  1. Ah winfixer. It's a pain. A lot of times this program is installed because people get a little pop up saying their computer is at risk! or is compromised! or is infected! That little popup isn't winfixer. It's usually the Vundo virus. From any number of the previous posts you should be able to remove winfixer. If the pop up to install it keeps coming back, try running VundoFix.exe from www.atribune.org. If you still can't seem to get rid of it after running the suggested programs you can email me at my username (which is Kiznik) @telus.net and I'll help you. -Kiznik
  2. Dang that BS Player! I use to use it a lot too, but I stopped because I upgraded to a newer version that kept crashing, and I reverted back to using MPC. I'm still using MPC, and I had actually considered trying another new version of BS Player, but not anymore. I understand the need for revenue, but they've got to know that market position outweighs whatever revenue they're getting for the adware 10:1. Oh well. Nice knowing ya BS Player, RIP.
  3. That device looks like rad. Especially because I could buy one, and then I'd never have to keep upgrading video cards as time went on, I could keep using that same hookup. I'm gonna go back and check again to see if there's a verson that's DVI.
  4. I drink it because my girlfriend likes it. I never disliked it but I'm starting to like it more. Actually, if you steep it in steamed milk and add a bit of vanilla and sugar, that's called a "London Fog". And it's REALLY good. I first found out it was called a London fog at an airport somewhere on my way back from Thailand. My girlfriend had just introduced me to drinking it like that, and I missed her and wanted to have some on the way home. The guy serving me was Asian, and had an accent, and he said "Did you know that's called a London Frog?" I was like oh okay, cool. But I didn't know if he meant "Fog" or if he really did mean "Frog". I asked a Starbucks person when I got back to Canada and they set me straight. :p

How right you are. Take it for what it's worth - not for what you wish it was worth. And I'm not demeaning any aspect of Star Trek: the "sillyness" is necessary in order for the episode to focus on the story / making it's point.
  6. I think the borg queen was a bad idea altogether. The concept of the borg as an alien swarm of cybernetic creatures was much cooler without having one creature with powers of control over it. It sort of defeats the whole purpose of the borg, if you ask me. One of the many ####ups of Voyager. Yeah I agree. It really doesn't make sense. I suppose that for the hive to make decisions that go out and effect all the borg drones there needs to be a centralized command of some sort, and I guess that's what she is. But to say that the Queen is somehow better than the drones defeats the purpose. I'd rather believe that she's only there to oversee the massive central command computers that gather the info from the rest of Borg.
  7. Good tip. Actually... the bootscreen changer did give me blue screens occasionally. I leave it turned off now. :D The StarDock bootscreen changer doesn't do any damage to the original logo in my case. It adds a .dll file that loads at the beginning of the OS loading sequence. When you disable it, everything goes back to normal. I bet there is a way to overwrite your regualar boot screen though: thankfully I haven't done that.
  8. It'd be pretty hard to blame THAT on your processor. Are you particularly interested in actually narrowing it down to see what the problem is?
  9. The only Star Trek game that I played a lot was "Star Trek: The Next Generation" for gameboy. It was fun, but it wasn't really special. But all I had at the time was a game boy, so I played what was available.
  10. That's why they'd benefit from some of my ideas! You speak the truth: I've never seen a Borg run. Did they take that out to save space in the brain or something??? Imagine if Borg moved even as well as a fit human: pretty difficult to stop.
  11. Of course that's just the ancient version, as reported by wikipedia.org. A commonly used modern version can be seen at www.pbs.org/.../oath_modern.html. This version was written by the Dean of Tufts School of Medicine.
  12. I use the utilities available at www.Stardock.com I use their programs to change my boot screen to a cool fish instead of the winXP logo, my logon to another cool looking fish, and my windows style to lots of different skins. I also sometimes use their desktop widgets they have available. My girlfriend especially loves being able to change her profile to look like a cartoon or like spring.

    Logs

Heh heh yeah. And it would have insanely loud Midi music playing in the background while the crack was working, and the "no sound" button would be impossible to find until after you've woken up everyone on your deck.
  14. Nah, Borg have free will I think. They just understand that it's going to be best for the collective for them to remain in the collective. Maybe they have free will, but just aren't selfish with it, but at the same time don't really respect anyone else who is different. Getting someone to leave the collective is training them to be selfish and respect everyone's right to be selfish.
  15. 1.) Klingon Because I'd love a chance to live in a culture with honor. 2.) Q Because I'd like to be able to experience everything, and I'd like to know who the Qs report to. 3.) Borg Because I'd like the chance to learn from millions, and because my ideas added to the collective would probably rock their socks.
  16. I agree. The finale "These Are The Voyages" was such a let down. What did it add to the series? Nothing (except a William Riker that bore no resemblence to the real Riker). But I'd have to say Season 4 Episode 1 "Storm Front Part 1" was even worse. They just ended a great season and so they introduce some new token bad guy race, take everybody into the past, and completely forget what has happened in the last 2 years. It reminds me of a story I wrote in grade 2. I'm surprised they didn't end that arc with "And then they all woke up and it was all just a dream, the end." They spend a whole season building up to averting war with the Xindi, and then that's the last we ever hear if them. If it hadn't been for that episode, I bet it would still be on the air.

    Logs

In the cases I remember where logs were deleted they usually knew whose log had been deleted, from what terminal it had been deleted, and in a lot of cases, who's "login" deleted them. I think to delete a log the person must use the "login" of someone who has access. For example, most Lieutenants probably have access to change almost any sensor log, etc, and the Ensigns have access to change the logs in their area of expertise. They could make them "undeletable", but then there would just be more episodes where someone found a way to delete undeletable logs.
  18. I had a Radeon 9000 and I played Quake 3 for hours, and I experienced the same thing: computer shut down. The graphics card has the ability to tell the motherboard "I'm experiencing more than I can handle, please shut it all down." On some motherboards it will reboot, on some it will shut down. I'm interested to know the results of any changes you make to determine for sure what the problem is.
  19. Definitely sounds like your graphics card is over heating. Try changing the quality settings and resolution of the game down all the way and see if it still happens. If it is your graphics card that is causing the crash, it could be because the card is inadequate or it could be that it's not receiving enough power. But... I believe the Nvidia GeForce FX 5900 has a reputation for being "under fanned"... which leads to overheating. If that is what it is, and you don't want to change the graphics quality (or can't), and you don't want to buy a new video card, then you can trying moving your case into an area with good air flow, and you can even take the cover off the side to increase cooling. Good luck.
  20. True, they did not explore some of the crew nearly as much as they could have, which is too bad. But on the other hand, I guess that left them time to explore deeper into other crew members.
  21. 1) TNG This series covered a wide range of topics and used the Star Trek world to communicate ideas. 2) Enterprise Enterprise deviates from the standard Star Trek ideas and explores the mind of the crew more in depth. 3) TOS I admire TOS because it's authentic and it relies on my imagination.
  22. I think it would be a "Just Monarchy". I think monarchies are underrated. Monarchies ruled the world for thousands of years and now it's like "if you're not a democracy then you're not a real country / organization" but I think that's silly. I say Niteshdw is a Monarchy.
