Weyoun Posted April 14, 2005 Share Posted April 14, 2005 I think that this is an important issue, and I see no problem with discussing it, but if you look at a lot of what this has turned into (especially the latest pages, from last count we are at 11...), we need to moderate some of what is going on here, especially the BorisP vs. Everyone thing. Both sides are starting to get abusive. I had a few posts there, and when Boris disagreed with me, I tried to come up with some well reasoned responses. It quickly became apparent to me that was accomplishing nothing. I stopped posting to it for right now, but I have been appalled with what I have seen happening. It is now where we have [people] going down to the level of simply saying calling others "fat" as being their principle argument. If this topic can be saved, try. Remove some of these off topic and rude remarks. If not, there isn't much choice at this point but to lock it. Oh, and if it is locked, someone should probably lock this, or we will end up with "is the gay/straight poll poll poll poll poll... getting out of hand?" However done in all seriousness, don't bet your life on a discussion or argument or disagreement so don't get off and get too dead-serious even if something is quite serious. People are bombarded here with so much gay stuff they don't know what to think. The church says no, the friends say no, the parents say no, the TV says yes, the republicans say no, the democrats say yes, the movies say yes. People get really confused and are trying to separate the truth from the falsehoods. It's funny - you inspired me to do some similar reflecting on a slightly different subject: In the USA there is a big push to talk people into being black. Every show on TV has a black character. Thank Deus we've already started! Niteshdw has been doing a great job inserting those subliminal messages in his Star Trek episodes, and our recent Gay/Straight pole shows that they really are working! And our friends at Splenda® have done a wonderful job at creating an artificial sweetner that activates the Gay regions of the brain. It's just too bad that our infiltration of the Catholic priesthood went so poorly... if only we'd supplied them with a little less Viagra™... maverick Posted April 16, 2005 Share Posted April 16, 2005 i think on british tv there was a phase of trying to turn the nation a bit alan titchmarsh :rolleyes: a worthy pursuit no doubt but im over qualified in the height dept he was on morning noon and night!! but seriously the above poll says freedom of speech is the most important thing. perhaps it it if there is something worth saying. the topic seems to have evolved. the topic could be suspended indefinately due to the contents being off topic. it started as an enquiry about how people feel about things but now is becoming something else. sticking to the rules people agree on doesnt mean disrespecting their opinions. however elderbear could put himself in an unpopular position by making such a decision. what do we gain by keeping it open? we have our freedom of speech, anyone who feels strongly enough can re-open another similar topic without problem. but freedom of speech canbe used inappropriately like anything else.
