  1. I give you a 7 because family guy really cracks me up :D
  2. I voted for Picard, he was confident, skilled, witty, had a strong sense of morales. Plus he likes shakespeare ;) How could you leave Captain Archer from the poll!! you cant ask who is the best captain and not include one of the options! I also vote for deleting this thread and starting it again with ALL the options. Before there are too many posts.
  3. I agree, this really doesn't relate to his character. They're actors, they act. I love star trek but I really dont care about the actor's personal lives.
  4. hi res image of the face on mars I think the shapes on mars are coincidental. People always try and see objects in things. Like the virgin mary in a 10 year old cheese sandwich I dont think there is any conspiracy. But I dont see why they couldnt have sent one of the lander to the area just for the heck of it. It looks about as boring as the rest of the planet. giving the opportunity I'd definately go to mars, no doubt about it. I dont care that it is cold and lifeless. :cyclops: edit: what are those ventilation shafts you were talking about, got any pics? I've never heard of them.
  5. I'd run a scandisk with a thorough surface scan to check for any faults. It might also be a wise to backup important data just incase.
  6. well said neomaster. I don't think it is asking much.
  7. to quote Jesus "There's no pleasing some people"
  8. I must admit I dont know the ins and outs of the replicator abilities. But I say the borg because they are reasonably adaptable and learn from other technologies. So any borg anywhere captures/assimilates/studies a replicator the entire collective would benifit from the knowledge of the technology and incorporate it to make themselves better. Did the replicators learn from technology they captured? or did they just consume the resources...from what I saw they didnt seem to change much if at all. If they dont change the borg will adapt. RESISTANCE IS FUTILE! I realise the borg were made very easy to beat or the sake of a "good story" in some of the eps, but we all know what they are capable of.
  9. the special effects were the strength of the show in my opinion. I would have thought it better not to try and have new actors playing old characters, it accentuates the failings as we have certain expectations. If the characters were new it would be alot easier to accept it as it is.
  10. There sure are. some of the more interesting elements there are hydrogen, aluminium, magnesium, titanium, iron, oxygen, calcium, uranium. Oxygen is especially abundant making up around 50% of the moon, obviously this isnt the form of a gas but is bonded with other minerals (sillicone, aluminium, titanium, iron, magnesium, calcium, sodium) infact almost everything is bonded with oxygen. In the process of checking my facts I came across www.permanent.com. It goes through alot of issues involved with making a foothold in space, with details on mining methods and locations, orbiting and terrestrial bases. A really good idea mentioned is the use of the main external tank of the shuttle. It is currently discarded to burn up on reentry, but could just as easily be left in orbit and used for construction. The external tanks are bigger than anything the shuttle could ever bring up (edit: in its cargo bay). Just imagine how much has already gone to waste. I just noticed that India is sending an unmanned craft to the moon 2007 to map the location of minerals on the moon in great detail
  11. Perhaps the first step in these sorts of plans would be to send out some sort of unmanned robot equiptment to begin harvesting materials from the moon. This would avoid having to sending some things into orbit. Naturally electronics and specialised things would still need to be sent up. Even if they dont get to construction for a few decades it would be sensible to start aquiring the materials now so it is all ready to go when they decide to move ahead. Actually maybe it would be worthwhile having the shipyard on the moon so it is close to the resources. I would so want to be involved with that!! *cheesy grin*
  12. you would be hard pressed finding a cd to steal in the 1780s :P
  13. He'd have to get past 2 boxers and a poodle first ;) I think you have hit the nail on the head tetsuoshima. we are all in the same boat here, noone is in a position to be throwing stones. and just incase I havent used enough cliches: stealing is bad, m'kay
  14. you want proof, read it here. http://strategypage.com/ This is some of Americas best inteligence in my opion, no tuchy feeling crap. Just been wading through this topic and I checked out that site you listed. Found a page on it called A timeline of CIA attrocities Interesting stuff.
  15. as if you would be put in jail for stealing a cd :P
  16. Where should we be going with spacecraft design? Do you know of any groups that have ambitious plans for a new spacecraft? I think we should plan for the future and setup infrastructure for the construction and fueling of ships in orbit. This way ships wouldnt need to return to earth. Crew, supplies and cargo could be shipped into orbit as necessary on existing rockets like the delta 4 or atlas 5. We are going to do this eventually, might as well stop wasting money on projects that arent going to get us closer to our goals. NASA is going ahead with the construction of its crew exploration vehicles that are only 3 times larger than the apollo crafts, will carry 4 crew and can only be used 10 times. Seems like a step backwards, but at least they can leave Earth's orbit unlike the shuttles. They have designed them with methane thrusters which would be handy if they ever harvest mars' atmosphere for fuel, however I cant see a crew taking a trip to mars in something that tiny by itself. edit: topic edited to include space stations and bases, I'd be interested to hear any ideas along those lines, or of any projects being developed
  17. Do you have a sense of humour? and what is your style of humour. My humour is on the dry side, I like to slip things into conversation and sometimes people dont notice or take me seriously. That naturally leads to some interesting misunderstandings. But for the most part I hit the mark, so I have to vote for "I have my moments"

    bad luck

No point, the cat's dead!! I agree, sometimes it just needs a little help :cyclops:
  19. I agree with you completely theaveng. I'm all for the equal treatment of everybody. The way I see it, the point isnt to go through the motions of a marriage, that isnt what creates love in a relationship, and genuine love wont wither without marriage, although I do recognise this is important to alot of people. The key issue I think alot of people are fighting for is the recognition of a devoted/consumated (whatever you call it) couple and the benifits that go along. The same benifits that heterosexual married couples get, whether it is a tax break or the right to inheritance. I have heard many stories of devoted couples that have been together for 40+ years, and when one passed away the other wasnt recognised as the partner and had no say over how the other was buried etc or had any right of inheritance. equal treatment isnt too much to ask.
  20. I liked eccleston! :P Was really dissapointed to see him go....but I'm sure there is another thread on that topic somewhere.... mcant's suggestion sounds good. go the two doctors, double the fun ;)
  21. I think you are absolutely right maverick, Worf was a great character. I would have liked to have seen his courtship of troi to continue, does anyone know what happened with that? from what I remember it was left unresolved at the end of tng and then next I know he is on ds9 and troi is off with riker again. I liked the episode where data is getting worf to look after spot, and data is giving the instructions: "you have to feed him, and pet him and tell him he is a good kitty and....maybe feeding him will be sufficient" meanwhile worf is holding spot like a baby with a dirty diaper. edit: Oh and it was a shame how things turned out with Alexander when he came back in DS9.
  22. if you do the same search but click the normal search button instead. To the right of the results page is an explanation from google as to why that comes up first. It also explains why they are not going to fix it.
  23. I find it amusing that for about the first seven posts nobody knew who's birthday we were celebrating ;) so without knowing who is having a birthday today...HAPPY BIRTHDAY WOOHOOO *has a drink to your honour* actually it is my dad's birthday today *has another drink* so I'll be off to see the family to celebrate *has another drink*... soo yooose maysnot sees me........mukch...tunite...*hic* *passes out*
