ENT: Enterprise Episodes - Grrrr!

Ok, it took me awhile but I'm really getting into Enterprise now. However, I'm annoyed at how many episodes are continued!! Back in the days of TNG they usually only had a continued episode for the season finallie (sp). I do like the extended plot lines, but sometimes it gets on my nerves not being able to watch the WHOLE story at one sitting. I have to wait till the next part comes out, and then I usually will want to watch the first half once again before watching the (hopefully) ending! Grrr!

he's right about TNG, they were usually one-show one-sitting...And voyager for the most part...Episodes that didn't share a title (Dark Frontier Pt1/2, Unification Pt 1/2) didn't carry over in plotlines.

There were a few occurences where of course since it's a live storyline, events from previous episodes were involved - but they were restated or re-capped for the viewer to remember, they didn't just continue the story assuming the viewer knew what was up. Like in "Hope and Fear" of Voyager Season 4 where they finally decrypted the message sent from Starfleet HQ in one of the episodes prior, they opened it with the Captain's log: "We've been trying to decode the message from Starfleet we recieved almost 5 months ago..." they didn't just start talking about the message assuming you knew what was up.

Enterprise seems to operate more like a soap opera, everything being a continuation.

There are people who enjoy arcs, others who despise them and others that fit in between. I agree that enterprise has been arc-happy in the past and a lot this season, yet I think it is necessary for this season, the stories are progressing the overall picture and are very interesting. I just hope that we don't have to see the entire federation formed in the last two episodes and that it will take nearly three more seasons before this happens. Here's to hoping we're not cancelled!

i'm more of an old school trekie. i dont like the 'cliffhangers' unless its at the end of a season. hell' date=' i hate then then too. making me wait till the next season starts before i get to see what happens. drives me nuts![/quote']

Hehehe... yeah i must agree with you on the "end of season arcs"

I love Sci-fi, but I HATE forseeing the ending of a episodse (or movie) half way through it, ie. Mr. X saves friend Y, and defeats bad guy Z, 1 minute before the end.

Predictable and boring, and unfortunatley most programs I have watched are like this (I've only watched Enterprise Season 3 & 4, most of Stargate, Battlestar Galactica, Odyssey 5). Stargate is the worst offender.

At least Enterprise make an attempt to keep the viewers guessing with arcs. I am baffled with all this criticism of Enterprise, I think it's a great program. Admittingly I've only watched the last 2 seasons, and have NEVER watched any other Star Trek before.

This season is really riding on arcs. I think the ability to write a good episode that starts and ends in one episode has diminished greatly. They use arcs because they don't have enough stories to fill small seasons (ie 22 episodes only).

I don't know if it is to keep the viewers. On the DVD extras of TNG season 1. the producers made a statement that they are ALWAYS looking for new was to go with the current Star Treks. I was thinking that 2-3 parters was their attempt to do so.

I have mixed feelings about the arcs. I like the extended plots and the more in depth storylines. However, if you miss a show you can't watch it next week or you're lost, or you spoil the ending.

I liked TNG for wrapping things up and getting on with life, however sometimes it made for unrealistic things. Like Geodi and Data solving something or using some "theoretical" technology or hell inventing something new. And warping across the galaxy, or using the transporter to make them old again, or killing the borg, or... hell the list goes on and on. Like why don't Data and Geordi work at StarFleet-invent-things-place...

So that is my mixed feelings, and I beleive most people would feel similar. I makes following the show difficult unless you can make the show every week (which is what they want I guess). But I am still a Trek fan and will be so until I die.
