  1. Yea I wouldn't let people make forums personally. Keep the forum traffic for nitescifi.com's forums.
  2. here's a much better version of the teaser
  3. Personally, I think since they have to go out with this season, go out with a bang, of personal preportions. Not just some huge space fight or mega sun explosions. I think the people of Earth need to be made aware. All 7 billion humans on Earth need to know just how far we've gone in 11 years (counting the 1 year gap between the movie and season 1). How much we've learned, grown. New medicines to help the sick, new technology to help save lives. Storyline wise, I got a rough idea. The Ori do something that is basically an all out attack on Earth. Something so big and massive that the SGC and gang cannot just contain the secret so they come out and tell the world. They could show clips of how the public is reacting over the course of a week or so. Then make the Ori threat on Earth even MORE imminent and quickened. Like suddenly they've sped up their attack plans or something. The catch? Carter or whoever comes up with a defense or counter attack BUT it puts Earth in jeopardy. We're talking an outcome Earth seriously might not survive. Somehow word leaks out to the public of the SGC's plan and the public, some of them, aren't happy. They don't want the entire world to be destroyed on some off chance we might defeat the Ori. The minority outcry makes the world's governments and SGC reconsider what to do. Then cut again to the media, as they say how their getting massive amounts of letters, calls, emails etc from all over the world from every day average people telling the SGC to fight back, defend our home, save humanity..... And of course the SGC would pwn the Ori, Earth is saved and now all of humanity knows life outside our solar system exists, we aren't alone. And they have alot of catching up to do ;) What do you think? Should some huge battle take place? Should Daniel pull some lost historical reference out of a book somewhere to find the answers? Does O'Neill ever get to name a ship Enterprise?
  4. The only thing I disliked about the Ori story arc is, it seems like an excuse really. Like ok they had Ancients and Ascended Ancients. Two generally good forms of people, both powerful. So they take the same race, make an evil version, ascend them and boom we get the Ori.. The Ori are just the polar opposites of ascended Altarans...
  5. http://www.scifi.com/scifiwire/index.php?category=0&id=37607 Pardon me Nite...however FUCK! They can't end SG-1...they just can't. The Ori have barely been given any time. Good Replicators vs Evil Ones, come on! They've got some stellar material for an 11th season *cry* Just when Ben Browder got conformtable and Claudia Black was becoming a regular...... :( Atlantis gets a 4th season and probably several others. But no SG-1 :( Frakking farbotz what the hazmania is up with that :(
  6. I occasionally catch a good Roast from time to time but this weeks victim is William Shatner. For those that don't get CC or never seen a Roast, a Roast is where a "guest" is basically torn to shreds verbally by fellow actors and comedians (out of respect but all in good fun). Needless to say this weeks "guest" is Captain James T. Kirk himself, William Shatner. It's on tonight Sunday 8/20/2006 (its encore is on atm but it'll be playing again soon). Some of the Roasters include George Takei, Nichelle Nichols, Farrah Facette, etc special cameos by Leonard Nimoy, Ben Stiller, etc Oh and for Warp 11 fans, they aired a short montage near the beginning of the show and their hit single Everything I Do (I Do With William Shatner) was played. Very nice to see Warp 11 get some national tv exposure! Please support them, best Star Trek themed band there is http://www.warp11.com
  7. That had to be, the best episode ever. LOVED all the little inside jokes. Like the nod to all the Daniel/Jack slash fiction fans at the "wedding" of Jack and Sam ;p The Farscape bit was obvious but still pretty damn funny, an Asgarde as Rygel rofl.. The "young edgier" version SG-1 was just great. "Dude, she was TOTALLY a Goa'uld!" "Yea, I'd still tap that." "Yo Wonderbread, how them symbols coming?" bahahahaha.... Only downside? SciFi heavily hyped Richard Dean Anderson as being in this episode, when in fact he was in it for less than 10 minutes, at the end of the episode. The other appearances of him were just flashbacks from previous episodes. I finally clued in, at the end there, that Mission 30108 (the one Mitchell wasn't told about) was his party for his 200th trip through the gate. Though why they'd celebrate that? Obviously you'd think they'd do the same thing for O'Neill and such many years ago but it made it a more episodal thing than something you easily bought. The bit about O'Neill being his father was quite amusing. Overall kick ass episode. Hilarious. Oh and FURLINGS!!!!!!, they look liked Ewoks on steroids.
  8. Well this episode kinda re-wrote Replicator canon... The girl from SG-1 who was a human-form Replicator/Robot made "toys" (which were Replicators) that went on to destroy her people. She was created by her father who if I recall, put her in stasis before he and the others died. Now wouldn't this mean the girl's father, was either pre-ascended Ancient, Ori or someone will the knowledge of these people? That also makes the Ancients potentiall even more hypocritical. Think about it if the Replicators are Ancient made, then they are responsible for all the damage they did to our galaxy AND the Peagus galaxy yet as we know, Ascended Ancients don't bother to lend a hand even when it's directly their fault. Good episode. Really enjoyed it.

    Captain Archer

One sec.. Nesscary Roughness (got the name slightly wrong). It's a football movie (American). Not to mention it had Kathy Ireland as some nice eye candy.
  10. something about that made me crack up laughing... also hilarious

    Captain Archer

I think of it in reverse Season 1 = Best Season 2 = Quite Good Season 3 = A toss up of Bad and WTF story lines (though I admit to liking a few of the action episodes) Season 4 = Quite Good I loved season 1. Humanity's first deepspace voyage via a Starfleet vessel. All the little quirks of humans, wearing baseball caps, movie night, buttons to open doors. Great stuff. As for Bakula, he's always been a great actor in my eyes. Quantum Leap was great, as well as his occasional movie roles Unnesscary Ruthness, Major League 3, etc
  12. I still don't think Deuterium is that "common". If you watch some Voyager episodes, from time to time they are running on minimum power cause their "low" on deuterium and need to find a source of it to replenish their supply.
  13. happy birthday Sassa973! ;)
  14. I figure those that have studied ship schematics and systems might know the answer to this. How does a Federation starship, use fuel? Let's use Voyager as an example. Throughout the series, three types of "fuel" are mentioned; - the traditional Dilithum Crystals that have been "powering" ships since ENT/TOS - Deuterium which also seems to power the ship's systems - Anti-Matter which is needed to achieve a Warp field (fusion of matter and anti matter creates a Warp reaction) Now, I wonder how they all work together? Like, Anti-Matter is basically the gas that powers the engines. Does Dilithium help this process or channel it's energy? And is Deuterium needed in conjunction with both to power such things as the Main Computer Core and other ships systems? Based on the "rarity" of Deuterium, Dilithium and Anti-Matter (and canon) we know they can't be replicated. Dilithium has to be mined, Anti-Matter is stored and replenished whenever they can "refuel" a ship, and I'm not sure if Deuterium just comes in some form of energy/plasma or if it's a rock composite (Memory Alpha lacks a entry on Deuterium). Did the writers kind of just neglect this in other series? I know at least once in TNG, Riker mentions that if they kept up a speed of Warp 9.99~ they'd eventually run out of fuel and resources. But in ENT, TOS, etc I can only recall them mentioning Dilithium and Anti-Matter (lord knows who can forget Trip mentioning the Anti-Matter Injectors every other episode?) Are there any thorough sites I can read up on ships functions?
  15. That was more of a interactive vision. I mean, she didn't change any events at all, or at least we never saw the timeline change. Despite the fact she took on the role of what, one of her mother's friends/other Bajor slave girls, the timeline just stayed the same. In the end she just saw the events of the Occupation on DS9 as they happened.
  16. One problem though, "fairness". Look at it this way, say the unit of Starfleet/The Federation that Braxton works for (the ones that monitor and police the timeline) intervene to stop the Borg, or the Xindi or whoever right? Why didn't they intervene to stop Future Janeway from helping Present Janeway get home using technology from the future in "Endgame"? Are we to believe they only monitor "bad guys"? We know for a fact that changing even the slightest thing can often offset all of a timeline, even when the intentions are good i.e. when Braxton wanted to make sure Janeway wouldn't timetravel anymore so he wouldn't end up crazy in the future. Self preservation seems noble enough but the *ahem* "time cops" for lack of a better word, stopped him. Yet no one stops Janeway? Time travel has always been a convienant plot device for writers. And yea it's fun for viewers too but it's pretty one sided to allow certain people to get away with it and punish others for trying.
  17. man no one mentioned Farscape? or Babylon 5?!?... Definitely check these out - Stargate SG-1 seasons 1-9 (season 10 just started playing in America) - Stargate Atlantis seasons 1-2 (season 3 just started playing in America) *note* I'd recommend seeing the Stargate movie first. It was made, many years ago (14?ish) and sets up the story for SG-1. You don't have to see it to follow the story but it helps. - Farscape seasons 1-4 - Farscape: Peace Keeper Wars miniseries (wraps up the cliffhanger ending of season 4) *note* Farscape was really, great stuff. Hilarious, action packed, and one of the few science fiction "romances" that actually worked well. Ben Browder and Claudia Black deserve Emmies for their performance in that show. - Babylon 5 seasons 1-5 - Babylon 5 handful of movies (I don't know all the names) *note* Basically for each season of "B5", there was a made-for-tv movie that helped progress events or show events that weren't shown during the series. AFAIK, you don't need to see these to follow the show but they help alot. Season 1 you might find dry and slow, thats a common opinion for most fans. Season 1 will be what we call a "building season" it sets up the other 4 seasons and trust me, the story kicks into gear towards the end of season 1. It was short, like Farscape, but it was written specifically for 5 television seasons, that's the arc the story takes and it never feels rushed or hurried or slacking at any point. It truly is a great series, one I hold up there with Star Trek. - Battlestar Galactica (new version) seasons 1-2 (3 starting in October 06 in America) - Battestar Galactica Miniseres (new version) *Note* it was mentioned in the above posts but it's worth mentioning again. Worth it. Totally worth it. Make sure you watch the 3 hour mini series before starting season 1, it really sets up alot of the show before season 1. S3 starts in a little over a month. - Dr Who, well there's technically 28 seasons *Note* but if you just want to start fresh and really save a huge chunk of time, start with Dr. Who season 27 also known as Dr. Who 2005/Dr. Who Series 1. This is the 9th Doctor, Eccleston. There is also a Christmas special between each season, so far at least. Really recommend it. - Lost, seasons 1-2 (3 starting in September/October 06) *Note* not officially science fiction since the writers have said all events on the show are technically plausible in real life, it is however pretty border line science fiction. Watch season 1 at least and you'll understand. If you ever liked Alias, it was written by the man JJ Abrams so it's quality. Hope that helps.
  18. Loved both Buffy and Angel. Great series. Huge Joss Whedon fan. Really, great shows. S7 of Buffy, Spike and her together was just bliss. The fact that Spike would fight to the death to gain his soul back just for her, some of the best tv ever written. And Angel? I can't even pinpoint a single great thing, all 5 seasons were spectacular. Though I wish Doyle had stuck around (won't spoil it past that).
  19. Yea, bad idea. A link at the top of the forums is what's preferred. This extra frame is just making normal forum use a hassel. Apon first visiting the forum the average user will have to wait for it to load Java, then decline it so it doesn't load the applet, and then they still have the window at the bottom (which yea it can be resized but still). Atm I turned off Java for nitescifi.com since I use normal mIRC
  20. I remembered a bit of dialogue Seven of Nine had "Dark Frontier" circa season 5 that was along the lines of "The Collective has tried two assaults directly on Earth and failed, including time travel". She didn't tell Janeway further information but we can easily assume she meant the events in First Contact obviously. And that started me thinking that is the biggest plot hole in Trek canon to date. Look at the points of importance in the matter; The Borg have the technology to time travel. They sent one Cube which later launched one Sphere into Earth's orbit to time travel back intime to assimilate humanity at an earlier stage of our development as a species. Stop. Think. Why not just go back, farther in time, away from Earth, and attack then? The Queen has said "We are patient." referring to the Borg species, they can bide their time. I can probably clue into your first question or answer; "Well maybe for the Borg time travel technology to work, they have to be in close proximity to their destination in the past, i.e. Earth's orbit now to end up in Earth's orbit several hundred years in the past?" I thought so too. Then the Queen's quote on being patient hit me like a Ferengi garbage scowl. Why not simply go back in time, many many light years from any part of Federation space where they might be detected, and go back in time there, and then begin their journey to Earth to then assimilate our species? They don't mind waiting, the Borg are a long lived culture and can reproduce easily. Theoritically their technology can run long enough with regular maintenance and by the 24th century a Fed Starship would have the fuel to travel the distance from there (that far out not to be dedicated in current Fed space) to Earth so we know the Cube could easily run on the fuel they had. Now your second statement or question is going to probably be "Well obviously it's just a show. Otherwise the Borg would just kill humans in the past, take over the Alpha Quadrant and there'd be no TNG/DS9/Voyager timelines". You'd be right in a certain sense. But we are looking at it from a storyline/plot device point of view. Until Voyager, the canon (or shall I say writers) stayed away from the Borg at it's heart. Sure we managed to stop one Cube, twice. But what if the Borg sent an invasion fleet? What if they pulled a Xindi and just dropped a nanoprobe bomb from orbit via a conduit system? There'd be no chance in hell. By then it just seemed to be the most overlooked plot hole in all Trek canon. Worse than the Klingon appearance b.s. between TOS/TOS Movies/TNG era. Worse than "Warp 10". Simply put the Borg have the ability and technology to wipe humanity out at any given time from the time point of First Contact's time period (we assume from that point on they have the knowledge). And for the naysayers just remember, what one Cube knows they pretty much all know thanks to the hive mind and enhanced subspace communication. Though the one Cube and Sphere were made into dust, it's more than likely the rest of the Collective knows.
  21. Actually these theme sets aren't that bad. Money wise they could stand to be a tad cheaper, seeing as how they cost almost as much as one full season of say, TNG or DS9 (the $52 USD versions from Amazon.com) I've been trying to win the Klingon set off startrek.com In themselves they are pretty neat, theres a Q set and a Borg set as well. I'd rather have the Borg set over the Klingon set but hey if wishes were horses... I think they could have done the box art better. They just look so..templated. Black box, with the ST logo/font and name of the theme with an iconic preview on the left (Borg on the Borg set, Q on the Q set, etc). I'm interested in the Romulan set if they ever do one. They didn't get much attention over than the few Neutral Zone encounters really. Of course they are just going to make sets of every race probably. Ferengi (plenty of material), Vulcan (plenty of material) etc At least it's not Star Wars... check the money machine on that one; Original triology comes unaltered on VHS Special Edition Original triology comes to VHS Episodes 1-3 come to DVD and VHS Special Edition w/ "young Anakin" added to ROTJ comes to DVD coming soon will be Original/Enhanced edition original triology unedited to DVD probably coming soon all the above except in HD-DVD and Blu-Ray formats... Dude never needs to get a job again just keep releasing the two triologies every few years..
