sonyk Posted December 8, 2005 Share Posted December 8, 2005 maybe that was a bad example but VOY is still made to defend itself so why not put technology they already have like the quad-torps and Defiant was a top secret project a few years before Voy, I mean the other races or whatever must know about it by now so why not equip every ship with them? Even then the ship was in experimental stage [hence the registry NX] and Quad-cobalt torps weren't even created or introduced till the 6th season of DS-9... by which time VOY has already had their run ins with the BORG. Sooo technically no... other than the pulse phasers... n quantum torps... none of the tech were available whn VOY went into service. Plus... once the Quntum torps got approved... Prometheus n Sovereign got them... n they were slowly upgrading all their ships. Sooo in retrspect... VOY IS and older ship than DEFIANT... in a sense that the NCC class defiants didn't come out of factory till 6th season... n VOY got lost around the time GENERATIONS came out... as in Sovereign class was getting created. Sooo to be honest... the most powerful n latest model FED ships are... DEFIANT... SOVEREIGN n PROMETHEUS. Not INTREPID. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Just look at how Sisko handles the Dominion. Voyager is ugly, really ugly, just like the rest of the ships who ever had anything to do with Jupiter Station. VOY is the only FED ship with bio-neural circuits. I guess losing a ship with its shakedown crew really didn't give Starfleet enough incentive to try again. But look at PROMETHEUS... its a more sleek n agile design like VOY... firepower like DEFIANT... seperation ability like GALAXY n toughness like a SOVEREIGN. Sooo INTREPID is a good ship for escort and fast strikes... but it ain't no explorer [Galaxy n Sovereign] or a Warship [Defiant n Promethus] Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I got 1 question. All the fed ships have the MAIN Deflector... that well... basically deflects... stuff... like space debris etc for them to move about in space. BEANs. ;) Hehehe... that line shud DEFINTELY flame up some fanboys :p. But seriously... I have yet to see a Romulan ship that's uber powerful like the DEFIANT... SOVEREIGN or PROMETHEUS. Haven't seen the new Dextra type A so I don't know about that. BUT I have seen the normal n the modified warbirds and the ones in NEMESIS... other than the cloaks... neither were very impressive. mateya Posted December 9, 2005 Share Posted December 9, 2005 cocky peacocks the federation :) just a small thought from peacekeeper here - isnt the supremacy in battle also dependend oh the terrain and tactics? for example: if it would be fought on deep space terrain with no civilisations nearby and voyager would use tactis which dont include head to head batlle; I think defiant would not be able to use his advantages fully, they would be pretty much even.. what do you think? OR the quad cobalt torps... Or the ablative armour. Sooo the 1st confrontation will obviously be a head to head... Defiant fires pulse phasers... VOY realises they r outclassed. The escape... Defiant cloaks... finds VOY... induces more damage. By this time JANEWAY would be pissed... 7 would find some flaw in the ships design... they'd try to engage DEFIANT. Defiant would act vulnarable... then VOY discover that Defiant's got ablative armour... too late... Defiant blows them up with quad-cobalt torps. PLUS... Sisko can always pull a fast one on Janeway like KIRK did in Wrath or Khan. He has the starfleet signature acess codes to VOY... he can say he's surrendureing n send the code to get control of VOY n shut down their shields. BAAAMMM... quantum torps to the reactor. mateya Posted December 9, 2005 Share Posted December 9, 2005 sheesh, youre such a party spoiler ;) why the assumption that the confrontation has to be head to head? if they get their orders to fight through other channels (message from star fleet - lets say the romulans developed a plot and made transmissions to both of the ships that the other ship is taken over), they wouldnt start with head to head batlle. and thats a completely different story.. so, give me stories on that please :) edit: to make thing more interesting, lets assume that jayneway is aware that she doesnt know defiant capabilities (she knows that "upgrades" are made but she doesnt know what they are) Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

They both get told by the supposed starfleet that the ships belong to the enemy and must be destroyed at all cost. But neither know the capability of the other ship... except that... they are both special... so be careful. Janeway will sit down with the senio staff to figure out what to do... 7 will be told to keep track of the ship n B'lanna n Tuvok will be told to find weakness. They'd try to scout it. Sadly... since SISKO would be expecting an attack too... he'd just cloak and be on VOY's tail to find out more about her. Somehow Harry Kim will find the ship out... Janeway will go don't act like we've detected them BUT ready photon torps full volley... n fire on my mark. Chief O'Brian will reaslise that cloak is penetrated n realise that they r loading the torps. Defiant decloaks... full shield... VOY fire torps full volley. Defiant dodges some... but get hit. Sisko says move in closer... VOY fires phasers... but misses since DEFIANT is too fast. Defiant maneuvers near and keep firing the pulse phasers. VOY shield cracks... they try to ompensate BUT that's exactly what Sisko was waiting for. He fires the flux torpedoes and their entire warp drive goes hayway. Janeway starts screaming... Sisko orders fire... full volley of quantum torps... VOY... damaged... they try to run away while firing some more photon torps but DEFIANT's pulse phasers make short work of them then BAAAMMM... quad-cobalt torp... VOY is toast. We must forget that Voyager was able to survive Borg and Species 8472, because these stories were written especialy for the fans - sure voyager had to face Borg when in Delta Quadrant, and sure he had to win, because otherwise it woud be an end of series, woudn't be? We shoud also presume that both ships have same captain and officers to make this comparison realy objective. So now its just about qualities of each ship. Defiant has stronger hull plus ablative armor which Voyager has not. It also has better protected warp engines, pulse phasers in addition to normal ones, quantum torpedoes. Voyager has only photons whitch are no so powerful as quantums. And those pulse phasers are suposed to be more powerful than classic type X phasers as well. Not to mention better manoeuvrability, cloaking device, regenerative shileds. So only advantage of Voyager is probably its better speed. So if we take all the pluses and minuses, I believe that Defiant would win such a skirmish. Yeah - i agree Vemec - Voyager tried more just for the fans and the Borg/8472 stories were good examples of this. The Defiant battles were more serious and were beleivable. A good example of Voyager 'showing off' had to be in Renaissance Man when we saw Torres climbing the walls - and the Doc jumping through walls.
