Whatever his reasons for closing down the torrents, it was all voluntary, he was not being paid for the privilege and therefore, all he deserves is our undying gratitude for all the good work he did for us. Anyone who can't see past that is so stupid that continuing the argument would be a totally pointless exercise. You'll never get the point through his/her thick skull. Just ignore it and it will go away, particularly as it has made it clear it's not getting what it wants from the site. Selfish... Thank you Nite. To prove this, let the Facts be submitted to a candid world. The MPAA knows no bounds in its effort to interfere in the home entertainment of all Americans and means to plunder our television and ravage our bit-torrent distribution. Let it be known that this complaint is about much more than the abridged rights of one NiteShdw and rather means to condemn the current atmosphere of censure in which we find ourselves today living. Such an atmosphere is anathema to a free society, in which one has a right to receive free content (as long as it is not obscene) and one is free to disregard this speech or counter with an opposing viewpoint. The MPAA knows no bounds in its effort to impose fines, not just on NiteShdw, but on a multitude of our websites, including $1.2 million against The Pirate Bay The MPAA has fashioned an utterly restrictive atmosphere, one in which preemptive self-censorship is possible and likely, one in which sixty-six Torrent Spy’s affiliates refused to post Saving Private Ryan last year for fear of incurring fines. The MPAA has been joined in this cause by the United States Justice Department under Attorney General Alberto Gonzales, who has announced that the "battle against piracy" will be a top priority, perhaps even more so than under his predecessor, John Ashcroft. This means that manpower that could be spent prosecuting bad guys and terrorists and other enemies of the commonwealth will now be devoted to studying the blog postings of NiteShdw, and others. The MPAA should be reminded that all televisions have a button. This is called an "ON" button, and it can be used by citizens to find broadcast content that is interesting. It strikes us as tiresome to have to repeat this old remonstrance, but whatever. Furthermore, there now exist all manner of searches and filters that can be used by people and citizens to find content that is suitable for them. We, however, are not children, and we will not be treated as such by our government. The MPAA, over the last five years, has levied fines on internet hosts of torrents to a total of $3.4 million for programming on the internet. The MPAA has written the following in its most recent reprimand of Mr. Shdw, dated April 8, 2004. We quote: " “Website operators who abuse technology to facilitate infringements of copyrighted works by millions of people are not anonymous – they can and will be stopped, " These weighty words were typed by U.S. government employees on U.S. government computers and discussed in U.S. government conference rooms. Just to be clear. Be that as it may, the internet host NiteShdw does not lack for literary merit. Rather, he is part and parcel of a long, ribald tradition of gloriously undignified art that includes Wikipedia, Torrentspy, and Torrentz.Ws all of whom discussed "torrenting" in one way or another. The internet host NiteShdw does not lack for educational merit. Rather, he is charting the sci-fi mores of our great nation, much like noted sci-fi author Garth Franklin did. The MPAA has cited the internet host NiteShdw for the discussion of a custom known as the "torrent," though it has not proven or even attempted to prove that said custom represents a clear and present danger. It has failed to prove that, as a result of The NiteShdw Blog, there has erupted an epidemic of torrenting among our fellow countrymen. This, in spite of discourse such as the following, heard by millions of our citizenry and meticulously reproduced verbatim in filings by MPAA employees. Therefore, appealing to the Supreme Judge of the world for the rectitude of his intentions, we solemnly publish and declare that NiteShdw is absolved from all allegiance to the MPAA, and any connection between them is totally dissolved. For when faced with the termination of his astonishingly high-trafficed cite, when faced with censure from his very own government, NiteShdw refused to do what most of us would do: He refused to make accommodations. Rather, he declared a revolution. And this is a great and good thing. This is the very act that defines a hero. This is the very act that defines an American man. And now as a free and independent web-site host, he will be able to discuss sci-fi at his discretion. It's possible that he will be discussing sci-fi to a total of four listeners. But this makes him no less a patriot. God bless NiteShdw, and God bless America, land of the free, home of the internet, and angry drunken men. In it's short time many have come to appreciate what it has had to offer. As a first time poster I feel appalled that anyone who has been using these sites freely has the gall to slander anyone knowing full well it is them breaking th laws not the site owners. The Site provides a service. As with all services the owners reserves the right to refuse service to anyone/all at any time. There are thousands of other sites to leech your stuff from.. Go there.
