  1. Oh hey Tenabre, you forgot to mention "Solving whatever problem in the last 5 miniutes of an episode, by the engineer ratteling off a 2 page monolouge of nonsence." and "Trying to blow up the ship, hoping the bad guys won't call your bluff, then deactivating it once they take off." and of course, the entire concept of synthohol, and the fact that replicators can create seemingly anything, besides gold pressed latinum. Now, I'm not the worlds biggest trek cultist, but I just can;t believe that knowing how much the ferengi's love money, that there is no ferengi group smart enough to figure out how to rig a replicator up to print their own money, or bribe some federation / vulcan, or whoever to do it? Come on.
  2. What is exactelly being defined as "Star Trek", here? Is that the entire franchise, including the movies, all 5 TV series, and everything, or "Star Trek" as in The Orignal Series? Like it's been said before, the 2 things arn't the same, and can't really be compaired in a <, >, or = sort of way. The only thing they really have in common is both shows take place on a space ship in the future. Even then, the ships from any form of Trek were all designed and built by a huge monolithic federation, where as Firefly was basiclly a home made ship that barely worked from day to day. Trek was all about cool looking aliens of the week, the cool CGI space battle of the month, where as Firefly didn;t have any aliens at all ( that I can remember), and Serenety by design, didn't really have any armorment (again, that I can recall). I like Trek basiclly for the cool gadgets they have, and the occasional good episide (not really that frequent, now that I've been watching an arseload of other Sci-fi shows). I like Firefly becuase they're basiclly merceneries, living day to day with no "Federation Privleges", doing whatever they feel like doing, based on their individual sence of morality. Committing crimes one day, and doing good deeds the next.
  3. I'm really digging this new series. It's exactelly my kind of sci fi, instead of focusing all the attention of the alien of the week, fancy ship battles / combat scenes, it's an all earth based human series, based on when experements go wrong, and the people that have to deal with it. I really like how it isn't star trek / stargate, as in they have to rely on aliens, impending doom or what not to make stories entertaining.
  4. Yeah, you'd think that the Federation would have the technichal ability to install a couple of surge protectors for the computer consoles accross the ship. What was pretty cliche in TOS, was that they spent more time traveling through time, or to planets that were exactelly like periods of Earth's past (like Rome, the 30's, the renesonce, etc) then actually brawling with the Klingons, drinking, or getting Kirk laid. You know, the things that made the show worth watching.
  5. Ever try Sid Meier's Alpha Centuari? I'm not sure if it was concitered to be in the civ. family of games or not ( same general game play as civ. 3, with a ton of differences). It was a hell of a fun game, and I'd reccomend it to anyone.
  6. I have a friend in the U.K. who is very pleased with the name of the new companion's name.
  7. Yeah, I have my own IRC client installed, and nearly always turned on, so I don;t really need to have a frame forcing me to be double connected.
  8. I have a suggestion for a new feature that would make life a little easier for all the players (possibly) In the planets display ( the one that shows you a list of all the planets you own), how hard would it be to add in an icon for whatever port is in the same sector?
  9. Make no mistake—Captain Kirk and his crew were cowboys and they treated the universe like the Wild West. There was always a lot of solemn talk about the Prime Directive and not interfering with native cultures, but that went right out the window the moment Kirk laid eyes on the first attractive female of whatever species they came across. Sure, they solved a lot of problems, but half the time they were solving problems they created. The crew of the original Enterprise wasn’t trying to unite the universe, they weren’t trying to right the universe’s many and sundry wrongs—they were looking for kicks. And alcohol played and essential role in that quest. It was a beautiful situation—you not only got to drink, you got to drink ales, wines and liquors the human race couldn’t even imagine. And they always seemed stronger than our silly earthling libations, every alien race bragged their booze would floor a human if he so much as looked in the bottle’s direction. Klingon Blood Wine, Romulan Ale, Saurian Brandy—they came on harder than a photon torpedo barrage and when you woke up, if you woke up, you’d be nursing a nebula-sized hangover the fastest warp drive in the universe couldn’t outrun. Humans were considered the lightweights of the universe, a bunch of Bartle-and-James swilling high school punks among whiskey-chugging dilithium-crystal miners. Full Article...
  10. Once again I feel the need to point out the posting rules to people. Also, I feel the need to point out that there are a LOT of forums out there that LOVE "outspoken" people. http://www.newtcity.com is one of them.
  11. wow, thats good timing! 8 days ago, I got my paypal account all set up, and donated some money to him, and today when I got up and checked my email, I got a note from pay pal saying that the cash I wired over finally finishd processing, and was added to his account. Thanks for all the help you've given me for my projects, having a kick ass server, and a bad assed forum, Nite.
  12. Yeah, Nite's server is one of the best that I've ever worked with, and well, I've been doing stuff with servers for almost a decade now. I like it becuase it's for the most part hassel free. All the tools that I need for any project I start are almost always on hand, or Nite is quick to get them in place. Thers been way too many times in the past where I needed a special PHP swich turned on/off, a certian module installed, or something popped up, and the server got anal about it, and refused to do it over some cryptic TOS interperatation. Nite's also a really decent guy, when it comes to helpin you out if you need a hand with coding something, or making sence of things :) The only bad thing is that Nite dosen't seem to check his PM's when you need a hand with something *hint hint check your PM's Nite*
  13. Okay... I went from a score of 8 million to just over ONE million now. Again, I havn't been destroyed, not a single planet has been attacked, and I don't have anywhere near enough shared planets where I could suspect my team mates robbing me, checked my credits, and I still have a rediculously high amount (plus the days interest). As far as I can see, from my logs, my planet summery, and my IGB account, absolutely nothing has changed for me, except that my score keeps plummeting for no aparent reason. So it proves just once again, a player's score has no relevence regarding anything.
  14. Theres something really strange going on with my score. It was at 11 million 3 days ago, and it's steadily going DOWN (at around 8 million now). I have 10 out of 600ish planets corporate, so I know that my team mates couldn't possibly be leeching my funds, and I havn't had a single planet attacked for a long long time, and from what I can tell my credits just keep going up. What the hell?
  15. Nicely said Mr. Fox. You'll do just fine with your new promotion, young master.
  16. I really dig it personally, used to collect the comics, and rent the videos from blockbuster, and make copies using 2 vcrs. The basic idea of the series is that if like 70% of the main charecters in the shiw get hit with cold water they change into something ele. Like a girl, a pig a duck, a cat, etc., and when they ge hit with hot water they change back into a human. The show's funny as hell, and has some decent action in it. I'm not sure, but I'm not sure if it's for everyone, as it's the basic premise of the show is really far fetched, but it's entertaining as hell.
  17. I got the full highlander TV series (6 seasons), and all 4 movies. Also added all 7 seasons of Ranma 1/, Johnny Nmonic, Waiting..., and The Aristocrats to my collection.
  18. Yeah, I'm not American either, so I guess it's really not for me. I'll play any game that is based in drinking beers and playing road hockey though.
  19. The real-life scientests, are all way too busy to be screwing around a book store. They're all probabally in laborotories, or doing field reserch, or even reading their professional journals / coleauges papers, rather then parusing the latest Stephen King or Tom Clancy best seller. I have a degree in nutritional science (not a REAL science, I'm the first one to admit), so I KINDA know what I'm taking about. On the other hand, I'm also Canadian, and a filthy commie so take that witha grain of salt.
  20. Son of a bitch. I am really wishing that I was the administrator of these forums still right now. Everybody please stay tuned for katrinas new threads "transexuals are just really really really flambouentelly gay" "Europeans are just closet americans" and "People that are Fathers / Mothers are child molestors" or some other dumb assed, irelevent, or retardedly misinformed, biggoted opinion, that will piss off, 2/3rd's to 100% of the moderation staff, and a hand full of users. And GhostShadow, the mods never hated you, we all felt really sorry for you :)
  21. yeah, speaking as a player with 600ish planets, I would really like to see the IGB stay as well, souly for the consolidation option. However, with the bank disabled, it would force players like me and atris to develop other tactics to protect our dynasties, and stock pile our credits. Sub-orbital attacks are great, and I'd also like to see them around again, earlier if possible. Again, if everyone had the SOFA fron the get-go, then it'd be a totally different game, seeing as by now all the major players know how to properly use the option. It'll make it easier for a faction to take out a planet, no matter how well defended. Xenobes, I don;t really care either way to be honest. If they make the game more fun, then yeah, if not then no. Since I have no idea exactelly what xenobes are, besides AI players, then all I can really say is lets try them out for a test, and let the people decide if the're worth keeping around.

    I think

It's probabally just me, but I swear that in the past few days I've read katrina complaining about this exact thing in a couple of other threads. I don't THINK it's deja vu, but it could be. Also, I could swear once again on reading in the not-so recent past, that katrina wasn't gona be posting here any more. Anyone else remember her 'goodbye' thread, or is that just me again? NiteShdw's site, NiteShdw's rules. If anyone dosen't like that, the Word Wide Web Consortium gives you 2 options. Option one: Suck a big one, or Option 2, go to a forum that has user rules that you can live with.
