heh, going by the criteria for getting the +Q's, I should be in the thirties by now. I'll hand out some + karma too, to people that I see in the CS:S server stats page logs.

I have the exact same card, and have had a somewhat similer issue in the past. The problem is that the stock fan on that GPU is garbage. Less then a 48 hours after I installed my card, the stock fan stopped working. Thankfully, when my fan stopped working I wasn't 3d gaming, or running any benchmarks at the time, so the card suffered zero damage. Same effect, the display was filled with artifacts, and the machine had to be powered down for a while, as the GPU had to cool off. The stock fans on most GPU's generally suck, and are only reliable, so long as your comp is 100% idle. As soon as you do anything (ie. move your mouse cursor, or hit the caps lock button) then the GPU fan can't really keep up with the heat build up. From my personal experience with these sorts of things (I've replaced the stock gpu cooling on ALMOST my entire immediete family's machines), whenever you buy a new graphics adapter, you should also buy a third party heatsink / fan combo at the samt time, and install it on the card before you even put the video card in the comp for the first time. Saves yourself a ton of headaches. Water cooling is the absolute best way to keep your GPU cool, but a lot of people don't like the idea of water flowing around inside their case. Rightfully so, as I lost a mother board, and a sound card due to leaks in the past. I have a off the shelf 80mm case fan rigged up in a position in my box that will be effective in the event that the GPU fan stops working (these days, happens ALL the time) Anyway, to address your concern directelly, if you were just partitioning / formatting a hard disk, then no, the video card shouldn;t have suffered very much over heating related damage, as that sort of thing is not a video intensive thing. If you were playing Half Life 2, with all the settings maxed out then yeah, you would be WAY more screwed. At most, it probabally shaved a couple of weeks off the over all life expectancy of the card. Over all system damage is a definate non-issue. You should, however look at your existing cooling system, and decide for yourself wether or not you feel the need to add in some new fans. Take a look inside your box sometime and make sure that there are no cables or wires (ESPECIALLY electrical wires from fans, or want-not) anywhere near the video card. The heat generated from it WILL melt through the plastic insulating, and if a bare wire touches anything inside your case, will result in severe electrical damage to all your components.

The only appealing aspect of vista, is the Direct X 10 upgrade that is comming out some time before the sun goes nova. DX 10, the base library of what future games will be based from, will only be released for Vista, so If you want to be playing new games at all in the next few years, you will NEED to have Vista as your OS (Unless some developers, like ID are using the OpenGL libraries, then you can use Mac or Linux). Other then that, I'm waiting untill 'hackers' develop some tools like Nlite and XP Antispy, like tools to trim the fat off this gigantic piece of bloatware, disable the hard-coded DRM, allow for third party device drivers / applications, reduced hypervisory presence, and of course, I'd like to be able to install a new video card, without having to buy a new licence for my OS. Yep. I'm sticking with PCLinuxOS, and Windows 2000 untill I absolutely have to downgrade to Vista, so I can play the next killer game.

I don't really see how she was "exilirating and controversial". Without more information as to what you're getting at here, it's hard to say wether or not Seven of Nine 'compairs'. Compairs in what way? Bocci ball? Endurance running? baloon animals? As for her being in the next series, first of all, there hasn't been any plans announced for another Trek series, and second of all, traditionally speaking, I can't think of a single instance in the Trekverse where a charecter from show a became a regulare in show b (aside from O'brien and Worf). If she was to be in the next series, that would imply that the next series would be set between enterprise adn TOS, wich I don't think would be the most likely timeframe for another Trek series.

As TFMF has slipped in recentelly in another thread, I finally got off my duff and fixed the Counter-Strike: Source server. It was offline for a long while, due to the fact that the server software is constantally being updated, and whenever that happens, and the server admin dosen't update, the clients become incompatable. This has been corrected, and should run smoothly as long as the server gets restarted (as it autoupdates when it boots) every couple of days. Since I am only one man, and I have a lot of other projects and personal issues to attend to, I have recruited a couple of guys to help out with supervising everything, so that this dosen't happen again. TFMF, Mad_Martha and myself will all be the ingame admins, and TFMF and I will also see to installing mods, keeping the server up to date, and all that other dull behind the scenes things that no one else likes doing. You'll also notice a new module in the side bar in the forums, detailing the information relating to the gaming server. As new servers are added (new servers will be released at some point in time, probabally before Duke Nukem Forever is released) this module will be updated aquardingly as well as the Gaming home page. Again, if anyone reading this runs their own game server and would like to spread the news, please do drop me a line.

Absolutely. have fun with gaming, lads. if theres anything you need from me, let me know. Just remember that RTS games don't require servers (so don't ask for C&C), and the server is Linux, so any games suggested will require a dedicated linux server app.

If only admins can use BBcode, then may I be bold enough to suggest that someone (likely NiteShdw :P ) accidentelly set the permission for BBcode usage for admins only, thinking it was some thing else? maybe the check box for "Admin cpanel" was placed right next to "BBcode" and the wrong box got hit. Lord knows that after hours of scripting / configging I've done the exact same thing.

I don't really understand the point of it, really. It seems to be nothing more then a popularity poll. I could see if a high karma / Q'ness have you some kind of bonus (like one of my earlier comments regarding donations) or something. I suppose that people with a higher karma rating would be taken more seriouslly, and have a higher level of respect and "say" then somebody in the negitives, though, so it's not entirely irrelevent. Now, where's BorisP and theaveng so we can all vote against them?
