris-scientia.org/schematics/reman-shuttle-t.jpg[\img]
  22. What about that shuttle type/fighter thing that they stole in Nemesis to escape in?
  23. Well we reached the end of the Peter Davison Era already, a sobering thought with this poll we are halfway through the televised Doctors and none of the rest have more than fifteen stories, so things are likey to speed up from now. Does any know how many weeks I've done this poll for, so far?
