I had a 2002 VW Passat before the Audi, and the two things I didn't like about was the lack of luxury features, and the annoying violet blue "purple" dash gauges at night. Those things were damn blurry. Now ALL VWs have them.

I used to have a fiat uno, but was to expensive to keep, would have cost over 400 quid to get through it's mot and it was over ten years old so had to scrap it.

I suppose i am being a bit girly but ever since i saw herbie goes bananas i have always wanted a VW beetle or bug as you would say in the usa. ;)

quid....now that is a term I haven't heard used in a really long time.

I got an old 325e that I use as a daily driver. It has a 2.5L also. Got it up to 127mph and that was past redline in the last gear...she was done accelerating. I bet your Z4 could freaking book significantly faster then what you got it too.

I love that car, Z4 is such a work of art, as is any BMW. I would love to have a 645 or a Z8. Your so lucky to have won the 4.

The book says the car is governed at 240km/hr (~150mph). I guess I would need a track to find that out. The car drives beautifully at high speed but with everone else doing 110-120km/hr (70-75 mph) I'm afraid someone will pull out in front of me. Nova Scotia needs an Autobaun B)

Winning the car was a strange event. Stranger when the BMW dealer wanted me to take it for a run around the block. I didn't know how to drive a standard :) People were very kind while I stalled at least 5 times within 500 feet or so. Major struggle getting the car home.

Here's a foolish photo a friend took:

My VW and Audi 2.7T are limited to 130, the S6 from the dash pic above are limited to 155, but of course with a chip it removes that and adds power. That pic shows it since 160 is higher than 155 hehe. The RS6 is capable of 200.

I've had the Passat up to 130, and let off the gas and it surged a little.. now that's power, and it only had a 1.8L 4 cyl turbo!

VW 1.8T 20valve I4= 170-180HP, maybe chip to 270

A6 2.7T 30valve V6= 250HP, can be chipped to over 400HP

A6 4.2 40valve V8= 300HP, can be chipped to maybe 320

S6 4.2 40valve V8= 340HP

RS6 4.2T 40valve V8= 450HP, chipped to 520 or 550

knew about the GTO, ive always called austraila, "america's duplicate...before america sucked"

I guess that included cars too.

as for this chip stuff I see. chip this chip that, regulate this and adjust the limiter on that, what happened to a good old carborator?

Carbs are less efficient, and also don't work with the DBW "drive by wire" electronic throttle system. If you want precise engine management and tuning, it's electronics or nothing. No more cold weather startup problems, vapor lock, stalling, or stuck throttles. I hate carb engines!

I bet you also didn't know, Mercedes has DBW braking systems. That's right, the brakes are controlled by computer, not by wire. The new Audi has an electronic parking brake as well.

A chip is just the way of circumventing the manufacturers HP restriction. If they would just let the end user tune it the way they wanted instead of locking you out, people wouldn't need to replace the chip. But then of course there's the problem with blown turbos and engines.

In the top ends, you can get more out of a carborator then you could out of fuel injection and for less money. No computer could do the work a human could do. If you want to go fast (like race) take the hour and set all your screws good for the weather.

Carborators are more reliable under stress, can compete against turbo's and nitro, unaided. Put a blower on your motor and nothing will keep up.

Brakes fail and so do computers. I don't want my brakes to fail (as they have done before) and find out that the chip that controls my ebrake does too. I like that hard wired system. Same with any other part of the car. If im moving fast, like I would want to in a expensive car, I don't trust some computer to do the same thing I can do with my hands and feet. Its my life, not the computers.

My Carborated Camaro vs. My Fuel Injected BMW vs. The Camaro Before I Changed It To Carborator.

Computers: Always broke, screwed up timing and wasted gas.

Carborator: Never something that a roll of duct tape couldnt fix while on the road. I miss cruise control. The gas still sucks, but at least it's consistent.

I feel slightly intimidated by all this "learned" tech talk...buuuuuut Methinks the Astin Martin DB7 kicks everything else in the bum and wizzes off laughing...I *will* own one someday...even if I have to live with my mum :p for a few decades!! mwhaha..

talking of cars I've actually seen/been in....a Bmw 320 I think it was....nippy, yet very quiet and so comfortable I almost fell asleep :) one thing though...the divider between front passenger and driver is a damned inconvenience....for various...*cough* reasons..... :p :p :p

Oh and erm the original Ford Escort...My grandfathers took me around Ireland- sturdy beast-except on hills! ;)

I think fighter pilots will bed to differ hehe. The new cars are using the same DBW system that the fighter jets with their FBW system have been relying on for years. If it works well enough on a jet going 1,700 mph it's good enough for a car at 155-180 mph. (Audi A8, D3) $75,000+ (Mercedes SL) $85,000+

My 2002 VW Passat had DBW for the gas pedal. It had a little lag sometimes when you first depress it, but that could be attributed to turbo lag and the transmission programming itself to your driving style. It was annoying at first, but I got adjusted to it.

This website explains a little abt the system, and mentions controls that Audi has had for years, such as auto climate control and sep settings for passengers, including a sun sensor. The A6 Allroad, RS6, A8 D3 also have the auto suspension, while the allroad lets you set height, all by computer.

That divide is for people who want to stay in their seat while they toss the car around. These are the sport seats in the Audi. They have larger side and cushion bolstering to keep you from sliding all over the place. It also gives them a place to put the navigation controls and pk brake lever, which I prefer over a pedal. Of course you also need that divide on cars with manual trans, like mine is.

And I have Daewoo Lanos 1.6 DOHC. Bought in November 1999 and 150 000 km made (alnost 100 000 miles). 0-100 km/h (0-60 mph) in about 10 seconds. Tough guy, had some accidents, racing drivers, and often used to drive through rough terrain and it still drives very good. I installed in it a gas power source, so it can drive both on gasoline and on LPG gas (propane-butane) which is cheaper here in Poland than gasoline.

BTW, here our gasoline is 95 to 99-octane, how it is in USA?

My Audi has around 123,000 miles. That's impressive for these cars, esp with 2 turbos, but it's also because I use the best oil for the engine, Mobil 1 0w40.

You race drivers with that thing?? haha, I can blow away pretty much everyone from a stoplight, except another faster chipped Audi, S6, S4, Porsche, or BMW M5. It gets old after a while though, and you grow out of it since there are rarely other German cars to race anyway. As you know by now, my opinion is that the Germans perfected the automobile, and I consider all other cars to be junk 13.gif

My AWD helps in the snow and rain, but only with the proper tires. Too bad making moonshine is illegal, since I believe it can be used as a cheap fuel. My engine requires 91 octane premium, but in MI we get 93. Anything less and you get worse mileage. The octane rating acronyms for Europe are different than the US. You use RON and the US uses MON or AKI, so 95 or 99 equals 87 and 91 for the US. A lot of people put 100 octane aircraft fuel in for races, it boosts timing and HP a little but costs $5 or more a gallon! People who chip their cars usually also need to use higher octane gas than what's available at the pump.

You race in your Daewoo???? And it does O-60 in 10seconds. I have trouble believing that you have ever won a race against anyone but perhaps a pinto.

Drive by wire car- $75,000, unneccessary attachment.

Fly By Wire Jet - $1,000,000+, necessary for reasons of mach travel.

it is not needed in a car. that is my feelings, I understand though that the whole idea is awesome, I just dont trust it more then myself.

Actually DBW is in a lot of cars under $40,000, like my former 2002 VW Passat for instance at $24,000. I think it's even in all VWs, and in ever Audi now. The only thing that it it connected to is the gas pedal though. It's supposed to make the car drive smoother and eliminate stuck linkages and throttles in winter.

Either way, the industry is adopting it and no one can stop them, just like ABS, disc brakes, and ESP (traction, skid control).

I read on Audiworld about a guy who blasts people driving geo metros in his A6 2.7T.. but that's just cruel, anyone can beat those cars.
