Mav
Data not whistle??? He whistles in Encounter at Farpoint (The First Ep) at time index 00:55:23 He is whistling pop goes the weasle. Which he says he needs much practice.... It is said that he cannot use contractions but he does (accidentally) in several episodes. That's what we're talking about, that specific episode. He can whistle to a certain extent but not very well and not nearly as good as a human can. Thus, this entire thread ;p

Mav
See it's just those types of senarios where Data's emotion chip needed to be used. Think about it.. Worf standing at Tactical Worf: All signs reading normal Captain. Picard: Alright, Helm take us into a normal orbit and began scans of the star There's a very very faint poof sound, easily drowned out by all stations LCAR's buttons being pressed during usage. Data: Captain..there is.. *sniff sniff* Aw god damnit it Worf, rare gaguk* at breakfast again?

motoxjesse
Oh man thats so totaly true, like even if the Shatner started his own show, i'd watch it...maybe, but yeah Mav this whole Data thing has brought up another question......wat happened to Lore??? i just dont remember.......i think he "died" right?
Mav
AFAIK the last time we saw Lore was the season 6 finale/season 7 premiere "Descent". I know he was deactivated for a fact in Descent part 2 (s7 premiere). I'm pretty sure they were going to dismantle him, either it was assumed or they mentioned it would be done. That was the last we saw of him. So he's probably sitting some place either in a box/storage or being studied in some place like the Daystrom Institute. motoxjesse
Oh so in a sense it would have been easy to bring Data back right??
Steveo
Oh, like the episode generator couldn't have churned out a time travel episode, or some such to bring him back anyway. If they bring Data back, which I doubt they could because Spiner is getting old now, it would be such a proposterous story line. Nothing new there then. motoxjesse
well wat if they bring him back in a diffrent way, like he is made human or something, think about the possibilities, if some force made him wat he always wanted to be, then it wouldn't matter how old he was
bones2097
like pinocchio ??? :)
Arktis
I think it's safe to say that it would make Data's character lose all his "magic". Now if he were somehow "borged", as in altered by the borg to be part human/part android, that would be cool. We already saw that it was possible in First Contact. Tenebrae
Data - and Pinocchio is a good example - was a character who DEFINED himself as being in search of humanity... it's like that episode where Riker gets Q's powers and he offers Data humanity but Data turns him down. At the end of the day, it's not the destination. It's the journey. We all end up dead in the end... but it's really how we lived our life to that point that defines who we are. Most importantly - Spiner has said he's not coming back to play Data. Oh sure, there are a million ways the character could be resurrected. This is Star Trek, after all... but really, that's just going to make his act of sacrifice - some might say an act which showed supreme humanity - so... trite. motoxjesse
Yeah i guess i forgot about that whole sacrifice thing, but it still would be nice i guess, even to bring back Lore as some kind of federation bad guy
