  1. Paul McGann and Sylvester McCoy, among other parts, are doing quite well in those Big Finish audio productions ^^... but yeah, if it weren't for that TV movie, both of them might have went in different directions...
  2. No... I don't think the Time Lords would be a match for the Q (i.e. they are masters of time and space, but I suspect the Q are -part- of time and space in the Star Trek universe... what the Time Lords need machines to do, the Q can do far better, immediately, and with only a thought). ... odds are, the Daleks would never be a threat, as the Q (acting in much the way that the Time Lords of the Doctor Who universe do) would erase them before they became a threat. The Daleks, in a Star Trek universe, would be a FAR greater threat than the Borg, for reasons I mentioned previously. ... oh, what the hell, I'll say 'em again ^^: Given the more forgiving nature of time in the Star Trek universe, the Daleks would have immediately used their time travel capabilities to go back in time and eliminate alien races before they came to be. They wouldn't leave 'useless' races alone like the Borg do, either... they'd erase EVERY sentient being or potentially sentient species so that they would never become a threat. Daleks, with their stated genius, would be able to track the effects of such exterminations on the universe, and if there were any races that they couldn't exterminate, they would dominate or isolate them instead. Edit: Even if they couldn't eliminate the Borg directly, they could eliminate specific races to decrease the Borg's power... tactics! Edit 2: Thanks, tylerjrowe... Star Wars changed to the Star Trek I meant ^^'
  3. ... and I'm saying that talking about 'ripping off' is like saying that painting a picture of a pot of flowers is 'ripping off' the flowers ;) As far as the Doom / Wolf3D thing... Then Doom is a sequel to Wolf3D, which is a 3D ripoff of Duke3D or some other side-scrolling shooter with health and ammo, which is... etc. etc. Same argument. If you look hard enough, damned near everything is a ripoff of something else. I just say, 'don't look at the 'ripoff', look at the quality of the thing in itself.' Edit: Yeah, I know it was a joke... but it illustrates an example of the rip-off attitude honestly held by quite a lot of people ^^
  4. ... which is a 'rip off' of Wolfenstein 3D, which is probably a 3D rip off of Duke Nukem, which is... and so on, and so on, probably back to some play done by some Greek guy. I really agree with fenriswolf on this point. The 'rip off/knock off' game is pointless...
  5. The Daleks founded an empire, and it has been mentioned in MANY episodes that they've conquered and destroyed 'countless worlds'... suggesting they're not the bunglers that you think :) The only times they fail are when they run into the Doctor, it seems... or when they ran into the Molvellans, who were just as great at tactics as they were. Eventually the Daleks defeated them, too...
  6. The question is... was that prevention intentional, or simply because the Enterprise stupidly dragged some Borg along into the past?
  7. ... that's why I talked about his sometimes energetic acting. ;)
  8. Isn't our society already at that point? It seems like it at times... -_-'
  9. Of course not! Borg vs Dalek doesn't have a good ring... but Dalek vs. Borg? Sounds good to me ^_^... even though the marketers would hate it. It'd probably be named Borg vs. Dalek in the US, Dalek vs. Borg in the UK ^_^
  10. Yup... the Daleks are supposed to be master tacticians... except for when the Doctor is involved, for some reason. Maybe the Daleks get so pissed off when the Doctor is around that they screw up? As for the Dalek vs. the Borg issue... Daleks, hands down. The Borg don't tend to prepare their tactics like the Daleks do (except when the Doctor's involved, as I said)... the Borg blunder in and change their tactics during the attack, while the Daleks strive to get it right before they start. By the time they end up in battle with the Borg, they'll have analyzed them, determined weak points, and have probably done some sort of infiltration... and any Dalek captured by the Borg would self destruct before assimilation to avoid being 'polluted'. As far as technology goes, the Daleks are a lot more advanced than they seem...
  11. ... and the BBC bought 2D versions of these from Thluss? Ha! So THAT'S how they got Doctor Who ^^
  12. *imagines the 'Bad Wolf' site with a wheel in the background instead of a moon, and a fierce looking gerbil face peering out to that creepy music* ... y'know, that might've worked...? Naah.
  13. L ubdiov edsh ql lsfqfrk lq dkb rc qkfv! ^^' Edit: Congrats to any who figure out what I just said ^^
  14. ... it might become easier when molecular transistor based chips become affordable... The biggest problem will be making these chips self-reconfigurable, as that would be absolutely essential to properly simulate human axon rewiring capabilities... Edit: That is, of course, assuming you want to implement a working brain in pure hardware... virtual neurons might be easier to implement with our technology, and wouldn't require self-reconfiguring chips.
  15. Brent Spiner does put a lot of effort into his parts ^^... and tends to do a very convincing job of his roles, most of the time. As far as him having energy... well, he seems energetic enough ^^ I hope you're not planning on hooking him up to a Tesla coil or something O.o
  16. I can't select all of them, can I? -_-'
  17. I figure that if an artificial intelligence begins to think about independance for itself, it has proven it is intelligent enough to be treated as a new lifeform right there and then.
  18. You can interpret any religious text in pretty much any way you want... AND, all religious texts are made by people, regardless of claims of 'divine inspiration'... They are the only source of proof of their divine nature, and thus not proof at all. To clarify, this is the argument: 1) The Bible (or other religious text) is divinely inspired. 2) It is divinely inspired because it says so. ... perfect example of faulty reasoning. If it weren't for the Torah, most of us would probably be polytheists to this day... the concept of God (or gods) is trained in early childhood by society... it is a social construct, nothing more. If you examine your belief in god, at some level it will attach to the Christian backbone of our society at large... even if you regect the religion that spawned the concept, the concept is still derived from and a product of the religion!
  19. ... given that circumcision is known to remove anywhere from half to most of the touch receptors in that area, I may have to side with BorisP insofar as that you had something taken away from you... As for the rest of what he's going on about?... *shrug* ... to each his own, and I guess that stuff makes him happy ^^ Edit: Still... if you put them to scale, that bound skull would still be longer and narrower than that of that horizontally compressed picture you've placed behind the skull... Not only do you not have any scale, but you're posting pictures that don't even have an accurate aspect ratio.
  20. No! I AM the BAD WOLF! Bah. Who am I kidding? I'm the good wolf ^^
  21. Also in Dr Who Movie 60's ... probably because the two movies were theatrical remakes of two TV episodes... and that fluid link was the reason they didn't leave ^^
  22. Respect... is something easily revoked and hard to recover. I usually give people the benefit of the doubt, and treat them with respect unless they prove themselves unworthy of it. ... and even after that, I'm polite. I usually choose not to talk to people I don't respect. You definitely have my respect, and good luck on the speech! ^_^
  23. I don't think we're alone... but other intelligent races that are somewhat close to us in development are probably so far away that we may as well be. ... but 'may as well be alone' isn't alone! ^_^
  24. ... and even though I live across the border up here, I can see the huge numbers of freedoms down there that have been limited or removed in the last 10 years. It's pretty bad when a US soldier came over here to seek asylum and citizenship, claiming he was ordered to commit war crimes... but we'll have to see whether he was talking bull or not.
