  1. High speed users can choose cable instead of phonelines. Can be faster or slower depending on how many people surf at the same time. but when it's fast, wow is it ever fast.
  2. Yikes, another spyware scare. I have so many anti-virus and anti-spyware programs running on my computer that I, ah no point complaining.
  3. I would be very supportive of clone wars going CG. It would allow the cartoon makers for that show to really go out there and do great things, much better than what they could achieve with traditional 2D cartoon-making techniques. Instead of little battles that look like something out of comic books they can make something that looks like a super cool computer game, unfolding before your eyes. In this way lucasfilm would be able to unleash the clone wars in a way that was only visible in computer games and more importantly, in prequel (TPM, AOTC, ROTS) quality CG!
  4. I think I can say that I've been brought up with sci-fi. I don't watch it everyday nor have I actively watched it since I was little but yeah, i kinda grew up with it. First with star trek, then star wars and other shows. anyone remember sliders? that was an awesome show back in the day and after seeing some pics on the web i think it's a show that could hold its own if re-aired on any tv channel. It was fresh in its day, appealed to viewers watching tv with their remote control (ie the little device opening that wormhole to the other dimensions). BSG was pretty good too but i never could get into the other new shows coming out in recent years.
  5. To be honest with you I've played Halo three times since it came out. Heard a lot about the game, have great respect for the game and look forward to seeing the movie when it comes out, if it comes out. But yeah, i never really got into it so to speak. I've read the discussion and I've found it very informative. Can you buy the game still for PC or is it only sold on game consoles now?
  6. Myself I've watched how sci-fi has evolved over the last few years. I can't say I like it because they all look alike, play alike, and progress alike. BSG is different and somewhat fresh but what we need is a new sci-fi concept, not just a rehash of something done before. That's what plagued enterprise throughout its run. Action and violence aren't needed to make good sci-fi. Neither are nudes or sex on tv, that kind of thing can be relegated to other tv genres (like Bravo or those late night channels).
  7. Don't tell me Lucas is going to release another batch of star wars dvds. This newly released one is way too expensive for what it actually has. If I were Lucas I would seriously consider not releasing the trilogy again for at least 5 years. That way the market doesn't get saturated in sw dvds like it did with sw videos. It's so not needed, really there is no point, WE ALL HAVE THE STAR WARS MOVIES ALREADY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! There is no need to release anymore editions of star wars. No HD version is needed. The dvds are about as good as it can really get for the first trilogy and as for the prequels, well the dvds for those are pretty good compared to other dvds on the market.

    jokes

President Bush had a personal library in his house until very recently when it burned down. The library only had two books but it was all he had. When asked if he was down about it, he expressed sorrow over not being able to finish colouring the second book.
  9. You may have heard the idea back in Enterprise's run about Shatner playing a mirror Kirk in an episode for season 4. What do you think about Shatner playing mirror (bad guy) Kirk in the next Star Trek movie?

    Internet Video fun

you might want to go to youtube and find the directTV commercial with Shatner playing Kirk. Shows he still has some Kirk left in him. There's another one there from sometime in the 90s and it features Scotty and Kirk, although it looks like Kirk's head was superimposed on men and women in the commercial. Sounds insane but it was quite funny.
  11. Is the Colbert Report what it's hyped up to be? Stewart/Colbert for 2008?
  12. Ugh, politics, the drink of the masses...
  13. voyager was a hard thing to push through to completion. I mean, a seventy year voyage in just 7 years? That's really tough to pull off. Janeway had a hard job on her hands, one she was not prepared for and one where she did make mistakes.

    Star trek idea

I think any new idea for Star Trek should wait until they come up with a revolutionary, NEW idea, with NEW tech concepts and NEW storylines. It's really bad to rehash the same stories over and over again.
  15. It would have been hard for them to design more futuristic consoles. Perhaps they could have used holograms?
  16. It's good. Concise and to the point, and easy to load into my browser. That's really important for web pages.
  17. That was priceless! Shatner's looks haven't changed much I think. Have you seen that new TV commercial with him playing Kirk? You can catch it on youtube. That one was good too, showed Shatner still has some Kirk years left in him. It will be hard to bring him back though after what, 12 years? I hope they do bring him back as he is the quintessential star trek captain.
  18. I myself am captivated about star trek. We pretty much live with appliances that were popularized in star trek, diskettes, touch-screen controls, even rudimentary tricorders (100 times the size of TNG tricorders, oh well). Voyager really made technology look great and completely normal for people to use. TNG was getting there but not quite as there as voyager.
  19. Hi, anyone remember Star Trek Bridge Commander? It is an old game from 2002. It still has a large following four years later. You can find some info about the game and a big fan community at bcfiles.com. It does have files available for download but none of them are the game itself, only demo/patch and fan-made addons like the Constitution-Refit and Intrepid classes. It's completely legal as far as I know and is a great resource for all you Trek fans out there. I play BC from time to time, with a few addons like the NX-01. It can decimate BOPs, Galaxy class cruisers and a host of other stock ships.
  20. I noticed a lot of old games don't run too well under DOSBOX. I have this one stashed away somewhere. It's really good, the voices of the cast were done back in '96. Yes that includes Scotty and McCoy. Kirk sounds a lot like he did in STVI and Generations. It's a worthy buy for anyone interested in TOS. I notice a lot of people on this site are into these star trek, star wars and other games. It's great to finally find a site with such a large following for computer games.
  21. Interesting that star wars fans are doing that. I hope it works out because the subscriptions are so expensive for poorer people.

    BATTLEFIELD 2142

I've played BF once or twice. Is this series realistic to the time it depicts?
  23. Thank you TFMF for welcoming me to the site. Any strategy game, hmmm.... How about Annals of Rome? It's an old 1986 game with CGA graphics but is one of the most complex games I've ever played, and hard too. At any time in the game you face up to 13 independent nations all trying to conquer as much of the Roman World as possible. You, playing the role of decision-maker of the Roman Empire, have to defend Rome from enemies striking from all sides. This task is complicated by internal politics and barbarian invasions. Successful players build up the Roman Empire by attacking the main rivals early on in the game, expanding the empire to emcompass the entire Roman World and defending it from wave after wave of barbarian onslaught. The game also requires you to maintain internal stability within the empire as frequent changes of emperor can leave the empire vulnerable to attack after successive civil wars. Annals of Rome is a great game and worth a try. Does this site talk a great deal about strategy games?
